March 2010 Suggestions Needed On 2011 Banquet s Location... In the past, we have had great luck with Alioto s. The food was great every time, they offer easy dining, and we ve worked our way up to the nicer banquet room which has enough space for our awards and raffle. Because they know our routine, it makes booking easy. But, I know some people would like a change of scenery, so if anyone wants to suggest other places to have the banquet, please let me know before April 2010. (jwendt88@hotmail.com) This is so I have time to check the venue and prices and present the options to the board. I usually book in July/ August for the January Banquet. Respectfully submitted, 920-674-9623 Official newsletter of the Greater Milwaukee Brittany Club www.gmbcbrittanyclub.com The Object & purpose of the GMBC is: To promote cooperation & friendship among breeders & owners of Brittany dogs. (NO FOOLING) All those who finished a show or field trial title on a dog in 2009 should send a photo of the dog to Debbie Lewandowski by either snail -mail or by email to (lewandowski_debbie @yahoo.com) If you have a photo on file with the ABC magazine, let me know and I will tell the editor to use American Brittany Club Recognition Ad For 2009 the file photo. I already have the full name of the dogs & owners from the awards banquet. But, now I will need the photos. Also, please let me know if your dog has any special brags such as Futurity Placements, Hour Championship Placements, Specialty, National Specialty, Summer Specialty Placements, or Award of Merit, etc. If you re not sure if it qualifies, let me know what he/she did and I will then check with GMBC s Board to see if it meets the ad requirements. If you would like to list any dogs names in the In Memoriam section, send me the registered name with titles, and owner. Dogs eligible for this section must have passed away in the year 2009 and have been eligible to be recognized in some fashion while they were living. (example title in show, field, obedience, agility, etc. Date of birth & death can be included. As it is, it will be several months after the deadline that the ad will actually appear in the magazine. Each year, I have had to contact individuals separately and drag this info from them for the dogs that I know should be recognized but haven t responded. I will not do that any more. If you want the recognition, then it will be up to you to get the info to me. Questions? Contact 262-679-1057. Thank you, Debbie L.
Tom & Debbie s Road Trip... Driveway to driveway it was 51 hours and 31 minutes driving time, covering 2,812 miles over Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. We were at the Blue Bonnet BC trial and Central Futurity, at Hubbard Texas, (a side trip to Houston), and then, on the way home, the Prairie State Brittany Trial in Grove Spring, MO. Grounds at Hubbard covered about 1,100 acres. The temperature went from 30's to 70's for the weekend trial. For the Futurity, temperatures on Tuesday were in the low 30's with snow. Plenty of bird contact for our dogs inspite of the 70's on Sunday. Tom got to fire his gun ten times at the Blue Bonnet trial, three times at the Central Futurity and once at the Prairie State, Bill Schreiber Memorial Derby Classic. It was an enjoyable trip and well worth going. Oh yeah, we had some placements too: April 1st Deadline for ABC Recognition Ad For 2009 Blue Bonnet trial Amateur Gun Dog 2nd went to our Ecko and 3rd went to Rod Larson's Buzz that Tom handled. Amateur All Age Skeeter placed 4th for his first adult placement. Central All Age Futurity, Skeeter had three finds and placed 4th. Then on the way home at Prairie State, Skeeter was the runner-up in the Derby. We are looking forward to our Eastern Futurity trip to New York at the end of April. Meeting called to order by President Paul Dietrich at 7:05pm Present at this meeting, Laura Van Slyke, Marcellus Cieslik, Paul Dietrich, Dan Brya, Bob Justus, Frank Nobile, John Calandra, Scott Goebel, Mark Hackler, Brian White, Tim Thomas, Debbie Salmons, Liz Farwell, Wayne Wilkinson, Chuck Spinelli, Debbie Lewandowski, Earl Thomas, John Stoller, Richard Pyka, Roger Davis, Marty Johnson, Roy Ames. Minutes of the last meeting were read; they were accepted with the following correction: event fee to remain at $25.00. Treasurer report: Beginning Balance (as of 8-6-09) $5,858.06 Balance (as of 11-30-09) $2,472.39 Deposit $1,530.07 Ending Balance (as of 1-5-10) $4,002.46 DNR Report: Here are some of the items that the Bong Recreation Area DNR has submitted. They have taken a count of the people using the grounds for dog training and have reached a figure of nearly 1,000. People with dog training permits may go on to the runway area. However, any other person must stay in the designated parking lots. If you, as a trainer with the permit, have someone helping you and they do not have a permit, they cannot take their vehicle onto the runway. Training is when you are using live birds and live ammunition. If there are barricades placed on any roadway, do not drive past it; not even for a short distance. All event Chairs must call the DNR office (262-878-5600) or make a personal appearance by the Tuesday before the event to do the following: state the number of dogs, people, cars, time of daily grounds use, (as an Example Fri. 7 am to 7 pm ) and show exactly how much area you will need for the event. In a medical emergency, call 911 on any cell phone. Try to give a description of the emergency and your location on the grounds. Then, call the office (262-878-5600) to tell them what is going on. In order to bypass the two minute message, press 0. Let the DNR Ranger settle any disagreements that you may have with other people using the grounds. If you need to use the Pavilion, you must make a request at the time you submit your application for that event. Remove all training aids, dead birds and garbage from the grounds on a daily basis. During an event, check with the office regarding any object/s that you wish to leave on the grounds. Directional signs placed on the grounds leading to your event will be very helpful. If your club has more than one event planned for the year, fill out the yellow form. All clubs must submit insurance certificates as per the flyer that was handed out by the DNR at the January 14, 2010 meeting. ATV trail #1 is scheduled to be re-opened in June 2010. Trail #2 is not complete. The money ran out. Marty Johnson reports that he has some work days scheduled. The first being Jan. 30, 2010 from 1:00pm to?. A youth Learn to Hunt Pheasants will be held March 20, 2010. Anyone interested in helping out with their dogs and expertise will be appreciated. Burning of the special use zones and the bowl will be scheduled later this year. New business: Dates were assigned. See attached list. A new slate of officers was elected: President: Chuck Spinelli Vice-President: Roger Davis Treasurer: Roy Ames Secretary: Marcellus Cieslik Next meeting: March 9, 2010 7:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Marcellus Cieslik Secretary Bong F.T.
