343 STORE CATTLE & STIRKS 10AM Auctioneer: Simon Alford 07789 980203 Steers to 1260 Heifers to 1170 With numbers beginning to ease, demand looked too far outstrip supply on Friday with those middling, overwintering sorts looking particular dear. Top slot of the day went to David & Mary Stark of Denbury with a strong Limousin steer (25m) reaching a creditable 1260 whilst another tremendous Limousin steer (18m) from Chris Chudley of the neighboring parish of Torbryan was close behind at 1255 and an eye catching bunch of five with the same comments rocketed to 1175 apiece, again for Chris Chudley. Pens of well grown Angus store steers rose to 1235 (23m) and 1185 (21m) from LJ Glanville, Colyton and Perter Hendy up from Plymouth respectively with a single Simmental steer (30m) from John and Jill Redman, Chagford hitting 1170. South Devon steers (18m) fetched 1090 for a smart bunch of three from Steven and Shirley Bradley of Kingsbridge. Younger (20m) Limousin steers saw 1130 for a bunch of six shapely sorts from Steven Cockrem, Plympton also grand Stabiliser bullocks (20m) from Bryan & Martin Hingston of Marldon sold well at 1110 (x2). Yearling store steers looked a decent trade with dairy bred types selling to 870 for a Blue from SG Brimacombe & Sons of Crediton followed by a single Fleckviegh from BJ & CA Ellis, Musbury at 810. The heifer section was headed by DJ & AM Morris of Colyton with Blue and Angus (26m) to 1170 and 1175 whilst Limousin and South Devon females (25m) sold readily to 1130 (x3) for David & Mary Stark and further South Devons (28m) saw 1060 for Martin Vooght of Harberton. Charolais heifers (26m) reached 1085 for HJ Widdicombe & Sons of Totnes. Plenty of those 18m heifers in the mid 900 range, with the best, a terrific pair of Limousins running to 970 for Chris Chudley and trio of smart Blue s rising to 965 for Clive Timms and family of Inwardleigh. A large in calf Angus suckler cow from Norman Rew of Newton Abbot sold for 1110. 53 SUCKLED CALVES & STIRKS 11.30AM Auctioneer: Ian Caunter 07813 068935 A short entry of younstock met an exceptional trade and topped with South Devon steers (8m) from John Shears of Chagford at 720 twice, Trevor Adcock of Moretonhampstead attained 705 for named sire Angus steers (12m), whilst John Jordon & Sons, Gidleigh realised 700 for a pair of smashing Limousin steers (7m) with others to 630. DE & WM Headon of North Tawton hit 575 for Charolais heifers (10m), Andrew Barker of Dunsford topped at 570 for Limousin females (12m), whilst Blue heifers from the same home and of a similar age attained 565. 115 CALVES 10.15AM Auctioneer: Mark Davis 07773 371774 CALVES - 10.15 am CALVES Bulls Heifers A similar entry sold to another excellent trade! British Blue bulls topped Devon at 350 for Paul Hendy of Kingsbridge with others 2 92 91 to 315 for Messrs SG Brimacombe & Sons of Crediton and 300 for Messrs RC Dymond & Sons of Colyton. Limousin bulls to 275 for Messrs JW Reddaway & Sons of Okehampton. Heifers topped at 275 for a Charolais from Ian Pincombe of Crediton with Limousin heifers to 255 for Messrs RC Dymond & Sons. Aberdeen Angus heifers to 245 for Andrew Parker of Totnes. Friesians to 98 For Messrs CD & EM Gooding of Ottery St Mary with others to 90 (x2) for Messrs RH & MJ Hurford of Axminster and Messrs F & H Farms of Tiverton.

102 DAIRY 11.30AM Auctioneers: Mark Davis 07773 371774 & Mark Bromell Another super entry of Dairy sold to a strong trade. Top of the day was 1800 twice, first to do it was a smart second calver Chettiscombe Bolivia Phylis 56 by Magor Bolivia Allen from Ian, Caroline & Jess Tapp of Tiverton who also sold a heifer at 1650. Heifers topped at 1800 for Oxenacres Altastalwart Paula by Rosylane-Llc Altastalwart from Martin Webber of Drewsteignton who also sold another heifer at 1750. Crossbred cows sold to a strong trade topping at 1680 for a Norwegian Red x second calver from Dave Spry of Yelverton who sold a fifth calving Swedish Red Cow at 1600 and a fourth calver at 1350. Ayrshire Heifers sold to 1400 for Bonner Farms of Umberleigh who also sold two heifer calves to 220. The dispersal of Crossbred Cows for Mark & Bridget Thomas of Newquay met a strong trade topping at 1350gns for a fresh Ayrshire x heifer. Others sold to 1020gns for a Guernsey x second calver and 1000gns twice for Ayrshire & Guernsey x heifers. Normandy x In Calf Heifers which were 4-5 months In Calf sold to 880gns and the 2014 born Smart Welsh Black Bull sold well at 1500gns. Dry Cows sold to 900 for David Mortimer of Sowton and Joe Delves of West Sussex who also sold Spring Calving Crossbred Heifers to 850 (x2). Other Spring Calving heifers to 900 for Messrs AJ Buckpitt of South Brent & 860 for Woodwards Farm LTD of West Sussex. 1834 SHEEP 11AM Auctioneer: Russell Steer 07788 318701 3 ORPHAN LAMBS A trio of young lambs from Ken & Brenda Cole of Loxbeare sold at 10 apiece. 1590 STORE LAMBS Fewer store lambs this week were a slightly easier trade for all but the very best, these sold to 78.50 & 74 for large framed Suffolk crosses from David & Lynda Pellow of Sourton, to 76.50, 76, 75.50 & 73 for forward Charollais crosses from Lyn Loosemore of Yeoford and to 73.50 & 73 for similar from Lovaton Farm Partnership of South Tawton. Suffolk cross keeping lambs from Brian Palfrey of Stoodleigh reached 73 & 69 while F Heal of High Bickington sold similar at 72 & 69 and more Suffolk sired lambs sold to 71.50 for both Ed Ellis of Dunchideock and Phillip Squire of Holbeton. More Charollais sired sorts at 72.50 for D & K Mabin of Buckfastleigh, to 70.50 for AG Evans of Wiveliscombe and 69.50 for Graham Heal of High Bickington. Medium lambs were slightly easier on the week, trading from 57 to 68 depending on quality whilst small lambs were pretty much unchanged, with the vast majority over 48. Overall average is half a pound less at 59.75. 100 GRAZING & BREEDING EWES Grazers sold to 59.50 & 48.50 for the Philp family of Ilsington and to 45 for Lovaton Farm Partnership whilst a run of hill bred breeders sold to 40 & 34 for Rob & Sue Greep of Cornwood. 141 LIVES (56 EWES & 85 LAMBS) A large entry for the time of year of 56 Ewes with 85 lambs at foot were of better quality and a stronger trade to match! Two pens of FM doubles reached 200 for Paul & Matt Gammin of Newton Abbot, being a trio of pure Dorset s and a lot of nine Dorset x Mules, all of which sold with smart Suffolk sired lambs. The Gammin s also had pure Dorset singles at 162 as well as Dorset x Mules at 154 & 135. Alan Bickley of Puddington started his annual consignment with Dorset doubles at 190, 182 & 178 as well as milk one side singles at 145 and John Vooght of Dunsford sold FM Dorset doubles at 176 and singles with the same comments at 136.
