LABOR DAY FUN FACTS **Labor Day is Monday, September 3rd** Did you know Labor Day did not originate in the United States? In fact, it began in Canada. Labor Day was officially recognized as a holiday in Oregon. Though Labor Day is known for camping and BBQing; more hot dogs are consumed on the Fourth of July than any other holiday. Speaking of hot dogs Los Angeles is the #1 consumer of hot dogs in the U.S. Go figure, the state of healthy living consumes the most dogs. **Facts courtesy of Consumption Stats at Hot Dog.
1. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed, 400 were police officers and firefighters, in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in NYC, at the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C., and in a plane crash near Shanksville, PA. 2. 9/11 was not the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. A bombing in February of 1993 killed six people. 3. On any given workday, up to 50,000 employees worked in the WTC twin towers, and an additional 40,000 passed through the complex. 4. After the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, the rescue and recovery clean-up of the 1.8 million tons of wreckage from the WTC site took 9 months. DID YOU KNOW? 5. Though both the police and fire departments of New York City had their own emergency response procedures, the two departments did not have a coordinated response plan to a major incident. 6. In 2001, New York City fire evacuation procedures only required mandatory evacuations for floors immediately surrounding a fire. After a plane struck Building 1 of the WTC, Building 2 employees were initially told to stay in the building. 7. 18 people were rescued alive from the rubble of the World Trade Center site. Cases of post-traumatic stress are common among 9/11 survivors and rescue workers. Respiratory problems, like asthma and lung inflammation, also developed at abnormal rates for those in and around the World Trade Center during and after the attacks. DIY SHEET MUSIC CANDLES FOR NATIONAL PIANO MONTH In honor of National Piano Month, here s a fun recipe for DIY Sheet Music Candles. These are lovely even if you don t play the piano. Supplies Needed: A Hair Dryer, Card Stock, 8.5 x 11 Tissue Paper, Plain Candles of choice (light colors work best) Printer Clear scotch tape, hard copies of sheet music or printable sheet music from the internet To Make Them: Gather your card stock and tissue paper. You will need to cut the tissue paper to match the size of the card stock. After the tissue paper matches the card stock you will scotch tape the tissue paper to the card stock this step is most important so be sure the side that feeds into the printer is secured and doesn't have loose ends to jam your printer. Once your tissue paper is ready to go feed it into your printer and print. You now have music on your tissue paper. Wrap the tissue paper around your candle (cut the excess off, save and use for a smaller candle later). Once your tissue paper matches your candle scotch tape the ends so it stays perfectly in place. You do NOT want the tissue paper moving around during the heating process, you will end up with crooked music bars. Get your hair dryer going on high heat and slowly start at the top and work your way down the candle, you will start to see the tissue paper melt onto the candle making it a clear/see through finish. There you have it!

After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight 293, non-stop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and - AHHHHHH!" Silence followed, and after a few minutes the captain came back on the intercom and said: "Ladies and gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier; but, while I was talking, the flight attendant spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants! A passenger in coach shouted, "That's nothing. He should see the back of mine!" Say Hi to Pete Mann... Pete is our Sunoco Service Manager.
