Allison Park, PA 15101-3462 Buckley, WA 98321-8448 River King Newfoundland Club has been granted permission to hold this NCA Water Test by the Working Dog Committee of the Newfoundland Club of America in accordance with the Water Test Regulations approved in 1999 and updated March 2015.

Meet Our Judges Lanelle Warrick: When Lanelle was growing up, she worked at a large Newf kennel a few houses down from hers and always wanted a Newf of her own. In 1987 her dream became reality when she got her first Newf, Captain. He earned his VN - and she was hooked. She has since earned additional VNs and continues to enjoy working with her own and borrowed Newfs in conformation, obedience, rally, water and draft work. She lives in Buckley, Washington with her husband, 3 Newfs, and 2 beagles. While the Newfs stay busy in their working venues, the beagles have added agility and nosework to Lanelle s training list. In addition to the special relationship created while working with a dog, Lanelle is grateful for the friendships this hobby has brought into her life. She enjoys all aspects of working with dogs and wishes everyone the best of luck in the test! Bethany Karger: Bethany has belonged to Penn Ohio Newfoundland Club and the NCA since 1996 when her family acquired Admiral, their first Newfoundland. Since then, nine more Newfs have moved in, currently ranging from an eight month old to a ten year old. Bethany also is mother to 7 bulldogs, 2 Havanese and 4 cats. (Sometimes the Kargers feel like they live in Noah s Ark!) She and her husband, Bruce, live in Pittsburgh, PA. They have two children, Jane, 29, John, 33 and Sarah, their daughter-in-law. Their first grandchild, Giuliana, arrived in April 2014. She has been active in and on the board of Penn Ohio, past president and past Treasurer, Activities Chair and Water Test Chair for ten years. Currently, Bethany serves as Working Dog chair for PONC and the coordinator for the VN committee for the NCA. Through the NCA, she s fulfilled the requirements for mentor level water and draft test judging, including being approved to judge the WRDX test. Here and in Canada, Bethany and her dogs have succeeded in draft and water, in addition to the conformation and obedience rings. The Kargers have developed and conducted weekend water and draft seminars for the Central Ontario Newfoundland Club, where she is an approved water test judge, and also for the Penn Ohio Newfoundland Club. Bethany also works every weekend from June through August, conducting water training sessions for Penn Ohio. She is also an approved draft test judge for the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club, concentrating on the Chesapeake Potomac Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club. Other rewarding experiences are pet therapy visits made once or twice a week around the Pittsburgh area. Bethany and Bruce also have developed a Newfoundland program that s been presented to ages from toddlers at day care centers to senior citizen centers through which they ve raised funds for Newfoundland Rescue and donations for Pittsburgh animal shelters and food pantries. When presenting this program to schools, Bethany also provides a reading list that she has created for the children about the Newfoundland breed as well as interesting fiction. This list applies to all grade levels. Bethany is very grateful to the River King Newfoundland Club for the invitation to judge the 2015 Water Test. She wishes all the handlers and their dogs a great experience with smooth water and sunshine!

If the number of entries with the same date exceeds the number of available slots, a drawing will take place to fill the vacancies and determine the alternates. All entries received after the entry limit has been reached will be placed on an alternate list by order of those without titles, in order of postmark, followed by requalifiers in order of postmark. If absentees or withdrawals occur prior to the start of the test, the test secretary will substitute entries from the alternate list. When notifying exhibitors of their entry numbers, exhibitors on the alternate list will be notified of their position on the list. Please Note: In 1990, the Working Dog Committee approved the eligibility of dogs holding WRD titles to enter the junior division at any NCA approved water test. Entry is available on a space available basis so as not to exclude any untitled junior dog. WRD titled dogs that pass the junior division may not post enter into the senior division on that day. Dogs passing the WRD test may not post enter into the WRDX division. *Requalifications as Multiple Division Entries* Multiple Division requalifications will be allowed at NCA Water Tests. Dogs may be entered in more than one division on the same day but only if they have already qualified, at previous tests, in all of the divisions entered. Each entry must be sent on a separate entry form. If the entry for the test exceeds its limit and a lottery is necessary the dog may not get into each division entered. There will be no substitutions for dogs to change divisions if their entry is chosen for one division but not the other in a lottery. Judges must excuse any dog not in condition to finish the division entered and, if so, the dog will not be able to continue in any other division entered that day. Entry fees will not be refunded for dogs that are excused. Entrants are discouraged from pushing their dogs beyond their limits. Entrants are responsible for obtaining and being familiar with the current NCA Water Test Regulations. Regulations may be obtained from the WDC Publications Representative: Dwight Gorsuch, 6282 Burris Road, Rock Hall, MD 21661. These dogs are remarkably docile and obedient to their masters; they are very serviceable in all the fishing plantations, and are yolked in pairs and used to haul the winter fuel home. They are gentle, faithful, and good-natured, and ever a friend to man; at whose command they will leap into the water from the highest precipice, and in the coldest weather. - John McGregor, Historical and Descriptive Sketches of the Maritime Colonies of British America (1828)

Test Site Lake Lou Yaeger is a public lake located just east of Litchfield, Illinois. We have been given special permission again this year to use the volunteer fire department s beach area and airconditioned pavilion. It has a nice sand beach off the main body of the lake in a no wake zone. There are many shade trees at the site and places to sit in lawn chairs or on a blanket to watch. The water is mildly murky and can be cloudy to muddy after a rain. The shoreline slopes gradually with dogs swimming within twenty feet after entering the water.
