It s been a busy few months with lots going on. We have had our Family Fun Day & Dog Show which was a great day, lovely weather and well supported by people plus their four legged canines. A fantastic amount of just over 8000 was raised. A big thank you to everyone who played their part from the volunteer helpers to the cake makers, to those who donated plants/bottles/straw and to the many companies who kindly sponsored the dog show. We can t run the day without you all. On the kennel rebuild, we have been granted planning permission and been discussing the bridge which is needed across the stream to enable the first build to happen. Fundraising is very much ongoing but thank you to the many that donated to the appeal on the Fun Day a staggering 395 was found in the large Snoopy box at the end of the day. Another thank you to Pudding the dog and his owners Rachel and Richard for supporting us on Fun Day. Well done to Becki, Jo, Fiona and Rachel for smashing their target of 500 on their 47 mile sponsored dog walk the total currently stands at 2195 and there is still time to donate at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/exmoor47milewalk. At the shelter we are currently full to brim with lovely cats so that s keeping everyone busy. Let s just say that if you are looking for a cat and visit soon you will be spoilt for choice! I will finish by saying that I hope to see lots of you at Big Walkies again later in the year. 2

Roxy s Ear Operation Beautiful Roxy is a 6 year old German Shepherd cross who came to us via the Cornwall RSPCA branch as a cruelty case. She was in a very bad way when she arrived at Cornwall she had barely had any fur due to an untreated skin condition which had become infected, she also had eye and ear infections that needed immediate treatment. Since her transfer to us, Roxy has continued to receive medical attention for her ongoing health issues. In November 2016, Roxy found a lovely new foster home with Kath. She has been an absolute star, ensuring that Roxy's treatment is paramount and always driving her to the shelter to see our vet. Consequently, Roxy's skin has massively improved and she now has a beautiful coat. However, she is still suffering from painful ear infections and we now have no choice but to give Roxy an operation to relieve her of this pain. Sadly, this will mean Roxy will now be deaf. She has already had a total ear canal ablation on her right ear which has healed well, but unfortunately she will now need the same operation on her left ear. Roxy has been through so much, and has remained so sweet and friendly despite the pain she has been in. However, this operation will cost in the region of 750. As you know, we are a selffunded branch of the RSPCA and have funded Roxy s medical treatment for almost 2 years. Would you be able to help us and donate towards Roxy s care? We have set up a Just Giving page or you can donate directly to the Shelter, ensuring your donation is marked Roxy s Appeal : www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/ rspcaexeter/roxysearoperation 4

Jenni Dyer We recently had some very sad news that one of our ex-shop managers has passed away. Jenni Dyer was a manager of the Paignton and Newton Abbot shops and had worked for the Branch for 12 years. Jenni was always very enthusiastic about her shops and her merchandising skills were second to none. She always had a stunning window display in place that was both interesting and on trend. The teams that Jenni built over the years always had respect for her and enthusiasm about what she wanted to achieve for Little Valley in raising funds for the Shelter. To say that Jenni had a wicked sense of humour would be an understatement! Always one step ahead in her thought process to keep everyone on her toes springs to mind. Jenni s sense of humour could get her into a difficult corner at times, but she could always talk her way out of it! A very sassy lady who always presented herself well and was very well spoken all of us who worked with her will miss her greatly. Thank you for some great laughs Jenni. Wildlife Visitors We often get unusual wildlife visiting the Shelter they get brought here when picked up by inspectors and some may be overnight guests until they can be moved to the wildlife facility in Taunton at RSPCA West Hatch. Here are a few of our more recent visitors. 5

Here is the link: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/exmoor47milewalk. Here are some great photos from their adventure well done girls! 13
