As the Thanksgiving Holiday draws near, this is a good time to take a step back and think of the many things for which we should be appreciative. Giant Schnauzers and the many friends I have made through the GSCA are very close to the top of my list. Dog shows have taken us to many wonderful places: Tennessee, Missouri, Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Florida, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and next year Texas. We probably would have gotten to most of these places if we didn t have dogs but I can t be sure we would have had as much fun. And, I know we never would have made as many friends as we have through the GSCA. For this, I am thankful beyond words. This is also the time of the year that I like to finalize my decisions for annual giving. My parents taught me at a very young age the importance of giving and the rewards from charitable gifts. I don t make a lot of money so it is important to me that the causes I choose to support are reputable and can prove to me that my donations are properly and efficiently invested. There are many options available to those of us who love dogs. Nationally, the AKC Canine Health Foundation, the AKC Humane Fund, AKC Take the Lead, and the AKC
Giant Schnauzer Club of America Officers and Committees Giant Schnauzer Club of America Newsletter Volume E11 November 2011 Message From the President (continued) Museum of the Dog are a few of my favorites. Of course, The GSCA, our local animal shelter, and Giant Schnauzer Rescue will all receive an additional year-end gift along with what we give throughout the year. Our gifts are not large and yours doesn t have to be either. Give what you are comfortable with giving and know that the smallest gift is as precious as the largest. Give because it s the right thing to do. Don t worry about a tax deduction or some premium. In fact, if a charity sends you calendars, tee shirts or stamps and books for your donation, it s a pretty good sign that the charity is not investing as much as it could into the cause and is more interested in raising revenue than doing the good work you are expecting them to do. A thank you should be enough, but if the charity forgets and you don t get a thank you, so what? Their ability to write Thank-you notes was not why you gave them the money in the first place. Save a little for the GSCA. The Giant Schnauzer Club of America will be celebrating its 50 th year since incorporation in 2012 and the folks organizing the National Specialty Events in Dallas will be contacting everyone in the club to sponsor awards, trophies and events. Please be as generous as you can. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. Motion passed unanimously. (10052011 Accountant payment) In 2010 we had deficit of about $4000.00, which is about the amount lost on the Source Book. As of end of 2010 to end of September 2011 we are about $8000.00 short, which is from the monies paid to Rescue. The current National is currently at a loss with the added cost of being inside. The Bouvier club was charging for ringside seating. That and higher grooming space fees were discussed. An estimate of the medallion inventory was provided: 4-9, 11-6 and 2-4. Bernie reported he has met with the artist and has a sample of a composite medallion which would be less expensive than the bronze medallions. The medallion program had been established in the General Meeting in 2005 and would be discussed at the upcoming General Meeting. The bronze and composite medallion will be at the meeting for members to examine. A question was raised regarding rescue inquiries to the GSCA website. Kim said she would answer email rescue questions. ADJOURNMENT: Kim made motion to adjourn. Bernie seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned 9:43pm CDT.
