Important Junior Show Information **Changes for the Juniors this year. Juniors may enter in the Open Show; however, they must enter a different bird than that entered in the Junior Show. Also, juniors must bring a separate bird, not entered in either Show, for Showmanship. This year we are holding a junior show separate from the open show. Juniors are welcome to enter birds in both shows if they wish but only the junior show will be counted toward junior awards. The Grand Champion of the junior show will then compete against the Grand Champion of the open show so we have a Super Grand Champion of the Show. Junior show rules will be the same as the open show with the following additions to be added: All birds in the junior show MUST be cooped in, prepped and cared for by the JUNIOR exhibitor only. No parents will be allowed in the junior show area. This prevents parents from entering birds in the child s name and the child not actually attending, and also prevents parents who might have more experience with showing and prepping from doing all the work for the child, giving them the advantage. We are encouraging more of a hands-on learning experience for the juniors of the fancy. We acknowledge that there are some very young competitors who are new at showing poultry. Therefore, we have assigned some adults who do not have children to assist the younger junior members in reading coop cards, and learning how to prep birds, etc. Also, some of the older junior exhibitors have agreed to assist the younger member who might need help. Junior Show Superintendents are Amber & Arron Fulenwider, and Andie Rupple to assist the younger exhibitors. 6
Example of the COOP card found on every cage: Exhibitor number will be at the top under the Club s name. Leg band number should match the band number on the bird in the cage. Sex of the bird will be circled by the show staff at the bottom of coop card. Type of bird is the Breed. Variety of the bird is the color. Colorado Poultry Association Exhibitor # Breed Placing Variety Band # Cockerel Pullet Cock Hen 7
Show Rules 1. Entries must be postmarked or emailed by April 28, 2014. 2. Specify Junior on the entry form if that bird is to be entered in the Junior Show; otherwise, all birds will be entered in the Open Show. 3. Juniors, please bring a separate bird to be used in the Showmanship Competition. 4. Juniors may enter birds in the Open Show Modern Show Down, but must enter a different bird than that entered in the junior show. 5. Juniors may enter birds in the Open Show, but must enter a different bird than that entered in the Junior Show. 6. All entries must have numbered leg bands. 7. Any bird showing evidence of infectious/contagious diseases, or parasite, will be removed from the show and isolated. Entry fees will not be reimbursed. 8. All exhibitors birds, both for the junior and open show, will be inspected by the CSU s vets prior to being coop in. 9. Each exhibitor will feed and water their entries, raffle, auction or sale birds. 10. No person other than Club officers of the show and judges will be allow to handle the birds without permission of the owner. 11. Colorado State Fairgrounds and the CPA will not be held responsible for any lost, stolen or injured birds. 12. Any bird entered in either the Open or Junior Show will not be reimbursed for entry fees if bird is not brought to the show. 13. Judging for both the Junior Show and Open Show will be done by the latest APA and ABA Standard of Perfection. 14. All cash awards will be distributed to the winners of each class regardless of the entries in the class. 15. Sale cage spaces are available for $3.00 per hole for Club members and $5.00 per hole for non-club members. Please send in your Club dues on your entry form. Please do not over crowd the birds in the sale cages or you will be asked to remove some and purchase another cage. 16. Please be sure that all birds are cooped in by 9:00 AM on the day of the show. Judging will start at 9:00 AM. 17. Pullet-female bird under 1 year old, Hen-female bird over 1 year old, Cockerel-male bird under 1 year old, and Cock-male bird over 1 year old. 8
