Online Book Club Talk About It! 1. You re packing your bag to cross the Atlantic on the Mayflower. You have to pack lightly because there s not much room. What would you pack that you simply could not live without? What would you be willing to leave behind? 2. Would you have the courage to leave everyone and everything you know behind to travel to a strange new world? What would you miss the most? 3. If you were a Pilgrim meeting one of the native people for the first time, what would you like to ask them? Since you have different languages, how would you communicate? 4. Do you think you would like to visit Plymouth after reading this book? What would you like to see first? Why? 5. Research the chores a Pilgrim child might be expected to do. If you were a Pilgrim child, what would your least favorite chore be? What would your favorite chore be? Why? 6. Pretend you are a Native American seeing a Pilgrim for the first time. How would you describe the Pilgrim to your friends and family? 7. If you were a Pilgrim traveling on the Mayflower, how would you entertain yourself during the long voyage? Remember, there were no electronics in those days! 8. Do you believe in the Pukwudgie legend? Why or why not?

Online Book Club Bring It To Life! 1. Draw a picture of what you think a Pukwudgie might look like. Next, add some other details, such as a Pukwudgie house. 2. Play a Wampanoag game! Take a small stick and tie a piece of string near one end. Next, find a flexible piece of vine (or wire), and form it into a circle about 2 inches in diameter. Tie the circle to the other end of the string that s tied to the stick. Use the stick to toss the circle in the air and catch it back on the stick. 3. Use paper grocery bags or brown butcher paper to make Wampanoag clothing. Cut a circle in the top and sides of a grocery bag. Decorate with Native American designs. Use scissors to make fringe around the bottom. Cut squares of paper from bags or butcher paper to make Wampanoag breech cloths. Decorate them with Native American designs, then glue or tape them over a string or belt. Wear it around your waist. 4. With help from an adult, research wetu construction and look at pictures. Use twigs and pieces of bark to make a small replica. 5. Have book club members choose a Plymouth landmark to research and share their findings with the group. Which landmark would you most like to visit and why?
