31ST National JULY 18-20 2014 SHOW SCHEDULE HOST: Ipswich Pigeon Specialist Club Venue: Ipswich Showgrounds

A warm welcome to exhibitors and visitors Ipswich City Council is proud to support the IpswICh pigeon specialist Club InC. in hosting the 73rd Annual pigeon show Sunday, 1 June 2014 11.00 am and 31st Australian national pigeon show Friday, 18 July to Sunday, 20 July 2014 11.00 am Ipswich Show Grounds, 81 Warwick Road, Ipswich For further information visit www.ipswich.qld.gov.au/about_ipswich/events/index.php or contact the Ipswich show grounds on (07) 3281 1577 proudly supported by

Organisers, Members, Guests and Exibitors, It is a great pleasure to welcome Australian National Pigeon Association to the Ipswich Region of south-east Queensland for the Australian National Pigeon Show proudly hosted by the fantastic Ipswich Pigeon Specialist Club Inc. at the Ipswich Show Grounds. I am proud to be both a member of the IPSC and its joint patron. I represent the Ipswich and Somerset Regions people in the Queensland Parliament which is such a great privilege and honour. The area is a mix of urban and rural areas where there is certainly plenty of room for building a pigeon loft or two and a good number of local agricultural shows which provide an opportunity to exhibit pigeons in the wider community. I am not the first pigeon fancier to serve in the Queensland Parliament. The late Douglas Sherrington also a keen pigeon fancier, served the people of Queensland from 1960-1974 as Member for Coopers Plains. Mr Sherington s granddaughter Carolyn now works as my Electorate Officer and although I didn t have the privilege to know him, it is great to have that connection to him. I grew up in the fancy under the influence of my late father Murray racing pigeons in the QRPF and in the North Ipswich Pigeon Club having good success and holding a number of honorary positions since my boyhood. From the earliest age pigeons got into my blood and there is no greater pleasure for me than to go along to a pigeon show to see the best that selective breeding, expertise and dedication can create. My own son Benjamin is showing signs of the fancy in his blood with a growing interest in fantails. These days my work as a Member of Parliament doesn t give me the time to devote to pigeon racing other than the odd release at community events, so my love of show pigeons provides a way that I can still be involved in the fancy. I am determined to see more people make a serious hobby in pigeon keeping and the opportunity for the region to host the 2014 National Show is an excellent way to show case everything it has to offer for my local people. I look forward to meeting many of my fellow enthusiasts during the show and hope your visit to our region is a pleasant one. While you are here, take some time to have a look around at what Ipswich and the Somerset has to offer and most of all enjoy yourself! I am sure the 2014 National Show will be a great success for the ANPA, the IPSC and the fancy with members, guests and the general public coming together to enjoy pigeons and everything they have to offer. Yours in the fancy, SEAN CHOAT MP Member for Ipswich West

WELCOME On behalf of the ANPA Committee, I congratulate Ipswich Pigeon Specialist Club for offering to host Australia s 2014 National Show. It has been an anxious wait for Queensland with earlier deferment due to restrictions with the movement of pigeons as a result of the illegal introduction of the PMV-1 virus into Australia in 2011. However, Secretary John Wiseman and President Phil Cleghorn have been very active in pursuing their bid for Ipswich to host the show and we can be assured it will be a great event. We are indebted to their team for the hard work to plan organize and run the show and hopefully put on some pleasant weather this is sunny Queensland! In particular I am looking forward to a large competitive entry now that we have a simple vaccination protocol in place to avoid the PMV-1 and because the last National Show in Ipswich was a success in 2008. Please make the Show Secretary s job no harder than it needs to be by putting your entries in by the due date. I wish to thank each and every Judge for making themselves available and we offer a very warm welcome to our international Judges to Australia. We will need plenty of Stewards to support our Judges so please let John Wiseman know you are available well in advance. Finally I wish to thank ANPA s major sponsor Lauckes Mills, and each and every other contributor for their sponsorship toward trophies and event costs. I wish each exhibitor the very best. The ANPA code of conduct will be strictly adhered to and enforced. Conduct violations include but are not limited to: Anyone engaged in chastising or rude questioning directed at the judge or making ownership of birds known. With severe infringements both will be applied. The entry form must have your signature to confirm acceptance. At no time after birds are penned can they be handled, or their pen accessed, by anyone other than their owners, or a show committee approved breed steward. The owner of any exhibit deemed sick or carrying excess vermin of any description will be instructed to remove the bird from the pavilion. ANPA ring sales for the numbers 51-100 will follow in similar parcels. QANTAS AIR FREIGHT TO AND FROM BRISBANE ANPA has confirmed that the 2013 arrangements with QANTAS are in place for 2014. Exhibitors wanting to take advantage of the QANTAS passenger rate for their birds should note the following information. ANPA members on production of the QANTAS arrangement letter, an ANPA Membership card and a valid QANTAS domestic airline ticket are able to receive two standard pigeon crates containing not more than 12 birds each at the QANTAS passenger rates - $60 from mainline ports and $70 for regional ports for crates up to 10kg. Crates 11-20kg are $80 from mainline ports. All livestock must be lodged at the QANTAS Freight terminal 90 minutes before the flight. Fanciers must book crates of pigeons both ways otherwise they won t be accepted. If you send more than two crates then current QANTAS Freight rates apply this will vary depending on the origin/destination and weight. For quotes contact QANTAS Freight Customer Service on 12 12 13. The QANTAS arrangement letter is at the back of this schedule. Please keep it or if you are printing this schedule from the ANPA website be sure to retain the page. IMPORTANT Ensure you book your crates both ways well before the minimum 7 day period referred to in the letter to avoid missing out, as this has happened. Exhibitors are advised to try to book as soon as their flight booking is confirmed. A 12 bird crate can be two six bird boxes strapped one on top of the other provided the rate dimensions do not exceed the maximums which are 70cm x 32cm x 52 cm. Note weight limits. In previous years some exhibitors have been able to book their crates in as baggage in some terminals, taking into account the baggage limit of 23kg per passenger. This can considerably reduce costs but each exhibitor has to decide if they are prepared to take the chance their crates will not be accepted as baggage through the passenger terminal. Delays may be a real concern. SALE BIRDS Large sale pens will be available at one end of the pavilion. Cost will be $10 per pen. Maximum of five birds per pen. Any pens found to be not complying with this ruling will be cleared out by the show committee. This will be strictly enforced due to animal welfare regulations. Please book your sale pens with your entries. The sales area will be strongly supervised. Please also note that all birds in the sales section must be vaccinated for Paramyxovirus the same as birds entered in the show section. KING CLUB OF AUSTRALIA The King Club of Australia are very proud to be sponsoring once again Mr Bill Harrison from Riverside California to judge the King section at this year s National Show in Ipswich, Queensland 18 20 July 2014. Bill is both a USA NPA Mater Breeder and Master Judge of Show Kings and has judged all district shows as well as National NPA shows within the USA. He has also travelled extensively and judged in Germany, France, Hungary and Australia with many of those being multiple judging assignments. He is regarded as one of the very best judges in the USA and the world for show kings and this is reflected in the international assignments and his 45 years of breeding kings. The old saying applies here, What Bill does not know about Kings is not worth knowing. He lives in Riverside LA, Southern California. Southern California has been the hot bed of kings for the last thirty years in the US and the strongest competition at both district and National level. Bill has judged here in Australia three times previous, the first timer 14 years ago but we welcome him back to Australia as enthusiastically now as we did the first time. King breeders and all fanciers for that matter will find Bill a very friendly guy, easy to talk to, lots of laughs and great knowledge on Kings. We welcome back Bill Harrison to this year s National show. Be sure to drop into the King section and say hi to this out going, fun loving American King judge.
