Birds indicating symptoms of disease, emaciation, or pendulous crops will be disqualified and sent home. NEW REGULATIONS All poultry exhibitors MUST have a current FSQA/YQCA certification before July 1. No birds under 30 days as of show day are eligible to show in any class. We encourage you to bring your own sawdust. All birds must be worthy of the ribbon. The following regulations pertain to Poultry and Birds of any species including egg, meat, or exotic chickens and turkeys, wild and domestic waterfowl, game birds and exhibition birds of any kind. All birds must have a Pollorum Typhoid negative test no more than 90 days prior to arrival at fair. This must be done by an authorized tester. This Pollorum Typhoid test must be done prior to fair. No testing at fair. For a list of testers, call the Extension Office. 1. All poultry exhibitors MUST wear a 4-H chevron pinned or sewn on a white blouse, shirt or T-shirt while showing at the fair. FFA members should wear appropriate FFA attire. Pants of appropriate attire in either blue or black will be worn, with no holes, tears, low riders, cut offs, or shorts allowed. Special consideration may be shown for conflicting attire during shows occurring at the same time or shows requiring special attire. 2. Only poultry hatches are eligible to enter the market poultry classes. 3. Entries in market poultry classes will be judged according to the USDA Production and Marketing Standards of Quality for live poultry. The factors will be health, feathering, conformation (breast, back, legs, and thighs) fleshing and fat covering. 4. Entries in the production poultry classes will be judged on the basis of uniformity, 46

maturity, development (handling, qualities, pigmentation, molt) and general conformation to breed characteristics. 5. Each exhibitor is limited to one pen per class in Chick Growing, Laying Flock, Market Birds, and other poultry divisions. A pen consists of two birds of the same sex. Birds will be weighed at the fair. Overweight and underweight birds will be put into proper classes. 6. All decisions of the judges are final. 7. In the exotic classes, exhibitors may enter only one bird per breed in each class. The number of entries in each class is unlimited as long as each bird is a different breed. 8. In the showbird classes, exhibitors may bring one male and one female bird of each breed in each class. The number of entries in each class is unlimited as long as each bird is a different breed. 9. Only market birds and hobbyist showbirds may be de-beaked, de-winged and detoed. 10. Exhibitors are responsible for providing daily food and water to birds. 11. Only Champion or Reserve Champion meat birds, ducks, turkeys and geese are allowed in the livestock sale. NO entries on chick growing and laying flock are allowed. 12. It is recommended that all birds exhibited be sold after release from the show and not returned to the flock. (Check health requirement.) 13. All meat birds for meat growing classes must be hatched during the current year. 14. Best of Show Exhibitor must be present during judging of class. Poultry Showmanship Everyone will compete for showmanship. Exhibitors must show their own animals. Showmanship criteria includes: - general conduct of exhibitor - appearance of exhibitor (4-H chevron required) - grooming and presentation of animal - attitude of exhibitor (helpfulness to judge and others) - cleanliness of cage/carrier - knowledge of poultry raising Once you win showmanship in your age division, you cannot win again in your age division or move up to the next age division until you are at the correct grade level to move up.
