Course About the Course Integrate acupuncture into your practice in 2018. Clinical evidence shows that acupuncture can be used alone or in conjunction with mainstream medicine to achieve better patient outcomes. Continue your professional development and join our experienced team of local lecturers and tutors, as well as international guest lecturers, in an evidence based and traditional approach to small animal and equine acupuncture. The Australian team has taught over 475 veterinarians from Australia and South A U S T R A L I A N I V A S Veterinary Acupuncture East Asia and unite to deliver the fourth on-line version of the IVAS course, tailored for practice competence. The 11 th Australian IVAS course is brought to you by the Australian College of Veterinary Acupuncture Ltd as Trustee for the ACVA Foundation (ACVA) in association with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) and the Australian Veterinary Acupuncture Group (AVAG) a Special Interest Group of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA). This structured program which is a combination of on-line lectures and hands-on practical workshops will allow you to rapidly integrate acupuncture into your veterinary practice. On completion of all course requirements you will receive the IVAS Certification of Veterinary Acupuncture. Previous IVAS graduates can take advantage of the new on-line lecture component by enrolling for the Lecture Review Course a marvellous way to refresh your knowledge. Term One T E R M O N E Introduction to Acupuncture 15 January 23 March, 2018 Term 1 introduces you to acupuncture, using a neurophysiological approach to explain the mechanisms of acupuncture, and teaches the basic concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The residential workshop is a mixture of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions which teach you acupuncture point location and how to treat simple clinical conditions. T E R M T W O Term Two Advanced and Clinical Acupuncture 1 16 April 22 June, 2018 Term 2 initially focuses on TCM pathology and diagnosis, including a selection of appropriate points. Lectures then concentrate on diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The residential workshop introduces the first equine practical sessions (point location and function) and the clinical application of acupuncture with real canine and equine cases. After Term 2 you will be able to confidently treat musculoskeletal conditions in the dog and horse e.g. lameness, intervertebral disc disease, osteoarthritis, paresis and paralysis. Term Three T E R M T H R E E Advanced and Clinical Acupuncture 2 16 July 21 September, 2018 Term 3 builds on the knowledge and skills gained in Terms 1 and 2 with the emphasis on internal medical syndromes and acupuncture for canine, equine, feline and bovine cases. The residential workshop focuses on clinical cases and reinforces clinical acupuncture skills in both canine and equine patients. An elective of bovine acupuncture is presented at this workshop. After Term 3, you will be able to confidently treat internal medical conditions and integrate acupuncture with Western medicine. Weekly Online Lectures: 1. Eyes, Ears, Scars and Tumours 2. Term Four T E R M F O U R Preparing for Certification 8 October 16 November, 2018 Integ This shorter, final term of online lectures is designed to complete your knowledge of acupuncture theory and prepare you for the IVAS Examinations in December, 2018. Requirements for achieving the IVAS Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture are: Attendance at all lectures and workshops Passing grades (70%) in each examination: written, canine practical, equine practical Completion of assignments Completion of ten case logs Completion of two peer-reviewed case reports Weekly Online Lectures: 1. Acceptance into the course is on a first come, first accepted basis. The numbers for the course are limited to a maximum of 50 students. Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Release of Liability:- Whilst every endeavour is made to provide a safe environment during the course, it is a condition for accepting the application that the course applicant acknowledges that live animals will be used in this course during the practical sessions, clinical demonstrations by course instructors, clinical workshops and practical examinations. The Applicant assumes any risks, waives any causes of action and claims of whatsoever nature and wheresoever situate and releases the Australian College of Veterinary Acupuncture Ltd (ACVA) and any independent contractors and facility providers used during the Australian IVAS Veterinary Acupuncture Course from any liability resulting from damages or injuries caused by any animal. This provision shall be binding to the fullest extent of the law and shall be pleaded as a complete bar to any claim for damages or injuries or loss incurred by the Applicant during the Course. If any portion of this provision is declared to be null and void the remainder shall remain in full force and effect. Authorisation to Use Materials Generated as part or as consequence of this Course The participant (student or otherwise) of the ACVA Course and/or other event agrees to allow the ACVA Ltd and its legal representatives to access and use all materials and ideas generated as part of or consequence of this course for legitimate promotion, learning and research activities with no sunset. This clause includes all written, audio, video, electronic, or other media that may be developed or used. This clause allows publication of these materials by any social or internet media including youtube, vimeo and other similar public media. Use of photographs for promotional purposes Photographs may be taken of students during the course e.g. group photos/videos or during workshops. Australian IVAS Veterinary Acupuncture Course 2018 Payment Policy Veterinarians who wish to secure their place in the 2018 ACVA course must pay a non-refundable $1,210 (including GST) deposit by October 31 st 2017. All fees MUST BE PAID IN FULL by December 1 st 2017. Accommodation Accommodation and travel (residential seminars and exam) are not included in the course fees and are your responsibility. However, student accommodation, with full board, is available at Marcus Oldham College for approximately cost of $125/day (tba). Your workshops will commence at 8am and continue until 6pm so we recommend staying at the College. There will be activities and speakers in the evenings and the spirit of fellowship and friendship and professional networking has been a feature of our previous courses. Cancellation Policy Please note our STRICT cancellation policy: Cancellation up to 8 weeks before commencement of the course (i.e. 30 th November 2017) will result in a refund of all fees paid minus the $1,210 non-refundable deposit. Cancellation within 8 weeks before commencement of the course will result in a refund of 50% of the course fees minus the non-refundable $1,210 deposit. No fees will be refunded if cancellation occurs after the commencement of the course. The Australian College of Veterinary Acupuncture Ltd reserves the right to alter the dates and the order of the lectures and residential seminars detailed in this booklet and to cancel the course if necessary, in which case all fees will be refunded or held over to the next course.
