Role Purpose As well as contributing to the daily operations and functionality of the Kennels, Kennels Animal Attendants ultimately enhance the environment for dogs in the RSPCA s care and improve their chance of finding a forever home. I love working with the dogs as they are always so happy to see you for a walk or play. It is good to know that I can help make their lives better and give them love and plenty of cuddles while they are waiting for their new home. Cynthia, Kennels Volunteer Key Responsibilities The Kennels Animal Attendant will be responsible for the following activities: Assisting staff in the general cleaning and maintenance of the kennels, including but not limited to the removal of faeces, cleaning/hosing of the dog yards, hosing and disinfecting of dog pens Changing of bedding and the restocking of bed bins Cleaning kitchen and maintaining the water fountains in the arena area Exercise and socialisation of dogs Other tasks as agreed by staff may include general cleaning of cattery area, laundry Volunteers are NOT to medicate animals 1 of 8 Engagement\Epping Animal Welfare Racilities\Role Profiles\Kennel Animal Attendant.doc

Please note: The afternoon shift presents a greater opportunity to walk dogs and partake in their enrichment and rehabilitation. Requirements To be successful in this role, the volunteer will possess the following necessary skills and attributes: Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully General fitness, physical strength and the ability to handle untrained dogs Ability to be self-sufficient and work well autonomously Experience with unfamiliar dogs, confidence in their presence, and an ability to observe behaviour Willingness to work outdoors regardless of the weather conditions Preparedness to work in a noisy environment Willingness to assist in extra cleaning duties during peak times, as per the Supervisor/Animal Attendants request Training & Support Requirements The following training will be provided: Volunteer Induction Animal health and behaviour volunteer orientation training On the job training with Animal Attendant staff Ongoing opportunity to discuss your role and any concerns with the supervising staff member or Volunteer Support Officer. Part of my role is to ensure that the adoptions area is presented in the best light so it reflects positively on the RSPCA. My work as a volunteer positively influences the public s perception of the organisation and assists the animals in being adopted into their forever home. Cattery Volunteer Key Responsibilities The Cattery Assistant will be responsible for the following activities: Cleaning and disinfecting cat cages in the adoptions and quarantine areas, including litter trays and food bowls 3 of 8

Cleaning rabbit and guinea pig adoption pens / cages, including litter trays and food bowls. This may also include cleaning bird, rats/mice and ferret cages Preparation and distribution of food and water Socialising and grooming of cats, rabbits and guinea pigs Environmental enrichment for cats and kittens Distribution / making toys and other environmental enrichment tools Observing animals for any behavioural changes, signs of illness and reporting this to staff Sweeping, mopping, cleaning area and restocking of supplies Assisting with rubbish removal Requirements To be successful in this role, the volunteer will possess the following necessary skills and attributes: General fitness, physical strength and the ability to handle loads up to 10kg and manage tasks such as mopping Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete tasks in a timely manner Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully Confidence handling unfamiliar cats and an ability to read cat behaviour Flexibility and willingness to assist in other RSPCA departments as required, especially with rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, rats/mice, ferrets and the laundry areas Training & Support Requirements On the job training with Animal Attendant staff. This role can be varied and will suit a volunteer who is flexible, enjoys undertaking a range of activities, has previous handyman or trade experience and enjoys working in a team. As with all our volunteer roles, each plays an important part in contributing to the work of RSPCA Victoria to end cruelty to all animals and this role is critical to ensure the ongoing amenity of our animal care facilities. Key Responsibilities The Maintenance Volunteer- may be responsible for the following activities: General grounds support- garden maintenance, weeding, watering General facility support- including tasks such as window cleaning and general cleaning Basic handyperson tasks- including light bulb changing, filter changes, minor repairs, setting up/installation/moving furniture Manual Handling- moving equipment/supplies around facility as required (for example moving Foster Care pack contents from storage to the main building), using appropriate equipment Driving- some incidental driving may be part of this role 5 of 8

Key Responsibilities Animal Transport Drivers may undertake the following activities: Driving an RSPCA vehicle to transport animals, supplies and equipment between locations. These locations include animal care centres, specialist clinics, carers residences, animal welfare organisations, regional shelters and adoption centres Assisting with the loading/unloading of animals, supplies and equipment Observing animal behaviour and reporting any concerns to the relevant staff member Cleaning and disinfecting the vehicles after use 7 of 8

Requirements To be successful in this role, the volunteer will possess the following skills and attributes: Essential: A current, full driver s license and confidence driving an RSPCA Victoria vehicle Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully Strong communication skills and a love for engaging with people and animals General fitness, physical strength and the ability to lift up to 10kg Animal handling experience with a range of animals As this role either a set day and/or is an on-call basis both flexibility and availability are required for short (2-3 hour) and long trips (8 hours) Desirable: Relevant experience in an animal handling role with the RSPCA Victoria Experience or ability to tow a trailer would be well regarded Training & Support Requirements The following training will be provided: Relevant training modules, including Driver Training, Animal Handling and Behaviour, and Manual Handling modules On the job training with the Volunteer Support Officer and experienced Animal Transport Drivers Ongoing opportunity to discuss your role and any concerns with the Volunteer Support Officer Other Requirements RSPCA Victoria is serious about providing a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers and the animals in our care.
