KRUUSE I WSAVA 2017 BUSTER HC Urinary Catheter - Hydrophilic Coated The various advantages and benefits of using hydrophilic coated catheters are endless. The low friction and viscous surface effect of the catheter being the most obvious ones, and these catheters, because of their many benefits, have been used in human medicine for a long time. The protocol for human application is to activate the coating by using drinkable tap water, e.g. from the bathroom tap or similar. As standard, catheterization of a male dog can never be classed as a sterile procedure, using tap water for activating the coating is a convenient solution, as long as the tap water is classed as safe drinking water. Sterile water or a saline solution may also be used to activate the coating. The coating is activated after 30 seconds of contact with water.
