October Dinner and Learn Report Out Those attending the October Dinner and Learn watched the DVD by Mike Ellis on Finishing work and use of both positive and negative reinforcement. It described and explained how to use treats in training and when and how to reduce their use. Areas also covered in the DVD were the use of Random rewards to keep motivation up for your dog. Common misunderstandings of the difference between Mistakes and Disobedience were covered as well as our dogs having self rewarding behaviors and how to deal with those. For those who missed the Dinner and Learn for October I hope you will seriously consider joining the group for the November one. Besides the learning we enjoy fellowship and a meal. Sandy Hartfiel
Member s Notes and Quotes Laurel Stone My German Shepherd Dog, Jake von der Alte Baum "Jake", earned the first RATCHX in the history of the Barn Hunt July 27, 2014, at Waukesha, WI. Rat Champion Excellent requires that a dog earn 25 Master legs total, including the 5 earned in the RATM and the 10 earned in the RATCH. Even though this title can be repeated, at this time it's the highest title in Barn Hunt. Jake also earned a silver medal by taking 2nd place in the Grand National Championship at the Inaugural BHA Nationals at Purina Farms in St. Louis, MO in September. Jake compiled the second best record based on 4 consecutive Q's, with two Saturday runs on Open level courses and two Sunday runs, one senior and one master. His senior run was a personal best time finding 4 rats and moving through a 5 turn tunnel in 1 minute 17 seconds earning him a First Place in large dogs and High in Class ribbon! UKC/AKC Ch, U-RO1 Cima's All My Ducks In A Row GN, RN, BN, TD, NDD, CCA - aka Duckie Duckie earned her TD at the Northern Flyway GRC Tracking Test. She flew through her track, nose to the ground, crossing a path and through a tree line. I am very proud of my girl who only had 2 blind tracks (ones that others lay, not me), one at her certification and one at the test! Cindy Pischke
