POULTRY Superintendent - Mary Lynn Prost *JUDGING: Thursday, 9:00 a.m. Jr. Class (Eggs, Showmanship, Poultry) Open Class to follow Junior Class Exhibitor must be present for Junior Class judging All Poultry and eggs must be brought in Monday, 5:00 8:00 p.m. or Tuesday, 8:00 a.m 12:00 noon Exhibitors must show their entry by bringing it to the judge when the division is called. All individually tested poultry must have leg band identification to match PT documentation. Duplicate documentation for pollorum-typhoid must be present at check-in. Any bird shoeing signs of specific disease or external parasites (mites, lice, etc..) upon check-in must be immediately removed from the exhibit area. All poultry must be on exhibit all days of fair. An exhibitor may enter no more than 20 birds. The same bird may not be entered in both junior and open divisions A fee of $.75 per animal must be included with entry. Champion ribbons given in divisions of 6 or more or at the discretion of the judge. Trophies for Best of Show and Reserve of Show are donated. Reference the APA Standard of Perfection when making entries Exhibitors are responsible for feeding, watering and cleaning cages of poultry daily. All junior class exhibitors are required to do at least (1) shift of barn sitting. Failure to follow any of the above rules may result in disqualification and/or loss of premiums. DIVISION J-Poultry Showmanship (Danish) Will be based on the following criteria: carrying the animal, handling, appearance of animal, appearance of show person, posing animal, and knowledge. Age as of January 1. Intermediate and Senior Division exhibitors are recommended to be prepared for more advanced questions and handling than the Beginner Class Class No. Premiums: $3 -- $2.50 -- $2.00 -- $1.50 1. Division L - Rate of Gain Contest Exhibitors must sign-up to receive checks at the county 4-H poultry project meeting in April, or contact the Superintendent before April 1st. Chicks will be delivered in May, and must be raised by the exhibitor until the fair. Birds must be clean, fully feathered and able to stand on both legs. The heaviest male and the heaviest female birds meeting the above qualifications will win. Each exhibitor may only make one entry. Class No. No Premium Awarded 1. Rate of Gain Division M - Poultry Costume Contest Poultry are to be dressed in costumes. Exhibitor is not required to dress in costume also, but may wear a costume if they choose to. Points will be awarded for creativity and originality. Class No. No Premium Awarded 1. Poultry costume contest Division H - Home Bred and Raised This class is for exhibitors who hatch their own chicks for the fair. Exhibitors must collect the eggs themselves from their own adult birds, not simply purchase hatching eggs form another breeder. There are not age restrictions on the birds entered (they can be hatched before January 1st). Each exhibitor will show their best home bred bird(s) following the conclusion of Best in Show judging to compete for Best Home-Bred and Raised. A separate form must be submitted by noon on Tuesday of check-in to the home-bred and raised coordinator in order to participate, contact the superintendent for more information. 54
