Through this type of ownership, the junior exhibitor(s) are to care for, groom, and select any and all birds to be used in exhibitions as well as actively participate in any decision making process for the flock. 1

FEED & BEDDING The Ohio State Fair will furnish coops, bedding(straw), water, feed and cups. Shavings must be purchased by exhibitor. The Barn crew will feed once each day and will water all birds as needed. All Waterfowl and Turkey exhibitors should provide a large water container for each exhibit. The container should be secured so as not to spill. Exhibitors may care for their own animals if they wish. However, please notify the Poultry Department staff of your intention to do so. BREEDING POULTRY RULES No birds will be allowed outside of the Poultry Barn on show days. If any birds are found outside of the barn on show days they will not be allowed to show. 1. Junior Exhibitors must show their own animals. Exceptions will be made only for exhibitors who may be physically impaired, who have two animals entered in the same class, or an exhibitor absent on show day due to other commitments. In case of these exceptions another boy or girl who is eligible to be an Ohio Junior Division Exhibitor may exhibit the animal with the authorization of the department director. If a Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitor cannot be present at the time of judging the exhibitor will need to present to the department director a written permission notice signed by the football coach, band director or any other person in charge of an activity that is in conflict and prevents the exhibitor from being present at the time of judging. This notice must be on official letterhead of the organization and given to the department director 24 hours before show day and must include name, county, birthdate, home phone number, and complete address of the exhibitor's, home and work of the person in charge of the event (i.e. football coach, band director, etc.) Also include a brief description of the conflict. 2. All exhibitors must be either a 4-H or FFA current member in order to show in the Ohio State Fair Junior Poultry Show. 3. American Standard of Perfection will be the guide for judging breeding stock. 4. Breeding class entries are single birds, no pairs. 8. All poultry must be free of evidence of contagious or infectious disease. Please bring in your 9-2 or 9-3 or test paperwork or NPIP. 9. On judging day all Junior exhibitors must be present. The Junior exhibitors will be assisted by contract employees of the Ohio State Fair or other Junior Fair exhibitors. No other people besides the Junior exhibitors and fair staff will be allowed in the cage area or around the judging during the show. 10. All birds must be gone by 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 5. No exception. Ohio State Fair gates will close at 7:00 p.m.,sunday, August 5. Definition of Terms Used The fowls will be hatched as follows: Cock, a male over one year of age; Cockerel, a male under one year of age; Hen, a female over one year of age; Pullet, a female under one year of age. YOUTH RESERVE PROGRAM 2018 Junior Breeding Poultry Each junior fair breeding poultry division champion will receive $250 and each division reserve champion will receive $150 from the Youth Reserve Program. There are 3 division champions and 3 division reserve champions for a total of $1,200 being paid to junior exhibitors. 2018 Junior Breeding Turkeys Junior fair breeding turkey champion will receive $400 and reserve champion will receive $300 from the Youth Reserve Program for a total of $700 being paid to junior exhibitors. Premiums Birds in each class will be placed on a 1-2-3-4 basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical placing. 1st - $6; 2nd - $5; 3rd - $4; 4th - $3 Division Champions and Reserve Champions will receive a rosette. 5. All birds must be owned by the exhibitor by June 1 and be a part of his or her individual project. 6. Exhibitors may make two (2) entries in each class, with the exception of the Market Pen Class where only one (1) entry may be made. 7. All birds must be entered in the proper class to be eligible for a premium. 2

SECTION 703 MARKET CHICKENS RULES 1. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market Pen must sell at the Sale of Champions on Sunday, August, 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Celeste Center. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his animal until the animal is released. No other entries will be sold at the fair. 2. Exhibitors may make only one (1) entry in Market Pen Class. 3. Exhibitors must show NPIP hatchery papers, at check-in. 4. All birds must be owned by the exhibitor by July 1 and must be part of the his/her individual project. 5. Exhibitors are required to check-in four (4) birds and show three (3). 6. Only the four birds banded at check-in will be eligible to compete in the show. Exhibitors must bring only four birds to the weigh station at the same time. 7. Market Birds will be penned by the superintendents in charge. 8. Handling of birds by anyone (other than the exhibitor) after they are penned is strictly prohibited, except with the permission of the Poultry Management. 9. Market birds will show in the order determined by the Poultry Management and divided into a minimum of 10 per class. The show order will be posted by 8:30 p.m., after weigh-in. 10. Entries in market class may be any type market chicken cockerel. These birds may be de-beaked, detoed, dubbed or subjected to any practice generally accepted in the commercial production of meat type poultry. 12. OUTSTANDING POULTRY MARKET EXHIBITOR A total of $1,700 will be distributed to Outstanding Poultry Exhibitors, (market chickens and market turkey), with first place receiving $500; second place receiving $300; and third place receiving $200 and 4th thru 10th place each receiving $100. You will not need to preregister for the Outstanding Poultry Market Exhibitor Program. 11. Maximum total weight for each bird is seven (7) pounds, for a maximum total pen weight of 28 pounds. Provided that the total pen weight is 28 pounds or less, that overweight bird cannot be included in the pen of 3 considered for Grand and Reserve Grand Champion. If two or more birds are overweight, then that pen will be considered overweight as there will not be pen of 3 birds of eligible weight. POULTRY SALE FORMAT Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market Pen of Chickens and Grand Champion Market Turkey will sell in the Sale of Champions, on Sunday, August 5, 2:00 p.m. The animals sold in the 2018 Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions will have a top dollar cap as follows: Grand Champion Market Chickens...$6,000 Reserve Grand Champion Market Chickens...$4,000 Grand Champion Market Turkey...$3,000 Twenty-five percent (25%), or amount over cap listed above, whichever is greater, will be distributed among other youth exhibitors. These funds will go towards scholarships, Outstanding Market Exhibitor Program, showmanship, skillathons, breeding livestock, FFA, 4-H, Ohio State Fair Band and Choir, and endowments. SECTION 704 MARKET TURKEYS RULES 1. Grand Champion Market Turkey must sell at the Sale of Champions, on Sunday, August, 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Celeste Center. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his animal until the animal is released. No other entries will be sold at the fair. 9. Market Tom Turkeys will show in order determined by the Poultry Management. The show order will be posted after check-in. 10. Entries in Market Turkey Class may be any type of Commercial Tom Turkey. Turkeys may be de-beaked, de-toed, or subjected to any practice generally accepted in the commercial production of meat type turkeys. 11. All birds must be owned by the exhibitor by April 1 and must be a part of his/her individual project. 5. Market Tom Turkeys must be banded for identification immediately upon arrival at the Fair. There is no weight limit. 6. Market Tom Turkeys will be penned by the Superintendents in charge. 7. All Market Turkeys must be cane trained. 8. Handling of birds by anyone (other than the exhibitor) after they are penned is strictly prohibited, except with the permission of the Poultry Management. 7

DIVISION 999 POULTRY SKILLATHON Wednesday, August 1, 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Poultry and Rabbit Barn All junior fair skillathon age champions (9 through 18) will receive money from the Youth Reserve Program. This amount varies from year to year and will be announced during each skillathon award ceremony. Each age winner and the overall skillathon champion in all nine (9) skillathons will receive an award sponsored by The Ohio 4-H and FFA Foundations. SPECIAL SHOWMANSHIP AWARDS Each Market Chicken showmanship winner will receive a trophy sponsored by the Ohio Poultry Association. ENTRY INFORMATION Junior entry blank requires specific signatures: exhibitor, parent and either a County Extension Professional or FFA advisor. Indicate clearly if the entry is 4-H, or FFA. Complete animal information as required and animal count/breed information as requested on the entry blank. Entry due date of June 20 means the entry blank and payment must be postmarked by this date. Metered mail is not acceptable. You may use your credit card to pay for your entry fees. Checks should be made payable to: Ohio State Fair. It's permissible to pay for multiple family members with only one check, provided all entries are sent in the same envelope. ONLINE ENTRY INFORMATION You may enter online at www.ohiostatefair.com. Exhibitors should keep their exact login information (username/password). LATE ENTRY (June 21-July 20) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If wanting to enter both Junior and Open, then it would be $50.00 for each area, plus the animal entry fee. Any entry made July 21 and after will be charged $75.00 per exhibitor, per species and per animal charge. TICKET INFORMATION Junior Fair exhibitors are provided a ticket for each day they are required to participate as a Junior Fair exhibitor. These tickets are colored coded. Junior Fair Exhibitors may not purchase parking permits! Tickets, for family member use, are available throughout the fair: $28.00-6 day punch ticket (multi person use - example: 3 people, 2 admissions ) $6.00 - one day ticket (one individual use) Each Breeding Poultry showmanship winner will receive a trophy sponsored by Meyer Hatchery.
