ACTIVITIES Puppy Care 101 There are many responsibilities that come with being a pet owner. Puppies take a lot of specialized care to help them grow into healthy, well-trained pets. Using the tips offered in Puppy Rescue Riddle, design a puppy care guide that lists steps puppy owners need to take to care for their little dogs. Include diagrams and illustrations. ACTIVITIES Zoo Knew? Zoo Camp Puzzle describes the history and purpose of zoos. Research a zoo near where you live. What is its history and purpose? Use the information you gather to write a short report about when your local zoo was created and how it has changed over the years. Select one animal featured in the illustration and create a shoebox zoo habitat for your animal. Based on its location in the rainforest, would your animal need tall trees? Flowers? Water? Open air? Make your animal and the features of your zoo habitat out of construction paper, natural elements (sticks, rocks, leaves), and other found items. Create a sign for your zoo habitat to display on the shoebox that details the name of the animal, where it lives, what it eats, how it avoids predators, and any other interesting facts. Tape together pieces of blue, grey, and black construction paper to form a triptych. Label the blue paper DIURNAL, the grey paper CREPUSCULAR, and the black paper NOCTURNAL. Select a biome, such as the desert, savanna, or temperate forest. Find out what types of animals are active in the day, dusk, and night in this biome. Draw or cut out magazine pictures of animals that live in your selected biome and place them in the appropriate space on your triptych. NGSS: 2-LS4-1 Puzzle Time! Mr. Scott is a very organized person and enjoys helping children learn about animals through puzzles. Pick one of the sections of the Fieldstone Zoo: North America, South America, Africa, Aviary, Reptile House, or Sea Life House. Make a list of the animals that would live in this part of the zoo. Create a booklet and title it Get to Know Animals in Through Puzzles. Make at least three different kinds of puzzles crossword, word scramble, word search, maze, Rebus pictures about the animals in your chosen section to include in your booklet. Zoo Fact Fun Hunt back through the book and read the Zoo Facts sprinkled throughout the story. Pick your favorite Zoo Fact and create a mini poster featuring it. In addition to including the text of the Zoo Fact on your mini poster, draw an illustration of the animal profiled.
