HEART TESTING FOR DOGS OVER 4 YEARS OLD AT THE BREED SHOW on Saturday, 21st April 2018 Emily Dutton BVM&S, DVC, MRCVS will again be at the breed show 2018 to screen more hounds. This is part of the Deerhound Heart Study which aims to determine breed specific heart measurements. Data from this study will enable vets in the future to make earlier and more accurate diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) heart conditions. This year we are concentrating on doing repeat heart scans for those hounds which have been scanned more than 12 months ago and were classified by Emily as normal or equivocal. We also need another 2-3 new male hounds that are over 4 years old to join the study. If you would like to have your dog scanned please contact Sarah Helps well before the show (Tel: 01494 727 584 or E-mail: beardswoodhounds@btinternet.com) indicating your preferred time. Appointments will be given on a first come first served basis. Emily Dutton, the veterinary surgeon undertaking this study, requires from you (1) a photocopy of your dog s pedigree and (2) an accurate weight of your dog (in kg). Please note that you don t need to compete at the Breed Show to have your dog(s) scanned and all results will be passed directly to you and held in absolute confidence. PLEASE NOTE THAT EXACT TIMES MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DONATIONS FOR THE HEART STUDY The Deerhound Club in conjunction with Mrs Bev Doyle are funding this valuable and ultimately costly research. We would appreciate your generous donations. Please donate on the day or use the button on the website.

A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Show. Where the Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Show. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show. 11. Best in Show: Best in Show must be selected from the exhibits declared Best of Sex but only if they have received a first prize in a class at the same show. If a Reserve Best in Show is to be selected, the eligible dogs are those declared Best Opposite Sex and the Reserve Best of Sex to the exhibit declared Best in Show. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show must not compete in any subsequent competition. 12. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. 13. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them nor handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not touch the ground when on the move. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 14. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 15. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 16. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 17. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 18. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 19. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs and any other property entrusted to them but it must be distinctly understood by exhibitors and all other persons that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of, or damage to any dog or other property, whether arising from accident or other cause whatsoever, or for any act or omission of themselves, their officers, agents, servants or others. 20. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. Adequate receptacles for the disposal of such fouling will be provided. 21. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 22. A dog may be disqualified by the Board from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees. 23. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. 24. Under Kennel Club Rules & Regulations an exhibitor is not permitted to exhibit a dog under the breeder of said dog.
