This show is dedicated to ALRC member the late Ken Haslett. KEN HASLETT 1932 2017 Ken was always a dog lover and had a German Shepherd when I first met him but he soon converted to Labs when we brought home an eight week old chocolate female named Toll in 1982. She was the inherently smartest of all our dogs and together we learned a lot. We had a fenced yard but had to go out into the driveway to the gate so he decided that would not do and cut a dog door in the back porch with a ramp, called The Toll Gate. The dogs would not have had 12 or 13 titles without Ken s nagging me to practice. He walked hundreds of miles laying practice tracks, and plotted tracks for the Kennebecasis Obedience Club, and actually put the TD on Toll but he preferred to stay in the background and let me handle the dogs in events. When I wrote for his obituary that he had spent hours throwing dead ducks the rest of the family made me eliminate dead but I guess it won t offend Lab lovers. Actually much of it was before the ALRC so would have been for other retriever clubs holding tests. As a member of the Saint John Fire Department Rescue Squad Ken was called to the Reversing Falls Lookout where they found a distraught couple from Ontario whose dog had explored too close to the edge and was stuck on a ledge below and there was complete agreement of the crew who would be lowered on the rope to retrieve the dog. With a little coaxing, he got enough trust to get it in his arms and back to its grateful owners. It was said about him that kids, old ladies and dogs all liked Ken. IN LOVING MEMORY.Rest in Peace
