OCTOBER 2013 MY QUARTERLY UPDATE PRICELESS The Book Of Bosley THIS IS ME AT SIX MONTHS IN MY NEW BIG BOY JACKET - DO YOU LIKE MY HALLOWEEN COSTUME?)? The adventures of Bosley, a puppy in training! Well hello again Sepulveda Building Materials! Bosley here, doing just great! The last several months have been an amazing adventure! As a guide dog puppy in training, now that I ve had all of shots and I m safe to go out in public places, the last few months have been a whirlwind. I have visited all sorts of fun places like grocery stores, the Arboretum, Costco (my mom loves Costco!), and lots of other places too. I have even had some GDA puppy outings and got to spend the day at GDA (without mom OR dad!)! In this update, I m going to share with you what i ve been up to. Thanks for continuing to be such a great sponsor in your support of me becoming a be a GUIDE DOG! I am one lucky pup! POSING WITH BLUE BOY! HORSES AT THE STREET FAIR! SHOPPING AT COSTCO!

MY VISIT TO THE ARBORETUM TOP 10 FAVES! 1. GIVE LICKS! I was able to visit the most amazing place - it s called the Arboretum! 2. GET LOVE! 3. EAT BREAKFAST & DINNER! 4. LAY ON A HUMAN S LAP! 5. EXPLORE THE UNKNOWN! 6. PLAY WITH DOG FRIENDS! 7. PLAY WITH KITTIES! 8. PLAY FETCH! 9. BELLY RUBS! 10. GIVE LICKS (AGAIN)! At the end of August, my puppy parents took me to a really neat place in Arcadia called the Arboretum. Mom told dad it would be a great training experience because of all of the wonderful distractions. All I know is that there was all kinds of neat stuff to see -- the huge birds with long, colorful feathers called peacocks were just about everywhere! There were also ducks, geese and squirrels running around. I was very interested in watching the wildlife go by but I didn t chase anybody or anything! There were several lakes that had the stinky wet things swimming around in them and frogs - whatever they are! It was fun to look at them, but I didn t try to jump in any of the lakes, not even once! In addition to the wildlife, I got to meet really interesting people, smell awesome smells (there were so many different types of plants), and even get my picture taken with some cool looking art and statues. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed my day!

So many places to go and visit! The last few months have been all about exploring. I still get to go to work daily with mom and dad, which is great. However now I m also able to go to so many other places! As a puppy raising family, we are always wanting to help raise awareness as well as share opportunities for the public to get involved with GDA. Sometimes we participate in structured activities and other times, we are just doing our own thing, and people have a lot of questions for us! I get exposures to all kinds of stuff, sometimes it is just an opportunity to go up and sniff something so I know it is no big deal. COSTCO! AS A PUPPY RAISING FAMILY, WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP RAISE AWARENESS AND SHARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO GET INVOLVED WITH GDA. HERE I AM AT COSTCO POSTING FOR A PHOTO! THAT DAY, SEVERAL PEOPLE ASKED ABOUT HOW THEY COULD GET INVOLVED WITH GDA! IN THE BATHROOM??? YEP! I EVEN GO INTO THE BATHROOM WITH MY MOM AND DAD. YOU SEE, I NEED TO LEARN TO NOT DRINK OUT OF TOILETS AND ALSO, TO SIT CALMLY WHEN MY FUTURE PARTNER NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR BUSINESS. I AM ALWAYS CURIOUS TO SEE HOW THEY WILL BE DECORATED! AROUND TOWN! Always having a good time The best part of all of this is that I am getting to go visit so many different environments, yet I m always having a good time. My parents would never bring me to an environment that they feel would be too stressful or unsafe. My people tell me that I have a great disposition, which means I can go places and just be chill - I m not too terribly tempted by other dogs :) I rarely bark at people or even at unusual things, which makes it very easy for me to go places. THE DOCTOR! LAST MONTH, MOM HAD A DOCTOR S APPOINTMENT AND I WENT WITH HER. I WAS VERY CALM, STAYED IN A DOWN STAY (WELL, MOST OF THE TIME) BUT JUST SAT CALMLY UNTIL IT WAS TIME TO GO. HERE I AM AFTERWARDS - BEING VERY SILLY!!

PUPPY PLAY TIME! I LOVE PLAYING WITH MY PUPPY AND PEOPLE FRIENDS. US PUPPIES IN TRAINING HAVE AN IMPORTANT JOB TO DO. WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO BE WELL SOCIALIZED, WELL BEHAVED DOGS. PART OF THAT IS LEARNING WHEN IT IS OKAY TO PLAY, AND WHEN WHEN WE NEED TO BE ON TASK WITH OUR WORK. HERE I AM WITH SOME OF MY FRIENDS. YOU CAN ALSO SEE ME AT STORY-TIME AND WHEN I WAS FIRST LEARNING TO SWIM!

THE CLASSIC CAR SHOW! IN SEPTEMBER, MY PARENTS VISITED A CLASSIC CAR SHOW THAT WAS GOING ON IN MONROVIA. I WAS ABLE TO SEE LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF VEHICLES, ALL DIFFERENT COLORS AND SIZES. IT WAS A NEAT EVENT. I GOT TO PRACTICE MY SIT AND DOWN STAYS BECAUSE MOM WANTED TO TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES. EVERYBODY AT THE CAR SHOW KEPT SMILING AT ME, TELLING ME WHAT A GOOD BOY I WAS. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF ME TOO!

My big day at Petsmart s grand opening! Now, do you think that going to Petsmart is very exciting? If thought that it wasn t a fun place to go, you would be wrong... especially if you had the opportunity to go into a brand, new Petsmart! At the end of September, my mom got a call asking if she would like to go to the grand opening of the new Petsmart in Rosemead? She thought I would have a MY MOM TOLD ME TO SMILE AT THE CAMERA AND IGNORE THE SOFT TOYS... I GOT ONE RIGHT :) really fun time so she said sure! You see, Guide Dogs of America was getting some special recognition that day and they wanted to have a few of us adorable pups there to show our appreciation. We all got to stand really close together and take pictures, which I always enjoy doing. The city mayor came out and said some nice stuff and loved us up (which I always love) and then we got to go inside the BRAND NEW Petsmart. Us GDA pups were the first ones inside - no other pups had previously stepped paw inside and it smelled delicious! They had special toys and t-shirts just to thank people for attending. We also got to practice walking all around the Petsmart, behaving in a calm manner, even though there were SO MANY awesome things to see and sniff! I did a lot of practicing near the soft toys, not picking them up, because you see, I really like them and sometimes want to take them, even if they don t belong to me. Mom says I coming along beautifully! What a great day we had at Petsmart! OPENING DAY! ME AND MY FELLOW GDA PEEPS! ME & SHASTA <3 SAY CHEESE! LOOK WHAT I GOT!!!

WORKING, WORKING WORKING! LAST MONTH, MOM S WORK HAD A SPECIAL EVENT ALL ABOUT SAFETY. THERE WERE LOTS OF BOOTHS SET UP AND I GOT TO HELP WORK AT HER BOOTH. I GAVE OUT INFORMATION TO EMPLOYEES AND OF COURSE, ALL THOUGHT I WAS ADORABLE! THEY WERE GIVING OUT FLU SHOTS (CAN YOU SEE ME KEEPING MOM CALM WHEN SHE GOT HER SHOT?). I GOT TO VISIT THE MOBILE EMERGENCY CENTER WHERE IN CASE WE LOSE POWER, THE COMPUTERS WILL STILL WORK!

THE VILLAGE VENTURE! IN MID-OCTOBER, SEVERAL GDA PUPS AND ME WENT TO THE VILLAGE VENTURE IN CLAREMONT. WE RODE THE BUS THERE (GOOD FOR US TO PRACTICE) AND IT WAS A HUGE STREET FAIR WITH PEOPLE, BOOTHS, FOOD, AND OTHER DOGS TOO! IN ADDITION TO SEEING ALL KINDS OF COOL STUFF, WE WERE ABLE TO PRACTICE PAYING ATTENTION AMIDST ALL OF THE DISTRACTIONS. WE ALSO GOT TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT GDA AND THE WORK WE DO. A SUPER DAY WITH MY GDA PEEPS -- WE WERE POOPED AT THE END :)

HALLOWEEN SHENANIGANS! EVERY YEAR, AS A GDA PUPPY, I GET TO DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN! YOU SEE, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE GET USED TO BEING HANDLED BY OUR FAMILY TO PREPARE US FOR OUR VISUALLY IMPAIRED PARTNERS WHO WILL HANDLE US A LOT!! DRESSING US UP IS ONE WAY OF GETTING HANDLED. DO YOU LIKE MY COSTUMES AND MY FRIENDS COSTUMES? HOPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL HALLOWEEN LIKE I DID!

I think I m starting to get the hang of this guide dog thing... A BUSY BOY! PRACTICING STAIRS OUT & ABOUT Time has just been flying by. Over the last few months, we have been busy out and around town, working on our obedience, playing with friends and so much more. I have lost all of my baby teeth and now I am wearing my big boy jacket. At six months, I weigh 50.5 pounds and look nice and lean. I am starting to lose my baby face, but I am still just as sweet and lovable. You would think at my age, I could stay up super late -- but I still like to go to bed at a decent time (okay, I actually fall asleep around 7:30 every night and snore away until my parents go upstairs for bed). Many people say I snore but I swear it isn t me... but everybody is always smiling over my way. I also like to take lots of naps sitting really close to on my family. They love that too. Over the summer, it was really important that I stay cool. Whenever we would go on walks, my folks would alway touch their hand to the ground to ensure that it isn t too hot for my paws. We would try to park in shaded areas and avoid the black tops during the heat of the day. Sometimes we would have to make the trek, but we walked quickly and I wasn t bothered by it. Another way I stayed cool was by putting my feet in our pool -- we have I AM SUCH A LUCKY PUPPY. I GET TO VISIT SO MANY PLACES AND HAVE AN AWESOME SPONSOR! one at our house. When invited, I put my feet on the top step -- I don t like to go all the way in which is okay. However, I have become an expert swimmer which is important, just in case I fall in. I had a great summer and fall has been pretty awesome as well! I look forward to keeping you up to date on my progress!! LOSING BABY TEETH PUPPY-K GRADUATE
