P A G E 2 Plants Did you know that plants are amazing organisms? An organism is a living thing. Plants need water, minerals, sun light, and fresh air. The parts of a plant are the roots, stem, and leaves. Each part of the plant has an important job. The roots are the part of the plant that grows underground. The roots help hold the plant in place so it doesn t blow away. Another thing that the roots do is get minerals and water from the soil. They deliver the water and minerals to the stem. Did you know that the stem helps the plant to stay upright? The stem also gives the nutrients to the leaves, and the leaves are connected to the leaves. The leaves create all of the food with the energy they get. They also use and take in carbon dioxide and sunlight to make the food. It mixes everything that it gets to make food for the plant. The parts of the plant are all very important. Without all of the parts the plant wouldn t survive. Animal Life Cycle All animals live different lengths of time, but they all have something in common. They all go through a lifecycle. The stages are birth, growth plus change, reproduction, and death. Birth is when an animal is born. When an animal grows and changes its body changes. Reproduction is when a new animal is born. Death is when a animal dies. These are the stages in an animal life cycle. M A X T I M E S

Penguins are cool animals because they can survive in such hard environment. They all live in the southern hemisphere, but most of them live close to Antarctica. There are 17 species of penguins. Most of them can t build nests because there are no leaves, dirt, or any materiel for nesting. The largest penguin is the Emperor penguin, and the smallest is the Blue Penguin. All penguins live near the sea. Each penguin has its own characteristic. The Emperor penguin is found in Antarctica. They are special because they are the largest penguin. The Emperor Penguin weighs up to 90 pounds and is nearly 4 feet tall. These penguins have an orange glow on their cheeks. The dad protects the egg for 2 Penguins months while the mother penguin searches food for the chick. The king penguin is found on the Antarctic islands. It is one of the largest penguins at 3 feet and 35 pounds. These penguins have an orange glow around their ears. The king penguin usually eat fish, but sometimes eat squid or crust stations. Gentoo Penguins are tall but light. They are 3 feet and 13 pounds. They are found all over the Antarctic islands, but mostly on the Falklands. They have a white stripe on there head. Gentoo penguins make nests on inland grasslands. Adelie Penguins live in Antarctica. They are the smallest penguin in Antarctica. These Penguins are 9 pounds and 2 feet tall. They have an all black head. Their diet is mostly fish. Chinstrap penguins live on large icebergs, and open ocean Antarctic regions. They are 2 feet tall and weigh 10 pounds. Their characteristic is a black band under their chin. There are about 14 million of them! Galapagos Penguins live on the Galapagos Islands. They are 2 feet tall and weigh 10 pounds. They are the penguin that lives closest to the equator. They have a black and white logo around their eyes. There belly has small black spots on it. All penguins rely on Antarctica and other habitats to survive. They also rely on marine life for food and shelter. Above is information about just a few of them. There are 11 other species of penguins to learn about. P A G E 3

P A G E 4 How do a Soccer Rainbow Messi doing a rainbow. Have you ever seen a professional soccer player do a move? Some of them are the Maradona, Rainbow L, and V. There are many more I am going to teach you how to the Rainbow. You will just need a soccer ball with air. Here are the steps to do the Rainbow. Rainbows can be hard without directions. I am going to tell you the steps to do a Rainbow. First make sure the ball is not moving because it s much harder. Next make sure your strong foot is sideways and behind the ball, and your weak foot is right in front of the ball. This is the original way of doing the Rainbow. With your weak foot flick the ball into the air and when it s coming down flick it up again. This is how you get it over your head, or close to over your head. Make sure you don t run forward. The reason is it will hit you and not go over your head. I hope you try to do it. You can do this to get a goal but it s very hard or get it over an over a player. Other players do it like Messi, Ronald, and Nymar. Rocks and Minerals Rocks and minerals A mineral is a substance found in nature that is not plant or animal. Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. The different kinds of rocks are Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic Rocks. Igneous Rocks are Fire Made. They form when melted rock cools and hardens. Igneous Rocks cool slowly when inside earth, but they cool quickly on the surface. Volcanoes erupt from these types of rocks. Some examples are Granite and Basalt. Sedimentary Rocks form when sand, mud, and pebbles at the bottom of rivers, lakes, and oceans pile up. They press together and cement into solid rocks. Some examples are Sandstone, Shale, and Siltstones. Metamorphic means change in form. They change through squeezing and heating. Some examples are Marble and Gneiss. Now I hope you know more about rocks. M A X T I M E S

V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 1 P A G E 5 Cats Rule Cats are awesome pets. I think this because cats can stay alone for a very long time. Also cats don t make a lot of noise like dogs do. The last reason is cats don t need a lot of exercise. I wish I had a pet. Cats can stay alone for a long time. One reason is you can leave them at home on vacation. According to the article most cats can do almost everything by themselves. Cats don t need to be outside to go to the bathroom. The last reason is they don t make a mess, or mess anything up. At my cousins house the cats never need to go outside. Cats don t make a lot of noise. Cats won t bother your Neighbors. My cousins cat has never made noise. The passage states that cats don t annoy you because they sleep. Cats don t need a lot of exercise. They need a lot less exercise than a dog. Cats can just play with a ball in your living room instead of it getting walked in the rain or snow. I will almost always choose cats over dogs. The reasons are they stay alone they don t make a lot of noise and they don t need a lot of exercise. I would love to have a cat. Cats are the best!! Fly Eagle Fly The story Fly- Eagle, Fly is an African Folk Tale. The man found an eagle. He brought the eagle back to the village, and treated it like a chicken. The friend kept trying to make the eagle fly. The friend tried to prove the farmer wrong about eagle/chicken. The friend proved that the eagle was not a chicken. The eagle started to fly at the end.

P A G E 6 Smart Dog Cute dog Smart Dog is a Humorous Fiction story. In the beginning Charlie tries to train his dog Toby. Toby doesn t obey Commands. Toby s sister made a bet that Toby couldn t do a trick. Next Nina comes over to help train the dog. Then Toby runs away trying to chase a squirrel. At the end Toby comes home sniffing out his footraces. Then Charlie s sister s bet is accomplished. Save our water Why should we conserve our water? What can you do to help? Conserve means to use less. All living things need water to survive. The article and video Adventures of Eco Rilla and saving our water are about the importance of saving our water. To help conserve we can take a shower instead of a bath, collect water in a barrel, and turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth. One way to save water is taking a shower instead of a bath. This is because showers take up a lot less water than baths do. The video says that you can save 100 liters of water by taking a shower instead of a bath. I am going to take a shower that s not as long as the one that I take right now. It could save 9 liters of water every minute less you take a shower. Another way to save water is collecting rain water in a barrel. The article says that you can use the rain water for watering plants, and even flushing the toilet! I am going to try watering plants. The last way I am going to tell you is turning off the water while you re brushing your teeth. The video says that you can save 30 liters of water if you turn off the water. Remember all living things need water to survive. If you do all of this you can make a difference. Spread the word conserve. M A X T I M E S
