LAMBS, DRAFT EWES & RAMS 09.45 am Auctioneer: Steve Prouse - 07767 895366 634 LAMBS Smaller entry met a similar trade to last week. Our overall average of 180.8p/kg was well in front of other centres in the South West. The well fleshed lambs saw 31 pens over 185p/kg to a top of 193p/kg at 85.50 for a pen of 44.4 kilos from Mark Vickery of Killock Farm, Kilkhampton followed by two vendors at 190p/kg, Messrs Honey Bros of Higher Beer with 44.4 kilos at 84.50 and Ken and Mike Hill of Bideford with four pens of 44 kilos at WEIGHT TOP AVERAGE Per Head P/Kg TLW 83.80. 189p/kg was realised by Mark Dymond of Yarnscombe with four pens of 42 kilos at 79.50 and Graham and Malcom Piper of Herdwicke with 44.6 kilos at 84.50. Top per head on the day was 87.50 for a pen of 46.6 kilos from LJ & LE Luxton of Milton Dameral, followed by 87 from Mr D Lee of Adipit. 663 DRAFT EWES Per Head P/Kg TLW Lambs 32.1 39 65 171 58 160 39.1 45.5 85.50 193 78.50 181.3 45.6 52 87.50 188 85.40 179.1 52+ 86.20 158 86.20 158 Overall 87.50 193 82.10 180.8 Light Ewes 76 54.10 Heavy Ewes 100 89.50 Rams 91 - The dry weather is pushing out the ewes with over 660 ewes on offer again this week with, again, a lot of plain ewes on offer. The well fleshed ewes sold to a top of 100 sold by Wendy Jones of Scadghill, Bude. Several other pens around the 90 mark and just over. Mule ewes topped at 78.

273 CALVES & STIRKS Auctioneer: James Morrish 07814 010133 A fantastic entry of 273 saw a difficult trade being down between 40-80 for the top end calves but strangely the 2 nd quality calves were just a touch stronger than last week. Top call of the day was 540 given for the best Blonde d Aquitaine (4/5 month old) steer calves in from B G Nicholls of Parracombe on the edge of Exmoor. Topping the British Blues were J Ovens of Halwill at 455 with others at 432 from the same farm. Messrs Dilling of Highampton saw their best Limousins reach 412, 406 and 392 with John and Mark Elliott close up at 355. The baby calf trade was much easier with probably the pick of the day going to Lauren and Nick Shadrick of Great Lakes for young Herefords (4 weeks old) to 360 whilst best British Blue bulls in from Alan Pomeroy hit 300. Top of the baby Limousins reached 300 for Rachel Skinner with other Simmentals between 270 to 300. Baby heifers hit 300 with British Blues in from Messrs T & C Dauncey of St Just, Cornwall at 280. The Holstein Bull trade stayed very firm with strong stirks from A & P Nancekivell of Kilkhampton hitting 205. Best baby Black and Whites came in from David and Lucy Johns of Bodmin at 118 with plenty between 95 to 115. This week s Folk 2 Folk Champion winner was the best of an outstanding run in from Graham Nicholls of Parracombe. The Genus prize for the highest priced bull calf under 42 days was won by Messrs CG & B Dart, The Beeches, Cookbury with a British Blue bull calf sired by Moorsley DJ making 300. 100 STORE CATTLE 11 am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 Numbers tight this week with several vendors waiting for rain! However, the trade remained good with plenty of buyers around the ring. Top price was 1030 for four shapely 15 20 month old single suckled British Blue steers from Messrs Giddy of Saltash. Natives saw another strong trade with dairy x types 770-930 and more could have been sold. Several good shaped Limousin heifers sold well with a top call of 1050 for a 26 month old Limousin from Messrs Barkwell of Hatherleigh who sold others to 1010. Holstein steers saw the trade similar to previous weeks. 15 month old Holsteins from 435 and 20 month old types to 600. More cattle would have sold well today and vendors may be advised to sell more cattle sooner before this dry weather alters the trade for the worst. 97 DAIRY CATTLE - 11.00 am Auctioneer: Mark Bromell - 07966 430001 Mark Davis - 07773 371774 A good entry for the mid-month July sale saw a steadier trade. Despite a large crowd of Channel Island & Crossbred 1100 912 buyers present and a rising milk price this was Cows the first week where the effects of the In Calf Cows 640 445 continuous dry weather appeared to have an In Calf Heifers 1300 968 impact. However, first quality fresh milk still remained in demand. Top price of 1720 was achieved on two occasions. Firstly for a July calved Heifer yielding 36Kgs on behalf of Sam and Fran Bayley, Buckland Brewer and secondly for a superb 3 rd calver Wardada Saracen Dairymaid SP with exceptional butterfat and protein percentages and yielding an impressive 50Kgs on behalf of Messrs FE Adams & Son, Torrington. Sam and Fran Bayley also sold another fresh calved Heifer yielding 34Kgs for 1600. Mr GJ Richards of Helston sold a fresh calved Heifer Richwartha Flame Heather for 1580 and Messrs J Kempthorne & Sons of St Tudy had a good consignment of freshly calved Heifers with a very consistent trade with three selling at 1550 each and averaging 1488. DR & LJ Johns of Bodmin also sold a good consignment of cattle topping at 1700 for a second calver Tregoose Hartley Magpie 2 VG86 yielding 42Kgs, with their consignment averaging 1516. David Ley of Langtree sold his final consignment of Dairy Cattle to a solid trade and we wish him and the family all the best for the future and we thank him for his support over many years in the dairy ring. Crossbred Cows and Heifers saw a consistent trade with a Norwegian Red X Cow on behalf of P James of Boscastle realising 1100. A good looking consignment of out of calving pattern Friesian type cows from Carters Lodge Farms Ltd, West Sussex were most effected by the dry weather and lack of grass conditions. These still in milk cows were late Summer-Autumn 2017 calvers that either were not back in calf or had recently been served and PD d and outside of warranty due for Spring 2019. The consignment topped at 640. In Calf Heifers topped at 1300 for Richwartha Flame Tess a Heifer due to calf September to Gillette Caviar on behalf of Mr GJ Richards of Helston. A consignment of In Calf Heifers from NA & HM Colwill of Bude due Mid-August onwards to a Devon Bull saw a very solid trade topping at 1100. Ivor Barkwill of Tavistock also sold a consignment of In Calf Heifers topping at 1180 for a Heifer due to calf September to Hereford.
