REPORT FOR SATURDAY 12TH MAY Store Cattle An excellent trade again with the top 10 prices realising over 1200 and topping at 1280, for a 25 month Limousin from C Clarke Farms. Other top prices to mention, James Griffin Farming who topped at 1230 for a 17 month Simmental steer. Cows with Calves, just one forward this week from Smith & Smith, a 10 year old Blonde cow with a Lincoln Red bull calf at foot, topping at 1460. As usual, after the breeding cattle, younger and smaller stores came through the ring first. Treharne & Sons topped at 620 for a 7 month Limousin steer, and a smaller Limousin steer the same age made 450; 4 Devon heifers, 13 months, from RJH Purser topped at 450; FK Harris entered a 5 month Hereford, which sold to 415; Danny Evans entered a 20 month Blonde heifer, which sold to 310; an entry of 5 Aberdeen Angus heifers, 9 months, sold to 510; Nigel & Monica Russell topped at 775 for a 14 month, named sire, Hereford steer, their named sire Aberdeen Angus sold to 740, and their heifers sold to 710; and TN Thomson sold two Aberdeen Angus steers to 880 and a 41 month Montbeliarde heifer to 840. RA Wilmott sold a bunch of yearling Charolais steers to 1010; RJ Burton & Son topped at 1080 for a bunch of 5 Continental steers, 20 months; Mrs FM Belcher entered 4 yearling Limousins, the steers sold to 1000 and heifers to 760; David Self topped at 1040 for his 21 month Limousin heifer; Greensons Limousins entered two smart Limousin heifers, 10-12 months, which sold to 990; JF Fountain & Son entered some pure bred Charolais steers and heifers, 4-8 months, which sold to 510 for two stronger heifers and 440 for a single steer; Merrick & Julie Pinny topped at 1030 for a 13 month Aberdeen Angus steer, out of a Blue cow; Charles Helliwell topped at 870 for Limousin steers, 9-13 months, with two younger ones at 850; Linsey Burton entered 2 Limousin steers, 13 months, which sold to 965 and her Aberdeen Angus heifer sold to 950; JP Watts entered his usual quality Limousins, topping at 1180 for a 20 month steer, 1075 for 3 others, and a bunch of 6 sold to 1030; John Kendall entered 3 Charolais steers, 14-16 months, which sold to 1020, and 2 Limousin heifers which sold to 850.
Overall, another trade as good, if not better, than many centres around the Country, with new buyers seen in attendance, but left open mouthed at the trade, and they didn t even open up to start bidding. Calves A lovely entry of some nice weaned calves from Tom Addison topped at 500 for 3 British Blue steers, 4 months, another 4 similar sorts sold to 475, 3 month Hereford steers sold to 325, and 3-4 month Simmental heifers sold to 380. A strong trade and more are required each week. Store & Breeding Sheep - 274 Sold A fantastic entry of ewes and hoggs with lambs this week, with a significant lift in trade, as grass continues to grow in the good weather. Today's sale highlights were two fantastic runs of Mule hoggs with lambs from Richard Haynes and Andrew Geary. Richard's entry, all with Charollais and Beltex lambs at foot, topped at 90 per life or 180 per outfit for singles, with twins from the same home also selling to 90 per life, or a staggering 270 per outfit. Andrew Geary's entry topped at 87 per life for singles with Suffolk lambs, with others from the same home at 80, with Suffolk and Texel lambs, while twin outfits from Andrew with Texel and Suffolk lambs sold to 67. 2 and 3 crop Suffolk ewes with 1.8 Texel lambs from Jamie Whatton, sold to 71 per life; with similar age ewes with single Charollais lambs selling to 70 from Michel Browning; and young Suffolk x Scotch Half Bred ewes with Continental twins sold to 68 for Rob Paton.
