TRAWLMASTER Are my trawl wires marked correctly? Is my trawl spread optimally? Is the trawl on bottom? Trawlmaster is a wireless trawl monitoring system that provides complete trawl geometry. This is one of the most well proven and complete systems available with more than 700 systems delivered and 24 sensors available. Trawlers world over have experienced significant fuel savings coupled with increased catches. Knowing the trawl s geometry allows you to keep the trawl optimal during every tow. Trawl wire lengths provide you with confidence that the trawl doors are in line. In cross current, an adjustment is provided to align the doors. Door spread sensors allow you to tow by spread, not by speed. This is a well proven method to increase catches in heavy current. Upgrades can be made to these basic door sensors, such as door angle, temperature and depth. Back on the trawl, a complete picture can be provided using headline, bottom contact, wingend and catch sensors. A system consists of shipboard equipment (command unit, computer and hydrophone) that communicate wirelessly to sensors on the trawl. A dynamic 3D graphic of your trawl is presented that instantly gives an accurate trawl picture. For optimal doorspread calculations, please go to

DOORSPREAD AND TRAWL WIRE LENGTHS Doorspread is the distance between the doors on a single trawl. On a twin rig and double rig, the spread on EACH net is given. On triple and quad gear, three and four doorpsreads are monitored. Major fuel savings are achieved with doorspread as you can adjust the speed of the vessel to keep the optimal spread. For example, towing just 0.1 knots too fast into a current can overspread the gear by 10 meters. Indicates when your doors have crossed Detects when your door has fallen or is stuck Instantly see if you have a rock, pot or other debris in the trawl. Notus has the only omnidirectional sensors on the market. You will still see doorspread on a turn with one door 100 meters behind the other. Trawl Wire Lengths Accurately measures your trawl wires to within 1/2 meter. Avoids measuring your trawl wires on shore. Indicates the adjustment in cross current to "square" the doors.

DOOR DEPTH, ANGLE AND TEMPERATURE SENSORS Doorspread and trawl wire lengths are standard Trawlmaster sensors. These sensors can be upgraded to include door depth, door angle and temperature. Depth sensors indicate the distance from the surface to the doors/trawl. When mid watering, trawl depth allows you to place the trawl at depth of the fish. When bottom trawling, depth will indicate when the gear is on bottom. Door angle sensors provide the heel angle (inward/outward lean) and pitch angle (upward/downward pitch) Set the trawl doors for optimal spread and optimal fuel consumption Instantly indicates if you shoot too much trawl wire as the door heels over. Indicates when the doors are on bottom. Temperature sensors indicate the temperature wherever the sensor is located. Locate larger schools by trawling in the right temperature range. Determine if you are in the right temperature for the species you are targeting Determine where the fish are

HEADLINE HEIGHT SENSOR Headline height sensors use an echo sounder to indicate the distance from the headline to the seafloor. An optional footgear clearance sensor can be added for midwater trawling which will also calculate the opening of the net and the footgear clearance. Allows you to raise and lower the headline depending on species and trawling conditions. If you see fish at 5 meters off bottom, your trawl should have a 5 meter opening. Indicates when your trawl is on bottom. Indicates if currents are raising the trawl off the bottom. This can occur when towing too fast against a strong current.

SPECIFICATIONS Headline Height Distance Range: Up to 2000 meters Minimum Height: 0.5 meters Maximum Height: 100 meters Accuracy: +/ 0.5 meters Resolution: +/ 0.1 meters Weight: 2.68 kg in water Deployable Depth: 1400 m Footline Slave Sensor Accuracy: +/ 0.5 meters Minimum Height: 0.5 meters Maximum Opening: 100 meters Resolution: +/ 0.1 For videos, photos, brochures, trawl tools and more, please go to www.notus.ca Notus Electronics Ltd 391 Empire Ave St. John's, NL, A1E 1W6 Canada Tel: + 1 709 753 0652 Fax: + 1 709 753 0651 notus@notus.ca www.notus.ca Notus Maritima S.L. CATCH SENSOR Catch sensors indicate when the cod-end has a set amount of fish. Multiple sensors can be used to indicate different amounts of fish. For example, one sensor can be set at ½ the optimal catch to indicate that the trawl is fishing. A second sensor can be used to indicate the optimal amount has been caught and it is time to take back the trawl. Only take back what you can handle onboard. Prevents hauling back a trawl that is only half full. Provides a better indication of exactly where the fish are in the tow. Has a built in gear location feature should you lose the trawl or just the cod-end. Improves fish quality. Prevents gear damage associated with over-filling the net.

SPECIFICATIONS Sensors Range: Up to 2000 meters Range Accuracy: +/ 0.5 meters Range Resolution: +/ 0.1 meters Weight: 2.0 kg in water Deployable Depth: 1400 m For videos, photos, brochures, trawl tools and more, please go to www.notus.ca Notus Electronics Ltd 391 Empire Ave St. John's, NL, A1E 1W6 Canada Tel: + 1 709 753 0652 Fax: + 1 709 753 0651 notus@notus.ca www.notus.ca Notus Maritima S.L. GRID SENSOR Grid sensors indicate angle of the sorting grid. A necessity on any grid exclusion device. If your grid is not at the right angle, nothing goes to the cod-end. Indicates if your grid is blocked. Estimate fish volume in the codend, as the grid angle tends to change with volume. Instantly see if the grid is incorrectly rigged.

BOTTOM CONTACT SENSOR Bottom contact sensors indicate if the trawl is on bottom using angle measurements. The sensor is attached to the fishing line and remains horizontal when the trawl is on bottom. The sensor orientates in a vertical position when the trawl comes off bottom. Fishing is greatly reduced once your trawl comes off bottom. Indicates if your speed into the current is taking the trawl off bottom. If you do not shoot enough trawl wire, the trawl will not be on bottom. Overspreading the trawl doors can also result in the trawl coming off bottom.

TRAWL ALIGNMENT SENSOR The Trawl Alignment Sensor provides the alignment and adjustment behind the doors. The Trawl Alignment Sensor installs on the middle of the headline and communicates to sensors on the doors. For current customers, this means that no additional door sensors are needed. As Notus sensors are omnidirectional (360 ) one sensor on the headline can communicate to sensors on the doors without being aligned perfectly. The following distances are calculated: from the starboard door to the center of the headline and from the port door to the center of the headline. Subtracting these two distances provides an adjustment to align the trawl. In addition, the trawl angles are calculated. When currents push the trawl to one side, there may be an adjustment needed to align the wing ends. The Trawl Alignment Sensor provides this adjustment. This is also critical information when turning to ascertain the shape of the net. Trawl angles are important in ensuring the gear is rigged correctly to provide the proper herding effect for the fish.
