Page 2 Letter from the President Dear COS members, How time flies. It s hard to believe that almost two years have elapsed since I became president of the COS. My primary goals have been to strengthen the membership and to bring new voices and ideas to the day-to-day workings of the club. I ve been reminded on a regular basis that the strength of this club lies in its members. In that regard, I d like to thank both the newer members that have stepped into leadership roles, and the seasoned members that have long been the backbone of the Cavaliers of the South for their continued support. We are very fortunate to have all of these hard working volunteers that have been very generous with their time. We ve continued to work and update our website, www.cavaliersofthesou th.org. New material and pictures are always welcome. Please refer to this site often to keep up to date with events such as fun matches, point shows and health clinics and to view historic copies of this newsletter The Southern Cavalier. Another primary purpose of this website is to help bring our new cavalier puppy owners into this great club. We have set up a mentor section on the website where puppy owners can request a mentor in an area of interest, such as conformation, therapy, grooming, or any number of cavalier activities. There is also a new member handbook (and a link) to which you can send to all of your new puppy owners. This handbook introduces our club to new members and explains how they can get involved. Be sure to send this link to all of your new puppy owners so that they can learn first hand the benefits of being a member of the Cavaliers Of The South. Looking down the road we have some exciting new show venues coming up at the end of the year and the first of next year. Our Florida members represent one of the largest member counts in the COS. In support of them, we have decided to bring our winter show down to sunny Orlando, December 8-11. We re planning some great activities at this show, which will lead right into Eukanuba, to be held less than a mile away from our hotel. This promises to be an outstanding show and hopefully many will show their support for this new venue. See you at the shows, Dr. Kevin Cline President, Cavaliers Of The South

Fun Match Chattanooga - December 2015 Spring 2016 Thank you to the Cavaliers of the South for asking me to judge the Fun Match in conjunction with the Chattanooga Winter Specialty. I was very lucky to have very nice dogs and puppies to go over and I was honored the exhibitors allowed me to do so. Every dog was presented in tip-top condition and I hope this fun warm-up and ring-time before the three-day show, was of benefit to exhibitors and their lovely Cavaliers. A special note of thanks to Howard Bales and Linda Whitmire for making things run smoothly, to Pat Lander for her oversight and mentoring and to Cheryl Stough for being my Ring Steward and capturing the event in photos. - Judge Mimi Hodges (Mimric US) JUNIOR PUPPY DOG (3): 1) Woodsong Delta Blues (Kaiser, Crancer)- A larger and balanced 7 month old. Very dark eyes and eye pigment with a good top line who held it on the move. A little unsettled coming and going away but who flowed smoothly around the ring. Winners Dog, Best Puppy Dog 2) Brookhaven the Dream Lives On (Utych, Utych)- A very typey young boy who has a pretty profile. A correct tail set, which he held nicely on the move. Adorable sweet expression. Just barely 6 months he was already at one with his handler. Reserve Winners Dog 3) Woodsong Big Easy (Nel)-Another 7 month old blenheim with deep rich red color. This boy has a nice turn of stifle and moved true behind. A little longer in the loin and not quite the headpiece at this time as 1 and 2. SPECIAL EXHIBIT DOG (1): Closeburn Graham Macinnes (Trad)- A big thank you for letting me go over this 10 ½ year old ruby veteran. I have enjoyed watching him over the years. A moderate overall cavalier with big round eyes. Rich rich red coat with long ear feathers. JR PUPPY BITCH (1): Tudorr La Dolce Vita Angela (Mixon)- A nicely broken puppy with a beautiful and well cushioned headpiece. Just a baby of 5 months, she stacked four-square with a level topline and croup while stacked SR PUPPY BITCH (2): 1) Harana Calypso Rose (Gentil)- A true toy ruby spaniel with a lovely head, round eyes and a correct earset framing her sweet face. A level topline and nice tailset which came straight of her back when on the move. Nice bone and coat in good condition and a beautiful rich dark red. I was happy to award her with: Best In Fun Match, Winners Bitch, Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Match 2) Nightingale Voodoo Queen of Riverview (Barrios)-A lovely headpiece on this blenheim girl, well cushioned muzzle and a melting round dark eye. In nice condition with deep red coat. Preferred the rear movement and croup of 1. Page 8

Fun Match Chattanooga- December 2015 AMERICAN BRED BITCH (1): 1) ChadwickBizet (Greak)- A tidy cobby little tricolor with nice spring of ribs. Well broken which is hard to find in a tri, with long gorgeous ears. Perfect topline when stacked and on the move. You could tell she was having a good time in the ring with her owner. SPECIAL EXHIBIT BITCH (1): 1) Blue Garden Exclusive (Matos)- I have been lucky to judge this girl at an earlier age. Still a teenager, she has a lovely outline, graceful neck flowing into a correctly angled shoulder. Level topline and croup. Moves gracefully and has a very pretty expression with beautiful round eyes. Page 9
