Fido s Indoor Dog Park TM Issue 10, September 2011 FIDO S TM FIRST YEAR What a great first year we ve had and it s all thanks to you! To celebrate the day, we threw a big party with raffled gifts, vendors, pool jumping, photography by Nina Sage, agility demonstrations and a big barbeque! Fido s was happy to see so many humans and canines enjoying the fun and games. This past year has seen 2,806 dogs pass through our doors. We listened to your ideas and here are a few of the improvements made throughout the year: Installed a second poop chute; Added additional gates to make entering and exiting the park easier; Hired more staff; Maintained our 7 days a week/7am to 9pm hours of operation; Donated to schools, Humane Society and other charitable events; Rented space for Meetup groups (e.g., Boxers, Small Dog, Doodle, Great Dane, Puggle), a family reunion, dog training, and doggy massage; Added new vendors (e.g., BeBopUSA, Acana Dog Food) Started selling gift certificates; and Treated the entire facility with mpact (see related article below). 2
Fido s Indoor Dog Park TM Issue 10, September 2011 Fido s TM is now Microbe Free! Fido s TM recently contracted with mpact Environmental Solutions to become the first dog park in the Northwest to be treated with their product--ægis Microbe Shield. What does that mean to you and your dog? A facility that is now in control of indoor contaminants, such as mold, bacteria, odors, allergens, pet dander, fungi, mildew, and many others. It will protect your dog against kennel cough and other diseases carried by dogs (the protection does not cover direct contact with an infected dog). How does it work? The ÆGIS Microbe Shield permanently bonds to any treated surface providing on-going protection against germs by killing them on contact! Because the ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology does not dissipate or leach, it is not absorbed by the organism or by you. Instead, when the microbe comes into direct contact with the antimicrobial, it ruptures the cell membrane. This combination of stabbing and electrocution allows the technology to be fully effective as long as the surface remains intact. In other words, once treated, the surface remains treated for the life of the surface, unless physically damaged. Retreatment restores the efficacy of the product. Just what is this product? It was invented by Dow-Corning for NASA in the 1970 s and was registered with the EPA in 1976. Since then, the product has been recommended for use in the following areas: home, hospitals, nursing homes, patient rooms, operating rooms, ICU areas, shower rooms, locker rooms, public restrooms, schools, food processing plants, food service establishments, restaurants, commercial kitchens, office buildings, lodging establishments, retail businesses and athletic/recreational facilities. It is the secret ingredient in certain brands of socks and underwear. ÆGIS Microbe Shield has been tested and proven to be totally safe once applied to a surface. Fido s Indoor Dog Park TM Issue 10, September 2011 Fido s philosophy is to maintain a green facility and buy locally as often as we can. In keeping with this philosophy, Fido s is proud to announce that we are carrying a new line of products locally made in Gresham, Oregon! Secure Fit Safety Harness System In the event of an accident, or even quick braking or turning, Secure Fit protects your dog and your family. Designed by veterinarians and orthopedic surgeons to be anatomically correct, to avoid tracheal injury or damage and other potentially fatal injuries. Set includes harness and safety strap! Tender Lead Head Halter The Tender Lead creates relaxation and calmness by gentle pressure to appropriate reflex points behind a dog's ears and on his muzzle. Gentle pressure on these "touch" or "reflex" points, create a rewarding training situation in which your dog learns quickly and efficiently. The sidepieces of the Tender Lead move the whole head, similar to a horse halter. Other halter devices tend to pull just the dog s muzzle. The Tender Lead stays in place for comfort, safety and to effectively communicate the desired behavior. Your dog can open his mouth, drink and pant without restraint. Grippa Double Dog Walker & Grippa Handle Only The Grippa Handle (10 ) is great for big dogs. It attaches to any collar or harness so your dog can walk right next to you. Use the Double Dog Walker (comes with the Grippa Handle) when you are walking your two best friends. Leashes are 32 long. 4
Fido s Indoor Dog Park TM Issue 10, September 2011 Meet Fido s Employees! We want you to get to know who we are with a series about the men and women behind the mperial TM bottle. We will be asking our employees to tell a little about themselves, their prior experiences and their thoughts about Fido s TM. This month, our employee is Aaron Madore, Senior Staff Member. Originally from Maine, Aaron lived for several years in Colorado. Always an avid outdoorsman, Aaron has achieved an impressive record of accomplishments. In 2002, he completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and logged 2,168 miles. He s climbed numerous 14ers (mountains over 14,000 feet) and worked for a dog sledding company in the Colorado Mountains. He learned a lot about dog behavior from this job including which dogs paired well together and how each dog fits in the team, which generally consisted of 12-15 dogs per sled. Aaron moved to Portland last November and worked for a while as a canvasser with the Fund for Public Interest. He soon met Mary Williams, whom he knew in Maine, and found out Fido s TM was hiring. Aaron loves working at Fido s TM he sees how comfortable the dogs are and how like-minded his fellow employees are. This helps, as it s easy to just pick up where the prior shift left off. This has all led to a feeling of ownership and pride in what he does. The flexibility this job offers will allow him to continue advanced schooling in Wilderness Education. On his days off, Aaron and his fiancée can either be found at the coast, rock-climbing or up in the mountains. He has a long-term goal of additional thru-hikes, including the approximately 3,000 mile long Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.
