NOTICE BOARD CKC WELCOMES NEW EVENTS MANAGER We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sherry Weiss to the position of Manager, Events, effective, April 13, 2015. Sherry has 35 years of experience in the financial services industry with responsibility for portfolios in excess of $1 Billion. In the retail banking environment she has had accountability and success in promoting a positive customer and employee experience, business plan development and execution, change leadership including major system implementations, and adherence to compliance regulations. She has volunteered in local charity work as well as municipal politics. For many years, Sherry has been involved in conformation shows and an active member in a variety of recognized dog clubs in the US and Canada. Please join us in welcoming Sherry to the CKC. MISSED THE 2015 CKC AGM? NOW YOU CAN WATCH IT ONLINE. With 70 attendees, it was a packed house at this year s Annual General Meeting, hosted for the first time at the Ontario Veterinarian College (OVC), University of Guelph, on Saturday, March 21. We realize how significant this event is for our members and for the first time, we offer those who were unable to attend the chance to view the AGM online. From your home computer or any mobile device, you can now catch CKC Chair, Bob Rowbotham's presentation and Lance Novak's Executive Director's Report, in addition to the presentation of the 2014 audited financial statements by Marcus Sconci, auditor, BDO, LLP and a report on the Election Commission by Robert Wilkes of BDO Canada, LLP. The video also includes talks by the OVC Chair, Dr. Elizabeth Stone, who discussed OVC initiatives in progress and Dr. Brian Wilcock, who spoke about the impact of breed standards, dog shows, and breeding practices in general, on the genetic health of the entire dog population. We would like to thank all of our clubs and members and affiliates who made the trip to join us at the AGM, and a special thanks to our host OVC for their hospitality. Watch the entire 2015 AGM here. NEW APPROVAL PROCESS SPEEDS UP PUBLICATION OF BOARD MINUTES In an effort to be more timely with member communications, English Board Meeting Minutes will now be published via the member website one month following a quarterly Board meeting two months ahead of the traditional publishing schedule, beginning with March 2015 Minutes. This new goal is to approve Board meeting minutes during a special meeting of the Board via teleconference meeting about one month after a quarterly Board meeting, resulting in a more timely publication of the minutes. Also, in an effort to be more open and transparent, the Board now publishes the complete English agenda, including full text and background for all motions on the website, two weeks before the quarterly meeting. Previously, only a synopsis was provided. Members must login to the member site and go to Membership Services/Board Meetings/Agendas. If you have questions or input on a particular motion please feel free to contact your Director. CKC CONGRATULATES HAVANESE FANCIERS OF CANADA ON AWARD FOR CLUB SPECIAL PUBLICATION The Canadian Kennel Club wishes to congratulate the Executive and members of the Havanese Fanciers of Canada Inc. on being nominated and winning an Award of Excellence by the Dog Writers Association of America in the category of Club Special Publication for "The Havanese Illustrated Study Guide". Five members of the Illustrated Guide Committee were nominated for their work on behalf of the Havanese Fanciers of Canada Inc. They were Lauren Goebel, Cindy MacLean, Paula Martel, Suzanne McKay and Claire Paulson. More information on the Guide can be found at www.havanesefanciers.com The illustrations, including colour by Diane Wynen, are amazing and have captured the personality and true essence of the breed. The detailed text, discussion/commentary in such a well-organized format helps to take away the mystery of the breed for novice breeders and judges as well as helping to hone the fine points of the breed for experienced ones," states Ontario North Director, Richard Paquette. Paquette believes that this document will help judges understand completely the nuances of the Havanese and give them the knowledge and confidence to assess dogs properly and reward outstanding specimens. He continues, The 'Havanese At A Glance' insert is also an innovative idea and excellent resource tool. This guide could serve as a template for other breed clubs and is a MUST for any 'library' for the breed. 2 MAY 2015
