S U M M E R 2 0 1 8 P R O G R A M S A N D E V E N T S Recreation Connection LOWELL PARKS & RECREATION DEPT. Summer 2018 May - August FALL SOCCER LEAGUE Program Summary Youth ages 4-14 (No younger than 4 years of age on 8/13/18 and no older than 14 years of age on 8/13/18) can join our co-ed recreational soccer league. Fall Season Practices begin the week of August 13th. Teams will practice twice weekly with games played on Saturdays August 25th - October 6th Divisions by age Pee-Wee 4 & 5 Intermediate: 6 & 7 Junior: 8-10 Major: 11-14 League Volunteers needed! Coaches, assistants & team parents are needed. All league volunteers will receive early registration priority. Intent to coach must be made by 5/14/18 Early Registration for league volunteers will take place at the park office the week of June 11th during office hours M, W, F (9am-4pm) Contact the park office prior to May 15th if you are interested in any of these positions for Fall Season. Public Registration League player registration will be held Friday, June 29th from 6-8pm, and Saturday June 30th from 9-11am at the Lowell Town Hall. Teams will fill on a first come first served basis. We can not guarantee team and practice time availability. Remaining spots will be filled at the park office until all teams are filled. Majors players are drafted onto teams each season. All Majors Players (11-14 year olds) will need to bring a birth certificate to registration. Referees Must be 16 years of age. Apply before June 30th. Fee: $55 res/$60 non-res Check or Cash Only TENNIS CAMP Join us for our youth tennis camp. Ages 6-12 will learn age appropriate skills in a fun atmosphere by experienced youth tennis instructors. You bring the racquet...we ll bring the water balloons! DATES: July 16-July 19th * Rain dates of July 23rd & 24th TIME: Beginners: 5-6pm Intermediate: 6pm-7pm FEE: $50 resident/$55 non-resident Minimum 8 per class/ Maximum 20 per class Registration opens May 7th and will close on June 22nd

DATES: July 23rd, 24th, 25th TIME: Beginner Level 11 am 12:30 pm Intermediate Level 1 pm - 2:30 pm FEE: $45 res/$50 non-res Minimum 10 per class/ Maximum 30 per class Registration opens May 7th and will close on June 22nd JACOB BERGONIA MEMORIAL CELEBRATION An invite from the Bergonia Family In loving memory of Jacob Bergonia, please join us to celebrate his life! WHEN: Saturday May 26th at 11am WHERE: Freedom Park Skate Park-17105 Cline Ave. Lowell, IN 46356 Jacob s family with support from the community during the Burger King benefit, have provided for the purchase of two new pieces of skate park equipment! Thanks to all of you that participated in the benefit! Weather permitting, the family will be serving hotdogs at their home after the memorial celebration. Please bring your favorite drinks. SUMMER DAY CAMP A traditional summer day camp program for school aged youth. Enjoy games, crafts, special events and summer fun. Daily snacks and drinks are provided. Ages: 5-12 Dates: June 19th - July 19th *No camp July 4th week Days: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Time: 9 am -12 noon Place: Evergreen Park Fee: $ 100 res/ $105 non-res Enrollment: 30 min/ 48 max Registration Begins May 1st at the Parks Office Summer FUN happens at Parks Day Camp!! Sponsor a day of summer camp! We have been able to bring fun experiences and visitors to our summer day camp due to generous donations! Page 3 RECREATION CONNECTION SHELTER RESERVATIONS FOR 2018 We rent shelters at Evergreen Park, Liberty Park, Freedom Park and the gazebo at Old Towne Square. Each park has special amenities, listed below. Shelter permits are filled on a first come, first served basis at the Park office beginning January 3rd. Evergreen Park $60 res/$70 non-res Located on Commercial Avenue across from the Lowell Public Library. Fishing Pond, 2 large Basketball Courts, Large play structure for all ages. 2 shelters are available for rent at this location. Liberty Park $60 res/$70 non-res Located between Main, Washington Street and North Liberty Street. This park has the ideal play structure for little ones; basketball courts and tennis courts. Freedom Park $60 res/$60 non-res Located at 17105 Cline Avenue. Playground equipment with a handicapped swing, Disc Golf Course, Nature Trails, Skate Park, Memorial Brick Walk, Soccer Fields, Dog Park (Members Only) Sand volleyball courts. Old Towne Square $60 res/$70 non-res Located at the corner of Freemont and Commercial Avenue. Old Towne Square is a small park located close to the downtown district. Beautiful flowers, trees and a Gazebo make this a great place for small parties or weddings. Restrooms are not available. MEMORIAL BRICKS FOR SALE Do you have a loved one that you would like to honor? A person who is hard to buy for? A special anniversary or event that you would like to make a mark in history with? We offer engraved bricks that will be placed into our Freedom Park Memorial Brick Walk. Each 4 by 8 brick can be engraved with 3 lines of text. Bricks are $35 each. Order forms are available in the Park Office and at Lowell Town Hall. DONATE A TREE Would you like to give a gift that keeps on giving? This is a great way to remember someone for many years to come. We have a list of trees that you can donate to plant within Freedom Park. Memorial Bricks can be purchased to place by your donated tree.

Pack up your fishing poles, chairs and the family. Bait will be provided. Prizes will be awarded in several areas for ages 12 and under. Hotdogs and chips will be served to our contestants. Page 5 Senior Happenings Senior Citizen Events at Lowell Library The Lowell Parks Department and Lowell Public Library meet once monthly with our local senior citizens at the library. All of our events are free to attend. Please contact the Park Office at 696-1570 to reserve your spot. Spring Fling May 3, 2018 at 10 am *Entertainment from Peggy Hendricks! Dessert provided! We will gather again in September. Please contact the park office in August at 219-696-1570 for our fall event schedule. ARCHERY CAMP Youth ages 6 and up learn basic archery skills and safety at Freedom Park. Our instructors are certified archery educators. Fee includes the use of all equipment and safety gear. DATES: July 23rd, 24th, 25th TIME: 10 am-11:30 am FEE: $35 res/$40 non-res Minimum 10/ Maximum 30 Register opens May 7th and will close on June 22nd FREEDOM BARK PARK Come check out our beautiful members only dog park. We offer acres of fenced in, beautifully kept property for you and your canine companions to enjoy. All canine members must remain current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo and Leptospirosis (DHPPL) and proof of vaccines must be provided at the time of registration. For your convenience, registration forms, waivers and rules can be printed at www.lowell.net Parks Department link under Bark Park Forms. 2018 MEMBERSHIP FEES: Lowell resident (Cedar Creek, West Creek and Eagle Creek Townships) $60.00/ $70.00 non-resident 65+ or on disability $30.00 resident/ $35.00 non-resident Please add $5 for each additional dog. Monthly, weekly and daily passes are available! *Proof of vaccinations required for all passes. Remember, our newsletter can be found on the town website under Parks Department-Recreation Connection. Printed copies are distributed through Tri-Creek elementary schools and local pre-schools. Copies are available for pick up at Lowell Library, Town Hall and the Park Office. Several volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year. Volunteers are needed for community events, beautification projects within the parks and assistance with park programs. We participate in the Devils Community Giveback Program (Lowell High School Community Service Requirements) Interested volunteers need to fill out a volunteer application at the Park Office or email recdirector@lowell.net for an application. JOB OPENINGS Fall Soccer Referees Must be 16 or older to apply. Available 8:30am 1:30pm on Saturdays August 25th-October 6th Apply at the Park Office. Application Deadline is June 30th.
