Job As you already know German shepherds are great pets, but also they are really hard workers. They have a lot of jobs that they are good at and can handle them. The first German shepherds were trained for police work around 1900 in Ghent, Belgium. When World War II started shepherds were used in military. They rescued soldiers, looked for mines and carried food or drugs. German shepherds rescued soldiers like this: They first sniffed around to find any alive people or dead bodies. Then they bark for the warriors to know it is safe and can look on. When they find their folks German shepherds will bark again to let know the warriors that he found what he was asked. The warriors will then take some medicine from the dog's vest. German shepherds are often used as police. You have probably seen German shepherds guiding the blind or Helping people with disabilities, live more independent. They are great dogs. Developed over countries from sheep herding and farmdog stock, the German shepherds has been trained as a police dog, as a carrier of messages, as a patrol dog in war and as a leader of blind. Sheep herding, if you wonder, is when a master finds his dog and asks for him to look over the dogs. A german shepherd makes a invisible fence in his mind, to know where the sheep's can t go. He watches over them to not get in trouble, like for an example a wolf comes and might want to eat dinner and eats a sheep. That is where a dog s instinct comes. He knows when to attack or just leave it. Now you might know more about sheep herding! Page 5

Training German shepherds do really good in German shepherds need plenty of agility contest training. You can start training your pet when it is a puppy. Praise your German shepherd when it does something you like. Ignore your dog when it does something you don t like, or gently show him/her the right thing. It is also important not to threaten and hit your helpless dog. As I already mentioned, you should teach your dog some basic commands. You could also teach your dog some more advanced tricks or games. You can go beyond the basics with your smart new pet! Did you know that German shepherds are known for their wolflike looks? These dogs are also large and solid, that helps them in many different activities. German shepherds are confident and brave dogs. Puppies are playful and grow quickly You are probably wondering if German shepherds are aggressive. That s why some people think that shepherds are unfriendly dogs, but that s not true. This dog is protective of it s family and always cautious of strangers. However if German shepherds have been socialized the right way they should let strangers come up to them without becoming aggressive. German shepherds are very loyal and trust their owner s commands. It is important to treat your puppy with respect and kindness. The German shepherds need lots of exercise. They are known for being quick and full of energy. They will be always ready run outside and be free. It is important for you to be also ready to play with your dog. And remember don t always blame the responsible of dog on your parents. They may also enjoy treats, but too many snacks can be unhealthy for your pet. Giving your German shepherd identification tags and a collar lets other people know this dog is your. Today microchipping also helps identify dogs that get lost. Ask your veterinarian about other ways you can help your German shepherd live a long healthy life. DO you think you are ready to own a dog? That is a big job. As I said you have to brush a German shepherd daily, but also go out three times a day and have a wlad. It is better ti stay with the puppy for the first year so he will get used to the housemates. Also it it is important to have a big house and a garden so your dog will have place to play.
