National Model Aviation Day National Model Aviation Day is August 11 th Gary put on a show with his Escapade. It is the 30cc one made by Great Planes, with an 80 inch wing span. The engine is the DLE30cc, and a 19x8 Xoar prop. During several flights he delighted the crowd with smoke, and lots more than a glow smoke trail. Gary said he uses a smoke pump, specifically the Miracle smoke pump purchased from Red Wing RC. Al and his wife Monica ran a great Aviation Day event, and it was very well attended. The weather was great, although a bit warm. Many, but not all pilots who attended are in the mug shot below.
Hobby Haven donated some great prizes, and the happy winners are below. Club instructors buddy boxed a number of first time flyers. Rich Konokpa brought along his wife, his daughter, and daughter in law, and they all took at leaset one turn flying.
September 8 th Sailplane Funfly The flying was somewhat constrained due to some windy conditions. However a number of pilots took to the sky, and several sailplanes were drawn up in large areas of lift. Fortunately diving turns or inverted flight kept the aircraft within sight. A number of folks stopped by to visit and watch. We ll hope for a little better weather next year. Training Nights at West Field The board decided to continue training nights at West Field through September, weather permitting. Please help to promote our training nights. And it s great for night flying with the sun setting earlier.
Have you ever wanted to learn to fly Radio Controlled (RC) Aircraft? If so, come to our West Field (just west of Grimes) on Monday evenings We hold free public training at our West Field every Monday beginning Monday May 7 th 2018 through Monday September 24 th. If you are over 14 years old you are welcome to attend this program for up to three evenings. Club instructors and equipment will be available from 6pm until dark on days conducive for flying.
