Sper Snakes Many people fear snakes, bt that is bease they know only the ommon myths abot this reptile. Few snakes are deadly. However, those speies that are poisonos have ertainly given snakes a bad reptation! Here are some fats abot the snake that will help yo to better nderstand this member of the animal kingdom. Snakes an srvive in many srrondings, exept for the polar regions of the world. Natre has given this reatre many gifts. The patterned skin of the snake helps it to hide from predators that wold attak and eat it. Many speies of snake have skin the dll olor of earth. The kinds that slither p trees may be bright green, like leaves. Snakes an go for weeks or even months between meals, and some snakes eat only one or twie a year. That means they do not need to hnt onstantly for food. The lnging and flikering tonge of the snake may look frightening as it vibrates. Bt the tonge is part of an important sense organ for the snake. There is a speial organ on the roof of its moth. The snake ses it to smell prey and to find a mate. Some snakes, like the python, have speial ells on top of the head that help them to loate warm-blooded animals. Most snakes feed on small mammals. Big snakes, like pythons, will attak mh larger prey. Alert and wathfl, the snake will often win what looks like impossible battles. The snake slithers on its belly bease it has no legs. In order to move, it tightens and relaxes the msles along the sides of its body. It an also se its tail to psh off against roks or other objets. Bease it an move so rapidly and qietly, the snake is a very effetive hnter. It is tre that some snakes are poisonos. They se their poison to stn their prey before eating it.
