Biosecurity Information Participants must familiarise themselves with the symptoms of Avian Influenza and other notifiable diseases and should take all reasonable steps to minimise the risk of spread of such diseases through adopting pro-active biosecurity measures. Before entering the show, participants must: Not enter if the place of origin of the birds is within an of the UK which is under restrictions relating to notifiable avian disease (including Prevention, Protection and Surveillance zones) Inspect the health of all birds at the place of origin before departure Not move birds if there are any signs, or suspicion of any disease Transport birds in clean solid-bottom and sided carriers Use clean bedding material at the start of the journey, on the date of departure, which must be contained within the carrier at all times. On arrival to the gathering, participants must: Present themselves visibly clean, free from faecal, contamination, feathers, or other bedding matter with unsoiled footwear, or over-boots Ensure their birds remain isolated from all other birds, until each has been inspected by a steward Present each bird for a health inspection before entering the gathering Be prepared to surrender any bird that fails the initial health inspection into isolation for a further examination by a veterinary surgeon, or in the case of suspected Avian Influenza, an APHA veterinary inspector Assist in the clean-up of any spilled bedding (from carriers) immediately by double-bagging and spraying with an approved disinfectant for use against poultry diseases supplied by the poultry gathering organiser At the end of the gathering participants must: Remove all their poultry and carriers from the gathering venue, back to the premises of origin Inspect each bird for signs of ill health, notifying the gathering organiser and/or poultry expert if disease is suspected If disease is suspected, isolate those birds for a veterinary inspection and if Avian Influenza is suspected APHA must be notified immediately (as per the organiser s Contingency Plan) In the case of suspected Avian Influenza, no birds should leave the premises until an APHA veterinary inspector has permitted the removal. Doors open at 7.30 am on Sunday and all exhibits must be penned by 9.15. Any exhibits not penned by 9.15 am may be refused. 2. Birds must not be deliberately mishandled. They may be restrained by the wings or neck but the body weight must be supported when they are carried. 3. Only judges and officials may handle exhibits once penned. 4. The decision of the judges is final except if misrepresentation is discovered. The Show Committee will have sole jurisdiction over objections. Any objections are to be made in writing with a deposit of 5 (returnable if objection upheld). 6. Every reasonable care will be taken of exhibits but the Committee cannot be held responsible for any accident, loss, death or mishap to the exhibits and exhibits will only be accepted on this understanding. Stewards reserve the right to remove birds in distress or showing injury. 7. BWA rosettes, cups and trophies will be awarded to fully paid up members of the BWA only. 8. Should any judges be prevented from fulfilling their engagement the Committee reserves the right to appoint another judge to act. 9. All entries must be accompanied by appropriate fees. 10. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any application for entries to the Show and shall not be required to give any reason for refusal. The decision of the Committee in this regard shall be final. 11. Drinkers will be available. Only containers supplied by the Show will be allowed in the pens during judging. 12. No exhibitors are to approach, or in any way communicate with judges before or during judging. 13. Only birds in the Show, sale or display will be allowed in the Show Hall. 14. No birds will be allowed out of the Hall unless special permission has been obtained from the Show Security Steward. 15. Judges and Stewards may exhibit only in sections they are not judging. 16. Judges and Stewards must wear white coats. 17. All birds will be boxed at 3.30 pm. Release will be asap subject to security clearance. 18. Any bird entered must have been the bona fide property of the exhibitor for one month prior to the Show date and not be subject to an ephemeral purchase. 19. Any bird which has been subjected to cosmetic colouring will be removed from the Show. The BWA reserve the right to exclude any other birds entered by the defaulting exhibitor. 20. A BWA member found guilty of a misdemeanour will automatically be excluded from the Exhibitor of the Year award for two years, forfeit all Championship points and be disqualified from receiving BWA rosettes and awards. 21. Exhibitors accept that they are invited to submit entries to the show and that they have understood and agree to abide by these rules. 22.
