The trunk of the two trees that went down in the far corner of property (behind Ring B) will be removed as soon as possible. Thank goodness no structural damage to the pavilion and clubhouse. The weather held up during the trials on the 15 th & 16 th and lots of titles were earned. Five of Tom Wiley s Rally Beginner students earned the Rally Novice titles. For some this was their very first competition in dog sports. Congrats to everyone that earned legs and/or titles. Bad: We had 2 new judges for the trials. One was excellent (former teacher) and very efficient and fair with scoring. The other judge enjoyed conversing with each exhibitor sometimes before and after their run, thus those classes ran very late! FYI: Popular AKC judges that live nearby are usually under contract as far out as 2 to 3 years in advanced. We try our best to snag some of the good ones but it doesn t always work. Ugly: Set up for the trials was scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 13 th. Several announcements were sent for volunteers. A lot of work has to be done to prepare the facility for competition. Only 3 members showed up to help and they were board members! This is unacceptable! We already pay for non-members to put the mats down and up again after the trials. We host trials twice a year for you even though we usually break even or lose funds. We understand hurricane Matthew threw everyone s home and lives in a spin. However, out of 100+ members, we re sure more than 3 would have been able to help out. During the trials at least 7 volunteers worked both days for 9 hours each day! Continued on page 2 Meetings Board Meeting Nov 10, 7:00 General Meeting Nov 17, 7:30 No training will be allowed on the grounds during the General Meeting. New Members Please welcome our new provisional members: Debra Blizzard with Goldie, an All American Robin Wallen with Blue, a Catahoula 1
President s Message Continued Again, unacceptable! If we have to start paying for workers to assist with trial duties our resources would drain very quickly. We ve gotten away from volunteering at trials even when competing with our dogs. A couple of years ago I competed with two dogs and completed the Trial Secretary duties. It can be done! Recently a new member was informing someone she had met all the provisional membership requirements volunteering and attending general meetings. She was excited having done so. The full member stated you won t have to work again as only provisional members are required to work. Seriously? This club continues only because of the hard work done mostly by full members (Instructors, the Board, Committees, Trial Workers) who care about its future. We know many of you support the club whenever it s possible by volunteering, donating funds and some of you aren t physically healthy enough at this time or live far away. We appreciate all you do when you can. We have gotten a few suggestions and will consider the options. Not looking to start a blog of why s and how s. Something will need to change if we want to continue hosting trials. Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
