University of Missouri Extension Cape Girardeau County 684 W. Jackson Trail Jackson, MO. 63755 573-243-3581 November 1, 2012 TO: Prospective Buyers and Guests: Welcome to the fourteen Southeast Missouri Show-Me-Select Spring Calving Replacement Heifer Sale. The Dec 2011 Sale sold 127 heifers for an average of $1716 and Tier II A.I. heifers at $1950. The May 2012 Sale averaged $2170 on 157 heifers. The preg checks were started in late June and the open heifers from some of these herds were placed on feed and have already gone to market as finished cattle. There have been some $2000 plus heifers at U.S. Premium Beef and they have averaged $1650 on finished heifers. The 135 heifers in this sale were started from 645 heifers that we have individually sifted and sorted. The breeding work is already done and some will start calving in 2 months. Guaranteed bred heifers, and not having to feed and take care of the heifer that did not breed is worth about $250 - $430 per heifer to you. Remember, those heifers are guaranteed bred for 30 days after you buy them. Contact the consignor before 30 days if you suspect one is open. The genetics on most of these heifers is excellent with 6-7 generations of stacked pedigrees in several of the herds. Also some have been sending cattle to U.S. Premium Beef for processing and have carcass data on steer mates to the heifers. If you as a producer are wanting to develop a herd, 20 years of selections are already done on some of the consignments. The majority of these pregnancies have been fetal sexed. There are 109 black, 18 F, 7 red and 1 RWF heifer in the sale. There are 7 Registered Angus and 13 Registered Simmentals. There are also 40 Tier 2 Heifers in the sale. 58% are A.I. bred. There are three regions of the State in this sale. We have our top herds back, and also Crooks Farms from near Kansas City is back and was the top selling average consignment in the December 2011 Sale. Consignors are listed in alphabetical order so the sale order will be different. The catalog has footnotes for your use. I have also included accuracy on the EPD s and also Carcass and Scrotal EPD s on AI sires. Remember, the higher the accuracy towards.90 or above the more reliable the data is in selection. Thanks for attending the Sale, or just studying the catalog. If you have questions feel free to call me 573-243-3581, look at our website: semobeef.com, or call the consignor at the number listed. Sincerely, Roger Eakins Livestock Specialist University of Missouri, Lincoln University, U.S. Department of Agriculture & Local University Extension Councils Cooperation University Outreach and Extension does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age disability or status as a Vietnam-era veteran in employment of programs 2

General Information Auctioneer Ken Carney Sale Agent Fruitland Livestock Auction, Inc. The sale order was determined by consignors drawing for a position in the rotation. Each consignor selected those heifers to sell in each rotation. Heifers will be sold in uniform lots sorted according to breed type, size and those selling together are expected to calve in a 45 day period. Heifers become the property of the purchaser immediately after the sale. Each animal will be at the purchaser s risk as soon as sold. The seller will aid in the loading of the cattle on instructions from the buyer, but at the buyer s risk. No cattle will be loaded until the conclusion of the sale. All fees will be collected by the Fruitland Livestock Auction, Inc. and are to be settled before loading. GUARANTEE All heifers are guaranteed bred and are guaranteed to remain pregnant for 30 days after the sale. Due dates are approximate. Females can range two weeks or more around due date even if they were AI bred. Heifers were pasture exposed to bulls after A.I.. Rectal Palpation for pregnancy is subjective and not exact because all cows vary in fetal development. A.I. pregnancies are not guaranteed but highly probable. Gestation length is based on average of 283 and can come very early or very late. Any heifer found open (by an accredited veterinarian) will be returned to the consignor and the money will be refunded by the consignor. Heifers are guaranteed against genetic defects on first calf only if inspected and documented by a veterinarian. All guarantees are made by the consignor of the cattle, not the sale committee or the SEMO Cattlemen s Association. TAGS All heifers in the sale are identified by a special tag that carries the "Show-Me-Select" trademark and name. This tag indicates that the heifers have met all of the requirements of the Missouri "Show-Me-Select" program. CONTRIBUTORS The sale committee and consignors wish to thank all those who have contributed to the success of this program. Your faith in our ability to make this program work is appreciated. SEMO Cattlemen s Association State Show-Me-Select Heifer Board Missouri Cattlemen s Association Fruitland Livestock Auction College of Veterinary Medicine Missouri Dept. of Agriculture University of Missouri Extension University of Mo.
