HOT DOG NEWSLETTER Help NST&ODC is a volunteer organisation and always needs your help to make the club run smoothly. I hope you all had a great holiday with your family and friends and are as eager as I am for the year ahead. Last year was very enjoyable with lots of new events such as our dog survival challenge as well as our normal club activities. At the AGM in November the club ended the year in a sound position both with classes and financially. Each discipline is increasing in size of classes which is great to see. Last year our club celebrated 40 years of service to the community. Our celebration was a success with plenty of people attending including our city s ward councilors and the member for Carine. I hope all of you who attended enjoyed themselves as much as I did. And I hope to be around for another forty years! 1

Hopefully this year too will see the highly anticipated hall finished. New builders have been appointed and I believe they are scheduled to start in mid - January so expect to see continuing changes. Completion expected at the end of July. I am looking forward to the year, the committee will be hard at work representing the club and providing good and efficient management. We plan to continue providing fun events for you and your dog. Dogs enjoy being around you. Plenty of toys and long walks for you and your dog leads to a healthy life for both of you. See you all at training. Paul Remember class times change for April 2017 At the beginning of the year (February and March), training runs from 8:00am to 9:00am for puppies and junior classes 1A through 1E, and 9:30am to 10:30am for advanced classes 2A and above. For the rest of the year (April through December), training runs from 9am to 10am for junior classes 1A through 1E, and 10:30am to 11:30am for advanced classes 2A and above. 2

From the Editor Hi Everyone and Welcome back to a new year of training. 2017 has made a strong start and we would like to welcome all our new members. This year we have two club competitions planned - the first one is on the 9th April during the regular training time. These are great fun for everyone and we d like to see you all involved. Remember to check out the club website and Facebook pages for extra information and downloads. And although I sound like a broken record (for those of you old enough to remember what one sounds like) we ALWAYS are looking for Trial Stewards, Van Drivers, and people interested in becoming instructors or assistants. Lenore hotdog@northernsuburbsdogclub.org THE OBJECT OF OUR CLUB: 1.Is to promote, as a community service to the residents of the Northern Suburbs, the training of dogs of any breed and description, to be obedient, companionable and useful in every way. 2.To encourage, assist and instruct members and other interested persons in matters concerning training and/or the working of dogs. 3.To conduct training classes, exhibitions, obedience and agility trials, and to hold such other fixtures as may be permitted by the Canine Association of Western Australia (Inc). 4.To promote public interest in training, working and handling of dogs. 5.To educate and encourage members, breeders, exhibitors and judges to abide by the requirements of the standards as approved by the CAWA (Inc) for the conduct of Obedience and Agility trials. 6.To promote good fellowship and sportsmanship amongst members and those participating in the Club s activities or attending organised fixtures. 7.To make known to members the laws and regulations of the state of Western Australia relevant to the ownership of dogs, their care and also the responsibility of owners for the conduct and actions of their dogs. 8.To foster relations with other clubs having similar aims. 3

Border Collie: Just one. Then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code. Rottweiler: Make me! Lab: Oh, me, me! Pleeease let me change the light bulb! Can I? Huh? Huh? Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp! Malamute: Let the Border Collie do it. You can feed me while he's busy. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares? Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark. Mastiff: Screw it yourself! I'm not afraid of the dark... Doberman: While it's out, I'll just take a nap on the couch. Boxer: Who needs light? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark. Pointer: I see it, there it is, there it is, right there! Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb? Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle... Old English Sheep dog: Light bulb? That thing I just ate was a light bulb? Basset Hound: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Westie: Dogs do not change light bulbs -- people change light bulbs. I am not one of THEM so the question is, how long before I can expect my light again? Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned-out bulb? 4

Hot Dog Topical Mea Culpa.. This Editor owes a great big public apology to Hazel for leaving her off the Thank You function Guest List. Hot Dog Topical Here s hoping a public confession will placate our dearest Hazel. Forgive me please! A woman called the airline customer-service desk asking if she could take her dog on board. Sure, said the clerk, as long as you provide your own kennel. She further explained that the kennel needed to be large enough for the dog to stand up, sit down, turn around, and roll over. The customer was flummoxed: I ll never be able to teach him all of that by tomorrow! Goodbye We are very sad to say goodbye to some of our loved furry friends. Our condolences reach out to Vel and her beloved Sheeza, known for her loving nature and amazing accomplishments. And to Judith who said goodbye to the beautiful River. Our thoughts are for Erik who lost the energetic and well known Guybrush. Our condolences also to Dorothy who lost her beloved Jessie 5

Dances With Dogs Did you hear about the pit bull poodle mix? Not a very good watch dog but a vicious gossip! The Dances With Dogs (DWD) class is held on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm at Carine Open Space. DWD provides the opportunity to learn and practice choreographed routines performed to music. DWD helps handlers to develop a great rapport with their dogs whilst have fun doing it. DWD is suitable for handlers of all ages, and dogs of any breed, size or age. Handlers develop individualised routines to match their dog s strengths and abilities. No two weeks are ever the same. Both dog and handler enjoy varied and stimulating training that helps build a strong partnership. DWD combines elements of heelwork and obedience with innovative and creative movement in time to music to produce routines. 6
