Brought to you by the Newfoundland Club of Northern California With the arrival of summer, competition with our dogs has been a little quiet this past month. However, that won t last for long! (See elsewhere in the Newfs Paper for show results.) Grace (Debbie & Todd Bridge) earned an Owner Handled BOB and an Owner Handled group placement (OHG3); Mackenzie (Patrick Benshoof & Lisa Lee) took an Owner Handled BOB. Congratulations to all! Calendar Guests are welcome at general meetings and all other events! Mock Water Test Saturday August 12, 2017 Lake Berryessa, Coyote Beach contact Cathy Sayre and Connie Andronico The Annual NCNC Picnic and Meeting on June 24 was a big success! Being right on the bay, the weather was excellent for people and dogs! The large Sea Gull picnic area at the San Leandro Marina Park provided lots of room for delicious BBQ food & drink, socializing, and various Newfy games and activities. These included a Rescue Parade, a Rally course and the ever popular Newf limbo competition. Everyone seemed to have a great time. (I did.) Thank you Patrick Benshoof, Lisa Lee and the other

This time of year, the NCNC Treasurer and Board develop a club budget for the next year. As part of this process, Treasurer Hazel Jacoby contacts current committee Chairs and requests their input for next year s budget. She also asks whether the current committee chairs are willing to serve again next year. Hazel is again starting this process. This year, the Board decided to try something new. We are asking General members whether they are interested in becoming committee chairs either next year or in the future. As usual, current Chairs are also asked whether they would like to continue. We would also like to start a process for mentoring potential future committee members and chairs. The hope is to foster more active participation by club members, and provide a deeper understanding about the operations of NCNC. Recall, also, that all club members can participate on committees, but only General members can chair committees. More information is available elsewhere in the Newfs Paper. NCNC will hold a Mock Water Test (Fun Match) on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Coyote Beach at Lake Berryessa. Run-throughs will be provided for WD, WRD, and WRDX. Cost is $25.00 per handler/dog (check to NCNC, please). Registration starts at 7:30 am, judging starts at 8:00 am. For more information, see the NCNC website or contact Cathy Sayre at bensayre1@att.net or Connie Andronico at conandronico@gmail.com. I hope to see you there

Please contact Lori Littleford (Chair) if you want to help, or contact John Pearson (Chief Steward) if you are interested in stewarding. It always takes a village to put on one of these events. Stewards Needed for September Water Test We will need a large group of stewards for the September Water Test, which is scheduled for September 9 & 10, 2017, at Folsom Lake. Of course, experienced stewards are very welcome, but you need not have any previous experience to help! New people will be teamed with experienced people. Stewarding is a great way for new people to learn about water work, and stewarding is also the best seat in the house! If you are interested in stewarding, please contact John Pearson (waterdog@ix.netcom.com) and tell me a little about yourself (e.g. any previous experience, or not; any preferences for assignments; have you called for any dogs this year in practice; are you planning to also enter a dog?). Treasurer's Tips A new version of the NCNC Financial Policies and Procedures document has been posted in the members area of the website. The document has been reorganized to, hopefully, make it easier to find specific information. This version was approved at the NCNC Board meeting on June 24, 2017. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please contact the Treasurer at treasurer@ncnc.org. Note: Please remember NCNC is a 501(c)(4) organization, per the IRS. We are a not for profit organization, which means donations are not tax deductible. However, donations are very welcome to support our activities and help us remain within budget. Any other New Business? Hazel- Committee chairs are normally asked if they want to continue as chair. The proposal is that an article be put in the Newfs Paper asking for volunteers to be Chair. Current chairs are welcome to volunteer again. The article will be placed in both the August and September Newfs Papers, will be reviewed by the Board before publication, and will have a deadline. The budget letter to the current chairs will include information about this process. An additional suggestion was that someone could volunteer to be mentored for the chair position as preparation for being the chair in the future. The NCNC Board will select Chairs at the September Board meeting. Propose an article to be sent out about all committee positions asking for new volunteers to be chair. This will make people more aware of the positions. Chairs elections to be made by September. If more than one person wants to be a chair board will elect the chair. Send out to current committee chairs by August and give a deadline to respond back by. Add a definite process to select committee members. Hazel to put together and send to the board to review.
