Do all of the adults in your family work outside the house? Full time? Part time? Your occupation Spouse s occupation Where did you learn about Dragonslair Leonbergers? LCA Website AKC Website Other Please explain: Why do you want a Leonberger? What other breeds have you owned?
What happened to the last dog you owned? Does anyone in your household have allergies? Have you ever given up (i.e. giving it away, returned it to a breeder, etc.) or euthanized a dog for other than health reasons? If so please explain circumstances: Does everyone in the family want a Leonberger puppy, and is everyone in the family equally committed to helping to care for and train the puppy? Assuming that your puppy would be confined to a safe area of your home until housebreaking was complete and chewing was on the wane, would the dog have full run of your home once he/she is mature? (It s perfectly OK if he/she is not allowed freedom of the entire house.) Where would he/she sleep, as a puppy and as an adult? Have you crate trained any previous dogs? If you have never used a crate, do you plan to use one for you next puppy? (I am happy to discuss crate training and to answer any questions/concerns you might have.) What kind of fencing do you have? If you are not fenced how would you ensure your Leonberger s safety?
My sales contract requires buyers to take their puppies to training classes and we strongly encourage continued training until the dog is at least a year old, preferably longer. Training is absolutely essential both as a behavior aid and as a socialization experience. I would like you to select a training facility before your new puppy would come home and would like to have an idea of what training techniques are used. Have you trained a dog previously? If not do you know of a good training facility in your area? In addition to training classes, what would your plan be to socialize a puppy? What kind of activities would your puppy participate in? Do you have children? If yes, what are their ages? If this is your first family dog, how have you taught your children proper behavior around a puppy or dog? If everyone works during the day, do you have a friend, neighbor or family member who can take the puppy outside to potty, exercise and lunch during the day, especially for the first several months? Please detail your plan for the above if applicable: We do not ship puppies as a rule. If you were to adopt one of our puppies, how would you plan to get him/her?
Do you want a male or a female? Why? What is most important to you as far as personality? How good are you at keeping in touch? It is very important to me that my puppy buyers keep in touch with me. This includes asking for advice about absolutely anything, letting me know how things like training are coming along, and sending me pictures. I expect buyers to let me know if they move, and to tell me immediately if for any reason they ever consider giving up the puppy or dog. It is essential that my buyers understand why these things are important to me. Are you interested in showing or breeding your Leonberger? If so, do you have any show or breeding experience? Has your veterinarian had experience with giant dog breeds? (I am always happy to talk with your veterinarian about anything she/he may have questions about.) My puppies are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). I encourage puppy buyers to join the Leonberger Club of America (LCA) in order to be able to take advantage of all the information and activities available to members. A membership application is available on the LCA s website. If you are already an LCA member, please so note: Is there anything else that you would like to know about the breed, anything else you would like to tell me about yourself?
Please feel free to elaborate on any of these questions and to add any information that you feel is pertinent. My concern is for the welfare of my puppies: the more I know about prospective owners, the easier it is for me to select the right homes for my puppies as well as the right puppy for each home. It is very important to me that you feel comfortable with me so that you will find it easy to keep in touch.
