JULY 15 th, 2016 HRD Cattle Course #1 GENERAL RULES: Time 25 minutes. In all elements, quiet efficient stock work is essential. All elements must be attempted prior to moving on. All gates may be open/closed or pre-set at the Handler s discretion to increase safety. Time will not end until all gates have been restored to their original/starting position. Ties are broken based on individual scores in the following order: Exercise 3 #2, Exercise 7 Pens, Time. STARTING SETUP: All gates must be returned to the starting positions. 5 cows in P5 waiting for the Set-Out, 5 cows in Side Pen A, and 3 groups of cows in the pens in Alley C/D 1. GATHER 15 pts.: Team will move to the location appropriate for their level. Exercise begins when dog is sent. Gather the cows, move them through #1, and move them clockwise around Handler s Post. Exercise ends when cows have moved behind Handler s Post. HRDI Dog may be positioned half way to cows, Handler may move to within 15 of stock. HRDII Dog will be positioned at the Handler s Post, Handler may move up half way to stock. HRDIII Team will be positioned at the Handler s Post. 2. HOLD 10 pts.: Exercise begins when cows have moved behind the Handler s Post. Near the Handler s Post, the dog should independently hold cows. Exercise ends when the Judge calls the Hold. 3. OBSTACLE #2 15 pts.: Exercise begins when the Judge calls the Hold. Team shall pen the cows in #2 as drawn on diagram. The dog shall hold the cows in the obstacle while the handler moves to the closed end of the Y. Handler shall then open the closed end of the Y and move the cows out of the Y gate. Exercise ends when cows have exited the Y via the gate and the gate is closed. 4. LEVEL I & II ONLY OBSTACLE #3-15 pts.: Exercise begins when the cows have exited #2 and the gate is closed. Team shall move cows to #3. Team shall move cows straight through the #3 exiting out the opposite end. Exercise ends when all the cows have exited the end of #3. 5. LEVEL III ONLY: OBSTACLE #3 & SORT - 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the cows exit #2. Team shall move the cows through #3. Utilizing the gap in the side of #3, the team shall sort 2 cows out of the gap while the other 3 cows exit out the opposite end of #3. Exercise ends when all the cows have exited #3. 6. RE-PEN/PASS THROUGH 10 pts.: Exercise begins when all the cows have exited #3 Team shall move cows to P1 and pen the cattle in P1/Alleyway. Once the cows are penned, the team shall enter P1 and move to P2 leaving the cows in P1. Exercise ends when the gate to P2 is closed. 7. PENS 15 pts.: Exercise begins when the gate to P2 is closed. Team will move the cows from Side Pen A through the narrow alley and into an empty pen in Alley C/D. Team will move cows from P1 and pen in Side Pen A. Team will return to Alley C/D and remove cows from a designated pen, move through P2, and into the Back Alley. Exercise ends when the gate between P2 and Back Alley is closed. 8. FETCH/DRIVE Level I/II 10 pts. Level III 15pts.: Exercise begins when the gate between P2 and Back Alley is closed. Fetch/drive cows towards P5 past the Drive Marker. Exercise ends when cows pass the Drive Marker. HRDI Handler s shall move cows to the Level II Handler s Line. Handler may move anywhere. HRDII Handler may move anywhere behind the Level II Handler s Line. Handler will move cows to the Drive Marker. HRDIII Handler may move anywhere behind the Level III Handler s Line. Handler will move cows to the Drive Marker.

GATHER 15 pts.: Enter through the designated 4 gate and move to the position appropriate for the team s level. Exercise begins when the dog is sent. Gather cows and move the cows from the set-out point and then clockwise around Handler s Post. Exercise ends when the cows are behind the Handler s Post. HRDI Dog may be positioned half way to cows, Handler may move to within 15 of stock. HRDII Dog will be positioned at the Handler s Post, Handler may move up half way to stock. HRDIII Team will be positioned at the Handler s Post. 2. FETCH/DRIVE 15 pts.: Exercise begins when the cows are behind the Handler s Post. Move cows to the gate between Field 2 and Field 3. Hold cows off gate and then move cows into Field 3. Fetch/Drive cows to the Drive Marker. Team will then move cows back into Field 2. PEN - 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the cows have cleared the last weave pole. Move the cows to the Round Pen and pen. Exercise ends when the cows are penned and the Round Pen gate is closed. 5. HRDIII ONLY: SORT 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the cows are penned and the Round Pen gate is closed. Sort 2 cows and release into holding pen leaving 3 cows in the Round Pen. Exercise ends when the team leaves the Round Pen and the gate is closed. 6. TAKE PEN/OBSTACLES #2 & #3 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the Round Pen gate is closed. Proceed to the Take Pen and remove cows. Move cows into Arena C, through #2 and #3 as drawn on the diagram, and then move cows into Field 2. Exercise ends when the cows enter Field 2. 7. STARTING SETUP: 5 loose sheep at Set-Out. 4 (level II) or 3 (Level I/II) sets of 5 sheep in pens by Set-Out, Additional sets of sheep in Holding Pens RTV or Golf Cart Parked by Large Pen. 1. GATHER HRDI/II: 10 pts. HRDIII: 15 pts.: Team should start in the position appropriate for their level. Exercise begins when dog is sent. Move sheep up the field to the Fetch Marker. Exercise ends when the sheep pass the Fetch Marker. HRDI Dog is left half way to the stock, Handler may move within 15 feet of sheep HRDII Dog is left at the Handler s Post, Handler may move halfway to stock. HRDIII Team begins at the Handler s Post. Once dog is sent the Handler will get on the RTV/Golf Cart and will direct the drive as they proceed to the Fetch Marker. While the handler is being driven to the Fetch Marker the dog will bring the sheep to the Fetch Marker. Handler should arrive at Fetch Marker and dismount the vehicle prior to the sheep. 2. OBSTACLE #1 15 pts.: Exercise begins when sheep pass the Fetch Marker. Dog and handler shall move sheep from the Fetch Marker to the Free Standing Pen. Pen sheep in the Free Standing Pen. Exercise ends when sheep are penned. 3. SHEEP PICK-UP 15 pts.: Exercise begins when all the sheep are penned in the Free Standing Pen. Team shall move to the location appropriate for their level. Sheep shall be picked up from the back field and moved clockwise around the Fetch Marker. Handler should note collar color. Exercise ends when sheep are behind the Fetch Marker. HRDI Dog is left halfway to the sheep, Handler may move within 15 feet of sheep HRDII Dog is left halfway to the sheep, Handler should stay within 15 feet of where the dog is set. HRDIII Dog is left at Fetch Marker, Handler should stay within 15 feet of where the dog is set. 4. FETCH/DRIVE HRDI/II: 15 pts. HRDIII: 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep pass behind the Fetch Marker. Fetch/Drive the sheep through #2 and to the Drive Marker. Exercise ends when the sheep pass the Driver Marker. HRDI Handler may move anywhere. HRDII Handler may move anywhere up to the Center Road. HRDIII Handler should remain at the Fetch Marker. 5. RIBBON PULL 10 pts.: Exercise begins when sheep pass the Driver Marker. All Handlers may move anywhere. Team shall move sheep to the cone for the Ribbon Pull. Dog should independently hold the sheep while the handler removes the ribbons from the marked sheep. Exercise ends when last ribbon has been removed. 6. OBSTACLE #3 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the last ribbon has been removed. Team shall move the sheep through #3 in a controlled manner. All handlers may move anywhere but should not walk through #3. Exercise ends when the sheep clear #3. 7. PENS 15 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep clear #3. All teams will move the sheep to the four pens. HRDI/II Pen sheep in empty Marked Pen. Remove gate marker, moving clockwise, place it on the next pen gate. Remove sheep from newly Marked Pen, closing the empty pen. HRDIII Remove sheep from the Marked Pen and combine with your sheep. Sort the sheep from the Ribbon Pull into the empty pen leaving the new sheep outside the pens. Sort must be accomplished correctly. Remove gate marker, moving clockwise, place it on the next pen gate. All teams will call the dog off the loose sheep and move to the designated 4 gate. Exercise ends when the Team arrives at 4 gate.

Level III 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep reach the Level III Handler s Post. The teams will Fetch/Drive the sheep clockwise around the Level II Handler s Post and continue to the end marker. Exercise ends when the sheep reach the end marker. HRDI/II Handler may move anywhere. HRDII Handler may move anywhere until the sheep reach the Level II Handler s Post. At that point the Handler will remain at the Level II Handler s Post until the sheep reach the end marker HRDIII Handler should remain at Level III Handler s Post. 4. OBSTACLE #2-10 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep pass behind the marker cone. The team shall move the sheep through #2, then move the sheep down the arena towards P3. Exercise ends when sheep pass #1. 5. SORT - 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep pass #1. Using any combination of P3 gates handler should sort 3 sheep into the Upper Back Alley leaving 3 sheep in Arena B. The handler should briefly close the gate between P3 and the Upper Back Alley. Then the remaining sheep in Arena B should be released into the Upper Back Alley. Exercise ends when the sort is complete and all sheep are in Upper Back Alley. HRDI Handler may sort any three sheep. HRDII/III Handler must sort sheep by color. 6. PENS - 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the sort is complete and all sheep are in the Upper Back Alley. The team should go to Alley A/B and remove 3 sheep from one pen on the right, and 3 sheep from matching pen on the left. Sheep should be moved through the narrow alley and penned in P3. Exercise ends when the dog, handler, and sheep are in P3 with the gate closed between P3 and the Narrow Alley. 7. FOOTBATH - 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the dog, handler, and sheep are in P3 with the gate closed between P3 and the Narrow Alley. The team shall move sheep through the Footbath, through P4, and into Stockyard. Exercise ends when the team and sheep are in the Stockyard with the gate between P4 and the Stockyard closed. 8. HOLD & GRAIN - 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the team and sheep are in the Stockyard with the gate between P4 and the Stockyard closed. Move sheep to the black Bunk Feeder near P1 and Alley. Open grain can and put a scoop of grain in the bunk feeder. Dog should hold sheep off while handler puts grain in feeder. Dog should continue to hold sheep off the bunk feeder until judge calls a Hold. The sheep need not stand still but should be held off the bunk feeder for the hold. Exercise ends when grain is in the bunk feeder and judge has called the hold.
