NEWSLETTER v Upcoming Adoption Events Chapel Hill Saturday May 3: Chatham Animal Rescue and Education 1pm-4pm Saturday May 10: Great Pyrenees Rescue Time TBD Saturday May 17: Paws4Ever 11am-2pm Raleigh Saturday May 3: Pawfect Match Rescue 12pm-2pm Saturday May 17: Triangle Greyhound Society 11am-3pm May 2014 Letter from the Editor By Valerie Mendyka Hello friends of Phydeaux! Since our last newsletter, Phydeaux participated in a kibble drop with Natura. On March 26, thirteen rescues from the Triangle and beyond met us at Phydeaux Raleigh where an 18-wheeler met us with pallets of pet food. Natura generously presented somewhere between 1,900 to 3,700 pounds of food to each group, helping to feed to the animals in their respective programs for several months. In total, approximately 13,000 pounds of food went to feed local dogs and cats in need. The event was a huge success and we are thrilled to have participated. You can find pictures of the Natura Kibble Drop on our Facebook page. This month, Phydeaux is running a promotion on the entire Halo Dog and Cat food lines. If you are not familiar with Halo Pet Food; like all of the other pet foods Phydeaux stocks, Halo does not use any wheat, corn, soy, artificial colors, flavors, or by-products in their formulas. However, Halo also does not use any meals in any of their dry formulas, making it a fresh meat diet. For the entire month of May, come to either Phydeaux location to receive the following discounts on all Halo Pet Food: - $2 off all Small bags (Cat 3 lb. and 6 lb. bags, Dog 4 lb. bags) - $3 off all Medium bags (Cat 11.5 lb. bags, Dog 10 lb., 14 lb., and 15 lb. bags) - $5 off all Large bags (Dog 18 lb. and 28 lb. bags) - 10% off all canned foods

Letter from the Editor (continued) For those of you who take advantage of the Champion Pet Food Frequent Buyer Program at Phydeaux; please note that it has changed slightly. For those of you who always feed the same formula, the change will not affect you. For those who rotate the formulas; there is a small change. Previously, after the purchase of the twelfth bag, we were offering to you a free bag in any of the Champion formulas available in that bag size. Now, we will only be able to offer to you the least expensive bag purchased in that size as your free bag. This change comes straight from Champion Pet Foods. In order to continue to offer these programs we must abide by the manufacturers rules. We thank you for your understanding. In conclusion, we have some cool stuff arriving at both Phydeaux locations! Check out the New Stuff at Phydeaux portion of this newsletter to learn more about some of these neat products! Also, if there is anything you would like to see on our shelves that we do not currently have, please feel free to pass the suggestion on to one of our employees! Please read on and enjoy the rest of the newsletter! Sincerely, Valerie Mendyka *Note: If you have any pet related questions or issues, please email them to the editor: valerie@phydeauxpets.com

ANTONIO Employee Profile How long have you been working at Phydeaux? About six months. What do you enjoy most about working here? See above. Reading, writing, listening to music. Raleigh Having the opportunity to learn about a new field (pet nutrition and holistic pet foods) and being paid to play with animals. What is the most challenging part of your job? Answering customers questions about our products, which range from complicated to bizarre ( Do you sell kangaroo diapers? ) What kinds of furry friends do you have at home? None at the moment, though my family is looking into getting a new pet. What are your favorite products to give to your pets? What are some of your favorite activities to do outside of work? If you could be any animal, real or fictional, what would you be? Grendel from Beowulf.

Pet Profile Featured Pet NEKO Jenny s Cat How did you come to live with your owner? I was plucked from a farm in Grand Rapids, Michigan when I was a kitten. My owners originally thought I was a girl. I ve never been able to get over it. What would you consider to be your best feature? My big, beautiful green eyes and my insatiable ability to get comfortable and cozy on a lap. No matter how much (or little) room you leave, I will make it work. Do you have any nicknames? Stinko, Neekie, Nunco, the list goes on. I don t understand any of them though. Do you have any special talents? I ve gotten very good at bolting out the front door while my owners frantically run after me. They are way too stressed out about me getting outside. I m real tough! What s your favorite pastime? Chatting with the birds outside, bullying my bunny brother, eating flowers, and a good back scratch. Anything else you would like us to know about yourself? I m extremely tough and nothing ever scares me. Except the mail man. Or when you wear a hat. Or when you do your hair different. I don t like change, ok?

FEATURED PRODUCT See What s New! KOA Collars Brought to you by: Dublin Dog products are best known for their Original All Style, No Stink dog collars. The owner, Jason Watson, grew up in Hawaii and always wore a watch that was made of materials that would hold up to the obstacles of his everyday life and surrounding terrain, and yet would remain strong and functional. While on a weekend getaway with his two dogs, he glanced down at his pooches, and realized the wear and tear their collars had endured. After comparing his watch to his dogs collars, he realized the potential market for collars made of materials that could withstand the elements and still remain practical and stink-free, especially since they spent a lot of time in and near the water. Watson was inspired by his Irish roots and innovative idea, and hence, Dublin Dog was born! Phydeaux has carried Dublin Dog for several years, as they are a unique and practical product that can only be found at independent retailers. Dublin Dog s original line is appealing to folks who have dogs who like to swim or spend a lot of times outdoors, because they do not retain odors due to the polymer material used to make these collars. The New KOA Line of collars from Dublin Dog not only retain the no stink and waterproof qualities the company s original collars are known for, but also have some other desirable features. They are thinner and more lightweight therefore making them more suitable for a wider range of dogs. They also feature a special UV inhibitor that will prevent the collars from fading or yellowing. Additionally, they are come not only available in super reflective solid colors, but also in stunning, colorful varieties that mimic naturally occurring patterns such as the skins of various fish (Rainbow and Brook Trout, Snapper, Blue Marlin, etc.) as well as other options. Phydeaux stocks a plethora of varieties of both the Original and KOA collars. Dublin Dog Original No Stink Collars Dublin Dog KOA No Stink Collars Dublin Dog s headquarters is located right here in North Carolina! All of their products are manufactured in the United States and their warehouse is located just a few hours away in Charlotte. Not only are they a North Carolina company, but they also provide a Recycle & Re-Gift program; allowing customers to send back their used Dublin Dog collars to the warehouse to either be recycled and made into new collars or to be donated to a dog in need at a shelter or foster home. If you would like to learn more about Dublin Dog or to see their full line of products visit www.dublindog.com for more information. You can also drop by either Phydeaux location to see what we have available!

A Worthy Cause Featured Pet Organization of the Month Safe Haven For Cats Founded in 1994, Raleigh s Safe Haven for Cats has been just that and more. Operating as one of the Triangle s few no-kill shelters, Safe Haven has helped 6,000 cats and kittens find their forever homes over the last twenty years. In addition to their adoption endeavors, Safe Haven for Cats helps to reduce pet overpopulation by offering a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. Since its inception, the program has performed nearly 17,000 surgeries. In an effort to maximize their impact with minimal funds, Safe Haven employs a small staff and relies on the kindness of its strong volunteer network. Volunteers assist by performing outreach in the community; most commonly by assisting with meet-and-greets where prospective adopters can meet felines looking for homes. If you would like to donate items to Safe Haven for Cats please visit their donation bin at Phydeaux Raleigh. To make a financial contribution or to donate your time, or to learn more about the group s efforts in feline rescue, please visit safehavenforcats.org for more information.
