COMMERCIAL HEIFER SHOW HALLETTSVILLE JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW 2018 1. This project is not a part of the market division of the Hallettsville Junior Livestock show; therefore, an exhibitor CAN sell in this program as well as in the Junior Livestock Sale. 2. All entries in the Commercial Heifer Show and Sale will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show. 3. The Junior Commercial Heifers Show and Sale is an opportunity for Junior Exhibitors to show and sell commercial heifers. Crossbred heifers are desired but purebred heifers will be permitted to show provided they have not been shown anywhere previous to the Commercial Heifer Show. 4. Each exhibitor is eligible to show and sell only one pen of heifers, which will consist of two head. 5. Each exhibitor is eligible to validate and raise three heifers but only two will be entered as a pen.the remaining heifer and/or any ineligible heifers will not be considered as a part of the commercial heifer show and will be treated as any other consignment at the auction barn. (Exhibitor will be responsible to deliver extra heifer to sale barn) 6. Sale order will be determined by personnel at the Hallettsville Livestock Commission Company. 7. All heifers entered in this division must have been born in the fall of 2015 or spring of 2016. 8. All heifers entered in Commercial Heifer Show must be dehorned. 9. Sale Eligibility: Sale quality and sifting will be determined by the judges and/or the HJLS Board of Directors. Heifers need not be halter broken; however, no wild or unruly animals will be accepted. (If it is necessary to remove one unruly heifer from the pen, the unruly heifer would receive no points and will not be eligible to sell in the special commercial heifer sale. They can be sold with the extra heifers. 10. Ownership date is the official validation date. All heifers must be calfhood vaccinated against Brucellosis with the official veterinarian s clip tag in place at the time of tag in. All heifers validated must weigh a minimum of 600 lbs. on validation date. All heifers may be weighed on this date at the Hallettsville Livestock Commission Co. scales and will be assigned an official Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show validation tag. All heifers will be officially weighed and tagged before June 30, 2017.
(NO REPLACEMENT HEIFERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER VALIDATION) 11. All heifers entered for show must be palpated by a licensed Veterinarian no more than 30 days prior to the sale. The veterinarian will determine which trimesters the heifers are bred. 12. Any heifer that is not bred at time of palpation or has calved before December 1, 2017 will not be eligible to show, but remaining heifer will receive points. Exhibitors will be eligible to receive all other points with only a deduction of points for heifer. 13. Health papers must be provided on all cattle no less than 14 days and no more than 30 days prior to the show and must meet all requirements of the Texas Animal Health Commission before entering show grounds. Participants will be notified electronically if any testing will be required. 14. All heifers purchased for this show may be purchased from ranches located in Texas. 15. All heifer exhibitors will be required to turn in an official entry card and pay a validation fee of $5.00 per head and pay an entry fee of $125.00 per pen at time of validation. 16. 20. Premium money paid will be based on monies available a. Highest placing junior exhibitor award of $100.00 (Eighth grade or lower at time of show) b. Junior Rookie will be a first time exhibitor in the eighth grade or lower at time of show. c. Senior Rookie will be a first time exhibitor in high school at time of show. d. Premium money will be paid to the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion e. All other placing will be based on monies available. 21. The following costs are a recommended minimum. Expenses claimed must be supported by corresponding documents. d. Summary page. e. If you validate three animals, record expenses for all three even though you are only exhibiting two. f. Calculating Days-Use the day you purchase your heifers as the first day, and the Sunday you deliver your heifers to the show grounds as the ending day to calculate days on pasture and pen for your records. g. All expenses recorded in your record book should have supporting invoices that document your expenses. h. Breeding fees should be recorded in the summary expense pages. (P.8a and 8b.) i. Pictures of heifers and facilities may be included. j. Record book summary, feed and roughage calculations should be rounded to whole numbers. k. Heifer Birth Dates-Use month and year. I.
