FULL BODY HARNESS Traditionally pet owners have used a towel under the abdomen as a sling. This has its disadvantages. Firstly it causes excessive strain on the back, especially the lumbosacral area, and secondly it compresses the abdominal organs - often so much so as to cause the pet to urinate. If your pet is suffering from a back condition this method of support is not recommended. Full body harnesses offering support through the pelvis and including the body offer a far more comfortable and less painful way of assisting your pet. They can be used as an aid to get your pet in and out of the car, up easily from a lying down position, support going over a slippery floor, or up and down the stairs. Handles on the front and back allow the owner to give a helping hand when needed. Harnesses may be used 24 hours a day and are extra padded for ultimate comfort. TOE LIFT (vets and rehab therapists only product) This product is to assist in rehabilitation cases where knuckling over is a problem. Ideally for use while doing therapy in the underwater treadmill to increase paw ground contact and therefore improve neural feedback. This product should not be used for extended periods of time. Ideal for use post operatively in disc prolapse, nerve damage, lumbo sacral disease and degenerative myelopathy. JOINT SUPPORTS Arthritic joints are unstable joints and can often be associated with lax ligaments. When weight bearing, the joint may be put under extreme pressure causing the pet to endure more pain. A brace to support the joint will help minimise pain, increase stability and assist in making ones pet more mobile. These supports can also be used in times of increased load to prevent injury, and for example, to support overloaded joints in an amputee. CARPAL AND TARSAL SUPPORT FEATURES Available in 5 sizes. This unique product is remouldable, allowing the therapist to do serial splinting in joint contractures and support unstable joints in ligament ruptures. The product must be fitted by a veterinary surgeon or a trained rehab therapist. THERMOMOULD JOINT SUPPORT THERMOMOULD TARSAL AND CARPAL SUPPORT FEATURES: Available in 5 sizes. Firm support. Ideal for ligament injuries, post tarsal arthrodesis, post operatively for protection, joint sprains/instability when little or no joint movement is required. Warm water heats and softens the support allowing it to be moulded to fit your pets leg. As the support cools it hardens and sets allowing a perfect fit. Padded and cushioned for ultimate comfort. THERMOMOULD RANGE (vets and rehab therapists only product) THERMO FLIPPER THERMO FLIPPER FEATURES Available in 5 sizes. Ideal for joint contractures, nerve damage, brachial plexus avulsions to prevent carpal joint contracture during the healing period, joint sprains, metacarpal fractures, or in conditions where one would like to immobilise the carpal joint. Warm water heats and softens the flipper allowing it to be moulded to best fit your pets leg. As it cools it hardens and sets. The product is remouldable allowing one to do serial splinting to reduce carpal contracture. I would recommend remoulding every 3-5 days together with passive range of motion of the joint 6 times daily. Padded and cushioned for ultimate comfort. THERMOMOULD INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO MOULD CARPAL AND TARSAL THERMOMOULD SUPPORTS STEP 1 Submerse the thermomould support in a bowl of boiling water. Wait until it becomes soft and pliable. Take it out of the water and dry excess water with a towel. STEP 2 Once the support is cool enough to the touch and you are sure it will not burn the dog, mould the support to the leg. Reattach the straps until the fit is perfect and snug. Set the angle of the joint and hold the support until it cools and hardens. The support will set as it cools. Tip: Make sure the point of the hock is positioned in the middle of the support. If you are not happy with the fit of the support - heat and remould. STEP 3 Once cool and hard, check to see if the support has been moulded symmetrically and that there are no hard bumps or lumps that may cause irritation. STEP 4 Please make sure the owner can fit the support correctly. Get them to check for areas of rubbing, hair loss and erythrema. This support is remouldable at any stage. PAGE 7
STICKY PAWZ This is an imported product repackaged by Holisticpet Slippery floors such as tiles and wooden floors can make it difficult for pets to move around the house with ease especially when they have weak limbs. Booties with rubber soles can help increase traction and allow them the confidence to walk on these slippery surfaces. This helps prevents other injuries such as joint sprains and splaying (doing the splits). It also helps build muscle as they are able to use their legs more effectively. I recommend using rubber socks in neurologically weak pets as the booties can be too heavy and cumbersome and may contribute to hind limb dragging. SIZING HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DOG S PAW For the best fit, measure from the bottom of the big heel pad to the tip of the longest toe nail. If the paw is in-between two sizes, select the larger size.
