Duston German Shepherd Dog Training Club Newsletter Summer Edition Welcome to the Summer Newsletter. In this edition we look back at some of the goingson and past activities that happened at our Dog Club during the Spring and Summer months. URGENT! If you have any photos of your GSD that you think would be suitable for next years calendar then please send them ASAP to gsdnewshound@live.co.uk! They need to be landscape layout rather than portrait, also think seasonal, spring theme, summer, autumn (halloween?) and christmas or snow pics would be great! High resolution and quality photos please! Steph will have to take the pics to the calendar printers very soon. Race night 2014. The annual Race Night will be held on the 4th October in Duston Village Hall, its always a fun night, consisting of screenings of horse races shown on a big screen, lots of fun and bets, plus a delicious chip supper and a well stocked bar, come along, bring your friends and family and help raise money for your club!
Pacesetters Display Team. 2014 season review: The Pacesetters Display Team finished their current season with their last display on 10th August, at Horwood House, for the jaguar owners club, with a thundery end. Their first display was in April in Cambridgeshire which ironically started in the rain also! However they have had a very good run of glorious summer shows sandwich in-between this tumultuous weather. Some of the younger dogs have come on leaps and bounds and its great to see their progress over the season, confidence building in obedience and learning new skills in agility and retrieving too. They travelled all over this season, Birmingham, Cambs, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire, Peterborough, and only 2 local shows, at Hardingstone and Upton. It was great to have Steph back in control of the team this year after her absence last year after her accident, she put together another brilliant obedience routine for the handlers to get their heads round and i think by the last show most of them had cracked it! A lot of hard work and practice was put in, a big well done to all the dogs and handlers for putting in the hard work. We had a new commentator this year, Catherine, who kindly took on the difficult role. Also a thank you to Jane who stood in at two displays as commentator also. One of the most enjoyable shows for all the team this year was a new show they hadn't been to before, The Forces Fun Day in St Neots, the crowd were very appreciative and supportive and loved the dogs! The team also had the privilege of going to the Guide Dogs for The Blind HQ at Leamington Spa and put on a display at their open day, again a great crowd made the handlers and dogs very happy. The team have raised over 49,000 for Guide Dogs to date and hopefully will continue this good work! If you are interested in joining The Pacesetters then talk to Steph, they will be training over the autumn and winter months and its a great way to occupy your GSD and give them some one-onone time with you as a handler and form an even stronger bond together.
DGSDTC 30th Anniversary Celebration.
On the 26th July, we held an evening celebration at our field in Bugbrooke, to commemorate 30 years of the Duston German Shepherd Dog Training Club s existence. The Club s 30th Anniversary Celebration was absolutely perfect, as was the weather. Approximately 94 Members, ex- members and friends came along and everyone without exception thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
A very special thanks must go to Stephanie and the Committee for all the effort and time spent to make sure everyone had a good time. The food was delicious (and plentiful), there was plenty to drink, and I think everyone will agree that it was a perfect evening. GARDENING DAY
Very many thanks to everyone who volunteered for the gardening day on Sunday 18th May, lots of jobs were done, your help was greatly appreciated. Summer Training
This Summer all training classes have been at the Bugbrooke field, with the exception of one night, it would appear that all dogs and handlers enjoyed being outside. Please note we will be back in Duston Village Hall from 2nd September 2014, Class times as follows: Intake: 6.10pm / Beginner 1: 6.50pm / Beginner 2: 7.30pm / Intermediate: 8.10pm / Advanced: 8.50pm.
BUGBROOKE FIELD: The committee wish to draw your attention to the fact that we are having CCTV fitted at the field to eliminate the problem of people not clearing up after their dogs. Tried & Tested! In the last edition of our newsletter i reviewed some dog products and due to positive response I had from members saying that they were going to try the items out, I thought I would review some more products! This great new eco-sustainable Anco Roots dog chew, has been receiving high praise from dogs and from owners alike! Our chief product testers, River & Blitz have loved these roots, these strange looking dog treats have more to offer than meets the eye Anco Roots are hand harvested from a secret eco-sustainable source, only the tuber of the root is harvested which sprouts again. They are limited to a responsible number each year, keeping the ecological impact to a minimum! As they are made from the tuber of a tree root these are extremely durable so work like a long lasting chew toy and they wont splinter or come off in chunks so are a safe and good natural toothbrush alternative for your dog.
100% Untreated /Will Not Splinter/Extremely Durable /Long Lasting/Fun Natural Chew Toy Natural Toothbrush /Naturally Present Vitamins and Minerals /Suitable For All Dog Sizes Including Puppies They are a good alternative to the Deer Antler chews for those power chewers. They are the not the cheapest ofdog chews, but because of their durability they will be worthwhile investment in the long run and hopefully your dog will love them! This is a rough rrp, I purchased a medium and 2 large ones from Smiths Farm Shop, near Boughton and they were around this price range. They are available online also, google the name ANCO ROOTS.
