What a fabulous Annual Awards Banquet last night! All the awards can be found in this issue of Golden Notes, but I wanted to highlight the Special Awards. The Breed VP award went to Tammy Ballew for her tremendous work on the raffles the past 2 Specialties. The Performance VP award was given to Dimity Mueller Dimity has been Terry right-hand person last year, providing invaluable assistance. The Field VP award was given to Diane Glassmeyer for her support and tremendous assistance as worker and trainer at our first Live Flyer Day. The President s Award is very special to me and I was proud to give it to Suzanne Fortner for her hard work throughout the year, her tremendous hospitality not only at NORCAL events, but heading up hospitality for the Mile-Hi Club at the National Specialty. I am honored to work with her and look forward to her continued assistance. Thank you Susan and Mike Bates for handling the banquet again and Edwina Ryska, Nancy Kelly and Laura Finco for all the hard work on the awards and slide show. Last year s events are done and we re already training and showing in the New Year. Let s get out there! Remember, this is YOUR club and we can t do it without your help. Please contact any Board member or event chair so YOU can make a difference. GOLDEN NOTES Editor s Bark Passing of the Baton! Page 2 Argus Rise of the Phoenix, CD, OA, OA Dogs are not our whole lives but they make our lives whole Roger Caras As mentioned in the President s Message, we just finished another incredible Awards Banquet and are now working towards those titles for the new year. The Awards Committee will be reviewing the Top Titles Awards in order to include some of the newer titles and to revamp the venues that have changed over the last year. We are in hopes that more members will consider nominating their dogs for these awards. A part of the Awards Banquet is the actual banquet. For the last few years, Susan and Mike Bates have coordinated this part of the event. However, it is time to pass the baton so if there is any member who would like to pick up this volunteer opportunity, please let any member of the NORCAL GRC Board know. Another leadership opportunity for members is the Beat the Heat Fun Match. This match doubles as our Responsible Dog Owner Day for the AKC and satisfies one of the requirements we, as a club must accomplish in order to hold our annual specialty. Terry Southard has coordinated this event and is ready for an apprentice that will take over after this year. If there is any club member who is willing to take on this event, please contact Terry. Finally, the 2012 NORCAL GRC Specialty is in need of a chairperson. Anybody? In order for NORCAL GRC to continue putting on events, it is important for club members to volunteer. Please consider what you can do for your club and volunteer! Golden Pine Black Russian RE, JH WC Passion Loved and missed by Nancy Kelly We would like to share our very sad news, that on Dec 19, we lost our sweet and very dear "Sammy" aka Ch BISS Golden Pine Cabo Sunrise, CD TDX. Sammy had his breakfast, his morning walk with Ron and Charlie, and he was a character to the end - ripping open a Duraflame log and romping with the paper. Sadly, he collapsed suddenly in the afternoon and while at the emergency clinic we had to "let him go peacefully." He was so dear to our hearts and was so mischievous til the end. He was special in so many ways - he made us laugh, he made us mad, he made us pull our hair out - but in the end he was our boy and so dear to our hearts. Sam The Man - we love you and miss you so much. Topbrass Sunshine and Shadow Sunny 3/29/96-12/17/10 Sunny crossed the Rainbow Bridge on December 17, 2010. She was a loving companion and a great pheasant hunter. We will miss her but she will be in our hearts forever. JoAnn and Paul Banayat Beamer and Jack Ron and Patty Simmons
