Did you know? There are Seven Stages of Puppy Development and size does matter for maturity rate!! Why would this be important to a trainer? Wouldn t you want to know what your breeder does to take the proper steps in the overall development of that prospective performance or HIT dog? From UC Davis http://ice.ucdavis.edu/ ~robyn/korina/bcideas/criticalperiodsinpuppydevelopment.html Neurological Stimulation of Puppies You cannot read or understand the stages of puppy development without also learning about Neurological Stimulation by Dr. Carmen Battaglia. While we focus on best training methods, philosophies and techniques, we cannot be a balanced trainer without understanding how the breeder impacts on our dogs. http://breedingbetterdogs.com/article/early-neurological-stimulation Nominating Committee The new slate of WSOTC Officers and Board members for 2017/2018 are as follows : President - Terrie Sato Vice President - Nancy Light Treasurer - Sue Cox Secretary - Janice Bergman Hearts and Flowers Gloria Newby reports that she sent a card for Jasmine Star. We could not hold this event without you. The sanctioned match will be on April 22nd at Canine College; please think about attending or helping with the event. Our Nominating Committee has been working hard to solicit candidates for the board. Remember you need a Discovery Pass (they were checking), you can get one on the Fish and wildlife website, at any sporting good/hunting stores or when you renew your driver s license. 8. New Business a. Sue Cox suggested that we create Standing Rule to specify that we refund the entire fee for bitches in season at our obedience/rally trials. However, since Baray does charge us for refunds after the closing date, the Board felt the current partial refund was okay, and, since this could change, it was not necessary to put in the Standing Rules, but leave decision to trial chair. b. Ingrida has requested that the Board consider reviving the WSOTC Fall trial. She has discussed this with Kathy Lang. She and Kathy would be co-chairs and would hold the trial over the 3 day Thanksgiving weekend with 3 Rally and 3 Obedience trials, again would be a low budget trial. Date- Friday through Sunday, November 24,25,26, 62017 Location - Family Dog in Kent. Crating in small room, two rings side by side in larger room.

Trial Secretary- possibly Theresa Calter Don Rennick has obedience equipment We have leftover ribbons from prior years Will need to select judges Board discussed and Amanda said there may be a conflict with the Willamette Toy Fancier Club on the same weekend. Motion was made to approve, pending verification from the AKC that there would be no conflict with the AKC rules regarding the 150 mile distance requirement for trials on the same day. Motion passed with 4 yays and one nay. UPDATE- The shows in Oregon have moved their dates so there is no conflict. c. Bookkeeper- Sue said would accept the Treasurer's position if we could hire a bookkeeper to handle the duties involving the computer tasks. Amanda has referred Kristle Marangon for the position. Amanda, Michelle and Sue all know her and Nancy has been talking to her about the specifics. Kristle has been the Treasurer of both the local and national Portuguese Water Dog Clubs. Nancy has talked to Jim Smith as well, since we would be paying her for her services and Jim has assured us that this is legal with the AKC, since she is not a Club member. Kristle charges $30 per hour. Sue would handle the check request forms and writing checks etc.; Kristle would keep the books (on Quick- Books),and other could members could also have access to the account information. A meeting would need to be set up with Ingrida, Sue, and Kristle to work out the details. Clearly close communication would be needed between Sue and Kristle. Motion was made for Nancy to contact Kristie Marangonto set up a contract (set up fees, transferring info, cost of and length of contract, etc.) to work as bookkeeper for WSOTC Board approved motion and Nancy will report back to Board. Brags & Fun With our Dogs! Anja did her first ever AKC Agility run, Novice Preferred jumping 20" vs 24". Drum roll...she placed 1st in her class and got High In Trial for all the Preferred runs and she was oldest qualifier at 7.7 years! We only lost 5pts and beat course time. Not bad considering the awful weather the 2 days before that down in Portland! Then 2 days later we qualified in both RE and RA for her 3rd RAE leg. We also participated in the Title Holders Parade and Veterans Parade!! Whoo-Hoo Shelley! Wheeee...Jury clears the triple jump! This is fun! Janine shares that at the NW Washington combined shows, Royce completed his first official AKC title. So, Royce s name is now a bit longer and we are looking ahead to more titles. Royce is now known as Guide Dogs Rolls Royce RN. Yay for Royce. His scores were 97, 97 and 100!! Yippee Janine! 11

Brags & Fun With our Dogs! My Bred By girl, Meridian Treasure of the Sea aka Pearl earned 5 points over Easter Weekend in Canada towards her Canadian Championship. At the Toy Dog Clubs Obedience trials in April my Papillon, Firerose Oh Whata B'Dazzler, earned a 199 in Open B under judge Betty Winthers. The next day he earned another 199 in Open B under judge Sue Cox. What a great little dog!! Awesome Sharon!! 12 Send me your photos. I can fill the pages with Papillons but I know our members have other breeds to brag about!

Brags & Fun With our Dogs! Danny says, aren t you proud of me? Lookee...Gracie can do 2 things at one time! Kathy Teufel reports that on April, 12 year-old Gracie earned her Novice and Intermediate Trick Dog titles from Do More with Your Dog! In May, almost eight year-old Danny earned his sixth RAE leg and his Novice Trick Dog title. Danny also earned his RATO (Barn Hunt Open) title in April! Gracie gives high fives! 13
