MCKC and Community News Silent Auction Items Needed for 2013 Awards Banquet While you are out shopping for the holidays, please pick up an item for the silent auction. The silent auction is one of the highlights of MCKC s awards banquet, and helps to generate funds for a worthy local charity. Last year s auction raised more than $1400 for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation and our Oklahoma chapter, and we hope to do the same this year. Donations will be accepted at the December membership meeting, or you can bring them to the banquet. Re-gifting is encouraged, so if you receive a holiday gift that is just not your style, donate it to our auction. Contact Jennifer Block for more details or to arrange drop-off of donated items. Bring pet food and supplies to the OAA office, located at 1822 E. 15th Street. OAA will load them into the Wheels of Hope transport van for delivery to the Tulsa Animal Welfare shelter. Tulsa SPCA would like to help ease the overcrowding of unwanted pets in the Tulsa area by encouraging residents to foster a pet for the holidays. Tulsa SPCA will provide all the needed supplies and instructions for the foster parent to help pets get adopted and settled in their new homes. Join Tulsa SPCA and let s get these pets into Homes for the Holiday. For more information, contact a SPCA Pet Placement Specialists @ 918-428-SPCA (7722) or email them at foster.program@tulsaspca.org. Holiday Pet Safety The holidays are filled with beautiful decorations and tasty foods that both you and your dog find enticing. Unfortunately, many holiday classics can be hazardous to your pets. Decorative plants, including holly, poinsettias and mistletoe, are toxic if ingested. Traditional holiday foods containing chocolate, grapes, and raisins (fruitcake comes to mind) can cause nausea, vomiting, and kidney failure in dogs. Make certain that these foods are kept away from your pets, and inform your house guests (and their children) that the dogs should not receive treats from the table.
