September Issue 2006. Capricornia Budgerigar Society on line. To visit us via the web, simply type our address in to the address bar. www.geocities.com/capbuds A message from our President At the Annual General meeting Roy Gourley advised that due to work commitments he could no longer fulfill the duties of Editor of our Club Magazine. I would like to place on record on behalf of the members our thanks to Roy for the hard work he has put in over many years to bring us the magazine. Roy managed over the years to keep the magazine both topical and relevant to the budgerigar cause. Also not seeking re-election to any positions was Glen White. Over a number of years Glen was Catering Officer and Raffles Steward. I also extend to Glen on behalf of the members our thanks for his hard work in filling those positions. There was always a cold drink and something to eat and some banter with Whitey in the kitchen. Once again our sincere thanks to Roy and Glen for their hard work over the years and the club will miss your input in these areas. Brian Lewandowsky President. 1

Letter from the Editor. Welcome Members to my first issue at the helm of the CBS Magazine. I have very large shoes to fill, so I am hoping that you enjoy it as much as you have in the past. All going well, & with a little help from you out there. I will try & maintain an accurate forecast of upcoming events. I would like to call upon any Member of the Society to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard & share their views, experience & any general topic they wish. The topic will be up to you. Weather it be about breeding suggestions, your favorite worming product or seed mix. It s all good to me. So send them in! Our next show is on the 21 st of October at St Stephens Hall. Benching is at 9.45am & 10.00am Start. Any Age, Young Bird & Nest Feather classes. Judges will be Scott Eriksen & Glen White. Entries close the Wednesday night previous to the show at 9.00pm. On the weekend of the 19 th & 20 th of August Scott & I went up to Townsville for their Annual Auction. There was a wide variety of quality to be had. As well as the local members they had visitors from Cairns & Atherton, Cloncurry, Bowen & Rockhampton. Which made for an interesting day. We had some nice birds come home with us, but also missed out on a couple. John Bowgett was the Auctioneer & as usual ran the event efficiently. All the members made us feel really welcome, thank you to them. On a home note. I would like to mention that Club memberships will be due on or before the 31 st of December 2006, & a $5.00 discount is still available for early payment. Also, if you would like your Magazine sent to you via email. Please advise me ASAP so there won t be any mix ups for the next issue. Anyway that s it from me for this issue. Don t forget if you have any ideas please send them to me. Kind Regards to you all, Troy Williams 2

Presidents Report 2006. I again have the pleasure of presenting the Presidents report of the Capricornia Budgerigar Society for the 2006 year. It has been a busy and successful year for the society. This year we awarded Life Memberships to the Gourley, O Callaghan and Williamson families for their long and dedicated Service to the Society. They all thoroughly deserved this honor and we thank them all for the support and work they have done over the years for us. Unfortunately Roy and Alison Gourley and Gordon and Denise Williamson have not been experiencing the best of health in recent times. On behalf of the Society I extend to them our wish that they improve and I ask all members to keep them in their thoughts. Our Breeders, Annual and Young Bird shows and also the North/Central Zone Show held here in Rockhampton have all been well supported and were a great success. The Capricorn/Wide Bay Challenge was held in Gympie this year and I thank Kev, Scott and Tony for taking our team down to this show. Here I extend congratulations to Scott who has joined the ranks of Open Breeder. Thanks to all who have worked in setting up and working in the catering area at these events. Our Annual Auction was again extremely successful with over two hundred birds entered. We had many visitors from most parts of Queensland attend and at times bidding was brisk. There were many good quality birds on offer. Getting birds from some of the best breeders in Australia can only improve our birds and we may then be able to compete better at the Nationals. Thank you to Kev and Troy for the hard work in getting the birds entered and also preparing the catalogue. We have also been very busy with our fundraising activities this year. The Sausage Sizzles at Super Cheap Auto and at Bunnings have all been successful with good profits made. Thank you to all who have worked at these sizzles. A special thank you to Phil Burke who donates all the bread and bread rolls we use at our sizzles and shows because this helps to greatly improve our profits from these events. In November last year for Christmas and again on the Saturday night prior to our auction we had club dinners at the Cambridge Hotel. They were both very good nights and I would like to see both these nights become a part of our yearly calendar of events. I believe that these nights give us a chance to socialize and talk birds in ways that we can t do at meetings and shows. Just to get to talk with breeders like John McAllister and Clinton Ault as we did this year was great. In every organization there are a number of positions that are time consuming and downright hard work. Secretary, Treasurer, Show Secretary, Services Secretary and Editor are all positions that fall into this category. To Kev, Scott, Troy and Roy I thank you for your hard work and support. I also thank the other members of the Management Committee, Mick, Ian, Gordon and Glen for their hard work and support. I also thank Arthur and John Turnbull of CQ Independent Seeds for their support throughout the year. It is greatly appreciated. Finally I thank you for the opportunity to serve as President and I hope that everyone stands for re-election. B.Lewandowsky President. 04/08/06 3
