Steers to 1395 Heifers to 1090 Plenty of demand once again for all types of stores with our second autumn show and sale of continental steers and heifers seeing several top drawer cattle on offer. Top price of the day came from a couple of tremendous South Devon steers (27m) from the Tooze family of Paignton which sold for 1395 apiece, others out of the same lorry ran to 1275 for a trio of grand Blue steers (26m). Well bred and fed Limousin cross steers (17m) of the very highest quality from Barry Quant of Newton Abbot rose to 1340 and 1280 for pens of three and scooped both first and second in the show steer classes. Yet more top quality stores from David & Wendy Holland, Dolton saw classy home bred Charolais steers (17m) sell to 1295 (x3) followed by a single Charolais heifer with the same comments to 1075 and four show first prize winning heifers rising to 1025. Limousin steers (19m) saw 1245 for Messrs Hawkins of Thorverton and 1215 for Keith and Hilary Harvey of Bovey Tracey (23m), the latter also selling a pair of shapely Blue bullocks (25m) for 1200 (as did David & Wendy Holland) (17m). A lovely run of twenty young South Devon steers (16m) from Dave & Karen Smith topped at 1165 (x2) with other later born sorts from the Mildon family of Cadbury to 1170 for two Limousin steers (15m). Holstein Friesian steers (27m) sold to 920 for a stand out pen of five from Tom & Sarah Fry of Ottery st Mary. In the absence of any of those big forward type heifers they did still top a an impressive 1090 for a smart Charolais (25m) from Tom Forward of Bolham with a pen of five decent Blue females (23m) to 1070 for Keith & Hilary Harvey. The best of a fine run of Blonde and Limousin cross cattle from the Haimes family of Brixton, Plymouth caught the eye with a single muscled Blonde heifer (15m) to 970, and second prize winning show heifers, a bunch of four Blondes (17m) to 940 apiece again from the Haimes family.
