KENDALL COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW GENERAL RULES

2017-2018 KENDALL COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW GENERAL RULES ADOPTED APRIL 2017 1. A.) Showing of unethically fit livestock for exhibition is prohibited. Unethical fitting will be deemed to consist of any method altering the natural conformation of any part of the animal s body. Animals showing any signs of having been operated upon or tampered with for the purpose of concealing faults in conformation or with intent to deceive relative to the animals soundness will be disqualified. B.) Only Kendall County Junior Livestock Show authorized prizes will be given ribbons, buckles, monies, etc. C.) Show committee will determine number of weight classes. D.) The Champions and Reserve Champions of all market species are subject to being drug tested. E.) KCJLSA to install signs stating USDA rules and regulations and 1997 Food Administration regulations 21CF589.2000. Animals condemned for illegal or performance enhancing drugs forfeit all monies and prizes, and that exhibitor(s) are subject to being banned from all future KCJLA shows. 2. Numerical ribbons will be presented through 20 th place. All ribbons above 20 th place will not have numbers. 3. Premium money will be determined by Director s prior to the Show. 4. An Exhibitor is eligible to win any or all of the following Showmanship Divisions: A.) Junior Showman (13 years and under) and Senior Showman (over 13 years) in market classes and breeding classes. 1.) Breeding Cattle 2.) Breeding Sheep and Goats A.) One (1) Showmanship Buckle for Breeding Sheep B.) One (1) Showmanship Buckle for Breeding Goats 3.) Breeding Swine 4.) Market Lambs 5.) Market Steers 6.) Market Swine 7.) Poultry (Chicken and Turkey) 8.) Meat Goats 9.) Dairy Cattle B.) C.) D.) Exhibitors must have an entry in the Division to be eligible to win Showmanship award. Numbers will be provided by the KCJLSA. All exhibitors must wear a showmanship number to be eligible to win a showmanship award. Numbers to be provided by the KCJLSA. Only one (1) Showmanship Number per exhibitor for all classes or breeding or market animals shown. Page 1 of 14

5. All livestock must be weighted and/or in place as per show schedule. A.) No livestock will be allowed to leave KCJLSA Show ground unless released by Show Official 6. Each exhibitor is eligible to sell only one (1) market unit. Any exhibitor found to have sold more than one unit in the sale, regardless of circumstance, any or all parties involved will be banned from all future shows and sales and any monies over and above floor price will be forfeited to KCJLSA. A.) B.) Sale order to be determined by KCJLA Directors. Each exhibitor must have Thank You letters for Belt Buckles and/or Thank You letter for Buyer before the exhibitor will receive a check for a sale unit which sold at the KCJLSA Sale. 7. Only Grand and Reserve Grand Champions of their respective Division will sell at the beginning of the Auction Sale. An exhibitor will be allowed to switch a sale unit only if the sale unit is a Grand or Reserve Grand Champion A.) An exhibitor must notify the Committee chairman within one (1) hour after the conclusion of the show to switch a sale unit to either Grand or Reserve Grand Champion. B.) Regular sale to start with sale unit (13). 8. A.) All exhibitors will sign an affidavit of ownership and primary care to include Physical location of each animal unit. B.) All animals will be validated. C.) All validation certificates must be turned in on day of validation or within 5 days to Ag teacher or County Agent. 9. All market animals will be weighed one (1) time only. A.) All market animals will be weighed with a 3% shrink for sale price purposes. 10. Eligibility Notice of eligibility to participate will be determined and enforced by school officials and county agents. In order to participate in the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show and Sale, youth must meet the following qualifications: A.) 1.) Reside in Kendall County, the Comfort Independent School District, or the Boerne I Independent School District; OR 2.) Be enrolled in grades 2 12 in the Comfort Independent School District, the Boerne Independent School District, a Private School in Kendall County, or be home schooled in one of the areas described in subsection A.1. B.) Be at least seven (7) years of age, and not more than nineteen (19) years of age. C.) Be a member of the Kendall Co. 4-H or Comfort FFA or Boerne ISD FFA. D.) Be passing all classes. (no pass/no play) Page 2 of 14 An exhibitor participating in the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is not eligible to participate in another County Show and/or Sale. An exhibitor found to have violated the eligibility rules after participation in the show or sale will forfeit all awards received and monies received above floor price.

11. Substitution With prior approval of the appropriate Division Superintendent an exhibitor may have a substitute or show and/or sell their unit under the following circumstances: A.) Conflict with another school function B.) Due to No Pass/No Play C.) Due to injury or illness (with a doctors note) D.) For other emergency reasons as approved by the Division Superintendent. The exhibitor must personally show and/or sell their unit unless prior approval is received. substitute must be a member of the Kendall County 4-H or Boerne FFA or Comfort FFA. A Any exhibitor found to have violated the substitution rules after participation in the show or sale will forfeit all awards received and monies received above floor price. 12. Each exhibitor will be entitles to place only two entries in any one class and these entries must have been fitted under the supervision of the county extension agent or agricultural teacher and may be exhibited only in the name of the bonafide owner. Show entries must be owned and in the exhibitor s possession prior to validation. 13. All animals brought to the show must be thoroughly halter broken or sufficiently gentled so that they may be handled both in and out of the show ring without delay or danger to those present on the show grounds. 14. County Validation A.) An entry fee of $20.00 (Twenty) per animal unit will be assessed at KCJLSA validation. Entry fee monies are not refundable. Validation forms will be used as show entries for market animals and breeding swine. A form for recording who paid their entry fee must be filled out at the time of validation. B.) STATE Validation will be handled (ordered and paid to) by County Extension Agent and/or Ag. Instructors. C.) Applications for entry, Breeding Cattle, Sheep and Goats, must be in the hands of the Show Secretary no later than the first week of November. NO LATE ENTRY S ACCEPTED. D.) A COOL form must be filled out by all exhibitors for any and all sale unites at the KCJLA Show. 15. A sifter or sifting committee or a proficient market grade shall pass on all animals entered in the market classes. Animals not qualifying for the grade set by the Board of Directors will not be allowed for competition or auction. 16. All male and female breeding animals must be purebred or registered. Purebred must show only characteristics of the breed in which they are entered. Exhibitors will be required to provide ownership certificates on all male and female animals upon request. 17. Exhibitor s check will be held until KCJLA deem sufficient funds are available to write checks. In addition, individual exhibitor checks may be held until all funds on that unit have been collected. KCJLA reserves the right to hold an exhibitors check due to past account history or unpaid balances. Page 3 of 14

18. All animals must be properly trimmed/groomed and shown to be eligible for sale. 19. Any supervised livestock project in proper possession of an exhibitor, which is killed or lost, may be replaced upon approval by the Board of Directors of this organization if notified by the exhibitor by December 1 of the show year. 20. President and Division Superintendents will appoint Showmanship Committee. 21. Protest proceeds will be established as follows: a protestor shall present the protest to the president or division chairman, this organization, in writing stating nature of protest accompanied by $200.00. Board of Directors shall call an immediate meeting with the protestor and protestee being present. If protest is sustained, protestors fee will be returned and exhibition involved is ineligible for any premium awards or participation of the sale of year. If protest is not sustained, protestor forfeits protest fee. No protest will be allowed on decision of sifting or classifications. 22. Show barn facilities will be vacated by 11 P.M. during annual show. NO exhibitors will be allowed to stay overnight. 23. Animals being sold must be displayed in their natural state. No glitter, ribbons or other means of decorations. 24. Kendall County Junior Livestock Show WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS. 25. State or County validation tags will be used on market steers, market lambs, market swine, breeding swine and meat goats. 26. Commission for all livestock sales will be 5% on the gross sale. 27. No banners, ribbons or buckles may go into the sale ring unless won by the animal being sold at that time only. Kendall County Junior Livestock Association Show animals only. 28. Only the designated seller can be in the sale ring during the sale. 29. Once weighed, no market animal will be allowed to leave the gated area of the KCJLSA unless sifted. 30. No animals will be released after the sale without release papers from the committee chairman or from the sale committee. 31. No Dogs or other pets will be allowed on the KCJLSA Grounds during the show and sale. 32. Exhibitors will not be allowed to reserve pens for Goats, Lambs or Swine before check in. No Goats, Lambs or Swine will be in KCJLSA Show Barn before 8:00 AM on day of check in. 33. No animals, in any Division, may be shown in both, market and breeding classes. 34. When animals arrive on the KCJLA grounds they are considered property of the KCJLA board and the board has the right to use these animals for educational purposes as needed. Page 4 of 14

SHEEP AND GOAT DIVISION MARKET LAMBS: 1. Market lambs, excluding Southdown's and Hair Sheep, must have a minimum weight of 100 pounds with no maximum weight. Southdown's and Hair Sheep must have a minimum weight of 90 pounds with no maximum weight. 2. A.) No stags, bucks or ewes may be shown in market classes. B.) Only wether lambs may show in market classes. Market lamb classes will be as follows: FINEWOOL: Rambouillet or Delaine or a cross thereof FINEWOOL CROSS: A typical fist cross of a Finewool and a Hampshire, Suffolk or Dorset. SOUTHDOWN: Southdown Purebreds. MEDUIMWOOL: Purebred or grade Hampshire, Suffolk or Dorset or cross thereof. HAIR SHEEP: Breed standards will follow Texas major show standards for hair sheep. 3. All lambs will be sheared slick from knee to hock up within seven (7) days of show. 4. Validation of all lambs will occur prior to November 1 with actual date to be determined by lamb committee. Each exhibitor will sign a previously mentioned affidavit for each animal. An entry fee will be charged. BREEDING SHEEP AND ANGORA GOATS: 1. Classes for Angora Goats, Finewool Breeding Sheep, Mediumwool Breeding Sheep and Hair Breeding sheep, will be provided for those exhibitors who have entered their breeding animal by November 1 and have paid a $20.00 (Twenty) per head entry fee. 2. Goats classes to be as follows: A.) Kids B.) Yearlings (2 to 4 tooth) C.) Aged (6 tooth and over) 3. All Breeding Sheep and Goats, regardless of age, must have a valid Texas Scrapie validation tag at time of show. MEAT GOAT DOE SHOW: 1. General KCJLS Rules Apply. 2. Show to coincide with other breeding sheep and Angora goat shows prior to market shows. 3. Does will not be sold in the sale. 4. Awards TBD. 5. Does may be shown in the hair. 6. Must have county and/or state validation tag and scrapie tag. Page 5 of 14

7. No registration paper are required. 8. An exhibitor will be allowed to exhibit a maximum of two (2) meat goat does. 9. KCJLS board reserves the right to disqualify any does showing pronounced defect or abnormality 10. Minimum weight of 60 pounds. 11. Fitting No agent other than water may be used to fit a goat. Foreign materials including (but not limited to) painting, powdering, oiling, artificial coloring, or adhesives is prohibited. 12. Meat Goat Doe classes to be as follows: A.) Doe kid must be carrying all milk teeth at time of check in B.) Yearling must be showing one or both teeth of first pair of permanent incisors. C.) Aged Does Must be showing more than the first pair of permanent incisors. 13. KCJLS board will determine the number of classes in each division. If there is more than one class, they will be broken by weight. 14. First and Second place animals in each division will participate in the grand drive to determine an overall Grand Champion Meat Goat Doe and Reserve Champion Meat Goat Doe. MARKET MEAT GOATS: 1. All meat goats will be validated prior to November 1 with actual date set by the meat goat committee. Each exhibitor will sign a previously mentioned affidavit for each animal. An entry fee will be charged. 2. A.) Only wether meat goats can show B.) No stags or bucks may be shown in market classes. 3. Any purebred or cross thereof is eligible to show. 4. At validation, all meat goats must be castrated, debuded or have their horns tipped, with the diameter of the tipped horn being larger than a dime. 5. All meat goats must be evenly slick shorn from knee to hock up prior to weigh in. Goats with hair over 3/8 will be sifted. 6. A.) Meat goat committee has authority to change weight classes as necessary. B.) There will be three (3) weight divisions as determined by the Meat Goat Committee with a Champion & Reserve Champion from each weight divisions and a Grand & Reserve Grand Champion Overall. 7. No agent other than water may be used to fit a goat. 8. Meat goats will be 65 pounds to 115 pounds. 9. An exhibitor will be allowed to exhibit a maximum of three (3) head of meat goats. Page 6 of 14

CATTLE DIVISION MARKET STEERS: 1. A.) Steers must weigh a minimum of 1000 pounds to be eligible for the show and sale. B.) Mini steers weighing less than 1000 pounds are eligible to show, but may not be sold in the auction. 2. Effective February 1, 2017, steer classes will be as follows: A.) Brahman B.) Brangus C.) Santa Gertrudis D.) Simbrah E.) ABC F.) Red and Black Angus G.) Horned Hereford H.) Polled Hereford I.) Shorthorn J.) Charolais K.) Limousin L.) Maine-Anjou M.) Simmental N.) AOB O.) Miniature 1.) All Miniature steers will show together as one breed. 2.) Miniature classes will be determined by the Steer Committee. 3. If there are 4 or less steers in a breed they will show together. We will not break weight classes unless there are 5 or more steers in each breed. 4. All steers will be classified and sifted by an official classifier and sifter at weigh in. 5. All steers must be State validated during the month of June at a date to be determined by the steer committee. An entry fee will be charged. 6. No adhesive may be used as a fitting agent. 7. Any diseased or injured steer will not be exhibited or sold. 8. Any steer found to be unethically fit through the act of artificially filling internally, which would include stomach pumping, drench tubes, or any other method per oz. (by esophagus) will be disqualified from the show and sale. Page 7 of 14

BREEDING BEEF CATTLE: 1. All Breeding Heifers must be registered and State validated by November 1 of the year proceeding the show. A. Classes will be set up according to entries or as warrants by Show Officials. B. Breeding Beef Cattle Buckles will be awarded in three (3) Divisions. 1.) American 2.) British 3.) Exotic 2. Any heifer two (2) years old before September 1 of the preceding year of the KCJLSA show will be ineligible to show. 3. Heifer s and original papers must be presented at Heifer validation at a date and time determined by the Steer Committee of the KCJLA in the first week of November. An entry fee of twenty ($20.00) will be assessed at this time. All tattoos must match registration papers. All heifer entries will be due at this time. Late entries will not be accepted. 4. No adhesive may be used as a fitting agent. DAIRY CATTLE: 1. Dairy Cattle classes will be established for county show identical as those cited for the San Antonio Livestock Show. 2. All Dairy Cattle must be entered by November 1. An entry fee of (Twenty) $20.00 per breeding animal will be assessed. Page 8 of 14

SWINE DIVISION MARKET SWINE: 1. Market swine entered may be purebred or crossbred. 2. All market swine entered must weigh between 220 and 280 pounds and grade not lower than US No. 2. 3. Gilts or barrows may be shown in the market swine class. 4. A.) Dated for validation will be determined by Swine Committee using December 1 as the last day. An entry fee will be charged. Validation tags will be applied. No other tags will be permitted. All swine must be ear notched. Families may validate as a family unit without declaring individual ownership. Each exhibitor will sign a previously mentioned affidavit for each animal. B.) An exhibitor may not show more than ten (10) units, breeding and market combined. Only KCJLSA validated animals may be shown. The KCJLA Swine Committee will sift and classify all swine. All sift hogs will go home immediately after weigh-in and sift. All swine must be clean at weigh-in, including validation tags. 5. Weight classes will be set up according to entries or as warrants by show officials. 6. Breed classes will be as follows: A.) York B.) Crossbred C.) Duroc D.) Hampshire E.) Light O.P.B. F.) Dark O.P.B. 7. Swine Committee shall have authority to change market swine classes as deemed necessary. 8. No trimming of swine of any kind will be permitted on the show grounds (razor combs and scissors permitted without snaring). Entries that are artificially colored with paste, powder, or oil will be banned from the show ring. Only water is acceptable No agent other than water may be used to fit market swine. BREEDING SWINE: 1. There will be two divisions of breeding swine: (Gilts only, there will be no boars shown) A.) Registered Breeding Swine 1.) Classes for Registered Breeding Swine will be as follows: A.) Duroc B.) Hampshire C.) Light O.P.B. D.) Dark O.P.B. E.) Yorkshire Page 9 of 14

2.) Exhibitors of animals in registered breeding classes must present ORIGINAL registration papers to the division superintendent as they are checked in to be eligible to show. Scramble Papers will be accepted, but no partnership papers will be accepted. Gilts with incorrect registration papers or ear notches or identification problems will be sifted. Registered gilts must be tagged with an official Texas Swine Tag, and be validated as approved by the Texas Education Agency Department of Agricultural Education and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service or validated with a KCJLA validation tag. 3.) Registration papers must be in the name of the exhibitor as shown on the entry card. If the gilt is registered in a farm name, the registration papers must show the sole exhibitor as the owner. 4.) Pedigreed animals must be registered in the Herd book of their Association in only the name of the Junior owner on or before December 1 of the year preceding the show. Purchase, delivery, possession, and registration transfers must all take place on or before December 1 of the year preceding the show. 5.) Pedigreed gilt classes are for animals farrowed between July 1 and September 10 of the year preceding the show. 6.) Classes will be broken by age following check-in. Classes will be divided at KCJLA discretion. B.) Non-Pedigreed Breeding Swine 1.) Non-Pedigreed (cross) gilts must be tagged with an official Texas Swine Tag, and be validated as approved by the Texas Education Agency Department of Agricultural Education and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service or validated with a KCJLA validation tag. 2.) Purchase, delivery, and possession, must all take place on or before December 1 of the year preceding the show. 3.) There will be a two hundred (200) pound minimum weight and no maximum weight. The classes will be divided at KCJLA discretion. 2. A gilt can ONLY be entered in the Registered Breeding division or the Non-Pedigreed Breeding division. A gilt cannot be entered in both divisions. 3. No trimming of swine of any kind will be permitted on the show grounds (razor combs and scissors permitted without snaring). Entries that are artificially colored with paste, powder, or oil will be banned from the show ring. Only water is acceptable. 4. Champion Drives: A.) All pedigreed breed champions and reserve breed champions will compete for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion pedigreed gilt. B.) All non-pedigreed breeding swine will compete for Champion and Reserve Champion nonpedigreed gilt. C.) The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion pedigreed gilt and the Champion and Reserve Champion non-pedigreed gilt will compete for Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion gilt. POULTRY DIVISION: RULES AND REGULATIONS POULTRY 1. At the KCJLA meeting after the delivery of the turkeys and broilers, the poultry chairman will receive an updated list of names and wing band numbers for the exhibitors birds. 2. Broiler feeder can only sell one (1) pen of broilers, however, they can show two (2) pens of broilers. (One (1) pen of Pullets and One (1) pen of Cockerels) Pullets and Cockerels will show with one (1) Grand Champion. A.) SHOW WEIGHTS Each exhibitor weighs in three (3) pullets and three (3) cockerels. You can bring a maximum of four (4) broilers (Pullets or Cockerels). Minimum weight for Pullets will be 16 lbs. per pen. Minimum weight for Cockerels will be 18 lbs. per pen. B.) DIRECTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ADJUST WEIGHT. 3. Exhibitors will be required to stay from the time the poultry is weighed-in until cleanup is complete. 4. A.) Turkey feeder can only sell one (1) turkey: however, you can exhibit two (2) turkeys that have to be tagged. Hens and toms show with one (1) Grand Champion. Hens 16 lbs. Minimum no top. Toms, 20 lbs. minimum, no top. B.) A turkey designated as a sale unit must have the wing band removed at the show. 5. All broilers and turkeys will be wing banded when they are purchased. Each exhibitors will be required to give his project supervisor a copy of the numbers on his or her birds at the time of purchase. Nonwing banded birds will be disqualified. 6. A processing fee will be determined by the poultry committee prior to the show. No birds will be accepted for the show unless this fee is paid. 7. The poultry show date and time will be determined prior to the show. No poultry will be weighed in and closing time. 8. After each pen has been weighed in accepted the broilers will be put into numbered pens. 9. The coops that the poultry were brought in must be removed prior to the judging. We will not be responsible for any that are left. 10. At the sale, each exhibitor will have to be at the designated area to pick up his poultry to sell if they are to be sold. If the exhibitor fails to appear, the poultry will not be sold. If for some good reason the exhibitor cannot be there, then someone will have to be appointed to sell for them. 11. A proficient poultry specialist will sift all poultry. Page 11 of 14

12. Poultry entries will be weighed in one (1) time only. 13. Poultry will be sifted for the following: A.) Bruises B.) Blisters C.) Tears D.) Crooked backs and breast E.) Excessive pin feathers F.) Excessive filthy birds G.) Parasites 14. All sifted birds will be marked before leaving barn. 15. All Broilers and Turkeys to come from same hatchery, same hatch. 16. A child will be able to go to the poultry sifter only one time 17. Each exhibitor will sign a previously mentioned affidavit for each pen of broilers and turkeys with their assigned wing band number attached. AG MECHANICS CONTEST BLUEPRINT BUILD OFF CLASS ELIGIBILITY 1. The eligibility requirements for the Ag Mechanics show will be the same as those outlined in the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show General Rules. 2. There will be two age divisions in the Ag Mechanics show a. Senior Division, open to eligible students in 9 th, 10 th, 11 th and 12 th grades b. Intermediate Division, open to eligible student in 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grades CONTEST OVERVIEW 1. For this contest, all participants within a division will be given the same amount of time to complete the project and all participants within a division will build the same project based on the same detailed plans. 2. Detailed plans will be sent to all participants at least 60 days prior to the show date. 3. Entrants are responsible for identifying, sourcing and procuring all materials needed to complete the project based on the detailed plans provided. a. Estimated cost of materials not to exceed $200 for the Senior Division and $100 for the Intermediate Division. Actual costs may vary. 4. All fabrication of the project must be completed by the student. Page 12 of 14

5. No group projects will be allowed. Only single student entries will be accepted. 6. Students may not make multiple entries, only one project per student. 7. Projects may require metal, wood or other material fabrication to complete. 8. All entrants will be required to complete a record book detailing the fabrication planning and completion. RULES 1. Project Completeness a. All projects must be complete including finish in order to be presented during the contest. b. Projects should be clean and free of dust and debris and in a presentable fashion. Any item necessary for the function of the project must be a part of the project (i.e. hinges, latches, doors etc.). c. Exhibitors must bring anything necessary to properly display the project. 2. Over grinding, sanding, use of fillers or other methods of improving the appearance of structural components of a project may result in scoring penalties. It is at the judge s discretion to determine if poor workmanship has been hidden by these methods for structural components. These methods are permitted for product areas/features that must be finished for functional and/or for cosmetic purposes. 3. Projects may be constructed at an Ag Shop or a Private Shop. In order to utilize a school Ag Shop the student must meet all school requirements necessary to be allowed to use the shop/equipment. 4. Exhibitors must be there to present their project when it is judged. 5. All projects are to be displayed with a sign that includes the exhibitor s name. 6. Project books are mandatory for all divisions and will be part of the scoring process. Books must include the following: Pictures of exhibitor building the project (ALL phases) Material List and Cost Equipment Used Cut Sheet Breakdown of time invested in each process (i.e. welding, grinding, cutting, coating etc) MSDS Sheets (Senior Division only) 7. Judging System a. Workmanship..40 points b. Students knowledge of project 25 points c. Finish..10 points d. Project record book....25 points Total..100 POINTS Page 13 of 14

AWARDS 1. Blue, Red and White ribbons will be awarded for quality in each division 2. Blue ribbon projects will be judged for Champion, Reserve Champion in each division 3. Champion and Reserve Champion in each Division will receive Belt Buckles 4. The top 5 placing blue ribbon projects in each division will earn a sale slot at the Kendall County Junior Livestock Auction. Only blue ribbon projects are eligible for sale slots. A.) An exhibitor earning a sale slot through the Ag Mechanics contest may elect to sell their Ag Mechanics project in place of an animal in the sale, but no exhibitor will be allowed to sell both an animal and an Ag Mechanics project. The exhibitor must choose which project they will sell. B.) If an exhibitor chooses not to sell a qualifying Ag Mechanics project, the next highest placing Blue Ribbon project would become eligible to accept that sale slot. Page 14 0f 14
