Autumn Adventures 2013 Counselor s Corner KIDS BUILDING BRIDGES Breakfast is important. I eat it every day. It gives me lots of energy To think, and work, and play! Teaching kids to help others at a young age can change little hearts in big ways. This year s character education program, Kids Building Bridges is designed to help motivate kids to help others who are less fortunate. Kids Building Bridges is intended to instill an attitude that charity should be more than an occasional occurrence. Our desire is to create a spirit of giving that will become a way of life for our students and inspire them to make positive connections with family, friends, their school, community, and the world at large. Please encourage your children to build bridges of kindness and generosity through various acts of community service. We will proudly display our good deeds on our Character Education bulletin boards throughout the year, and celebrate PATRIOT PRIDE. Ms. Bisogna Providing your children with a nutritious breakfast daily is an excellent way to get them off to a great start. Their attitudes will be more positive, and their brains will be fueled up for all that the day will bring. They will be more alert and ready to complete the tasks with which they are presented. Some other important habits for school success : getting a good night s sleep; attending school every day unless the child is ill; having a system to organize school-to-home communications (such as homework assignments, special projects and events); establishing a rapport with your child s teachers; not overwhelming them with extracurricular activities. Setting up a large calendar with everything that each family member has coming up is an excellent way to stay organized, and to evaluate what may need to be eliminated to make life less stressful. At this point in the school year, you most likely have many of these routines in place. Hopefully, I ve given you some additional pragmatic tidbits. Please check out my eboard occasionally for other relevant information. Good luck! Miss DiNardo School Counselor
Happy Fall! Mrs. Memoli s classes celebrated Fall while playing games during their festival. Here they are pictured using an autumn colored table cloth as a trampoline to toss fall leaves in the air. Students in Mrs. McGotty s class created an Indian Village with different habitats of the Native American Indians. Run, run, Can you catch me? Playing shadow tag and trying to out run our shadows was another highlight of at our Fall Festival. We ended out festival munching with fall foods. The apples, grapes and applesauce were delicious. YUMMY!

After reading about the love, loyalty and bond shared among a boy and his dogs in the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, Mrs. LaBarca and Mrs. Fairweather-Hayes' class decided to learn more about the animals and dogs at the Associated Humane Society's Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River, NJ. Students were introduced to the Animal Haven at the Popcorn Park Zoo via ahscares.org. The Animal Haven is a wonderful environment and home for dogs who have been brought to the zoo after being rescued. Some of the dogs at the Animal Haven have challenges that prevent them from being adopted. Unfortunately, some have suffered abuse from previous owners and have uneasy dispositions. The Animal Haven cares for these dogs as well as others who are able to be adopted. The facility runs solely on donations from the caring public. We wanted to help in some way. We decided to sponsor Telly. Telly is a mixed breed who was found as a stray in Newark, NJ. He was malnourished and poorly cared for by his owners. He befriended another poorly treated dog, Tez, who had been attached by a leash to a dilapidated porch surrounded by trash. Telly would bring toys to Tez and play with him on the porch. The Associated Humane Society rescued Telly and attempted to rescue Tez, but Tez's owners refused to let the AHS take him. Telly, however, was taken to the Animal Haven. Shortly after we decided to sponsor Telly, we learned that he had been adopted!!! Our donation is now benefiting all of the dogs at the Animal Haven. If you are interested in donating to the Popcorn Park Zoo or adopting an animal go to AHSCARES.ORG.
