Rancho Terra Norte AHBA Herding Dog Ranch (HRD) Mixed (Sheep & Goats) Course Description Judge: Ted Ondrak, September 29, 2016 There are 15 sheep and 6 goats out on the A course Arena. 5 of the sheep have black collars, 5 have blue collars and 5 are unmarked. 3 of the goats will have collars, 3 will be unmarked. The handler and dog enter the arena through the southeast gate and proceeds to the post in front of the holding pens. 1. Gather I: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) Sheep and goats are gathered from the A course arena. a. H1 may position dog half way between stock and the post, handler then may approach within 15 ft of the closest stock. b. H2 dog is positioned at the post and handler may move half the distance to the closest stock. c. H3 dog and handler are positioned at the post, handler must remain at the post until the stock is gathered and fetched to handler. 2. Sort I: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) Handler must sort goats and sheep into the holding pens. a. H1 will sort any 3 goats into the first two pens and any 5 sheep into the next 3 pens. b. H2 will sort goats into marked and unmarked, and then sort 5 sheep each with collars into 2 pens and a pen of unmarked sheep. c. H3 will sort goats into marked and unmarked, then sheep into 3 pens with the same colored collars & unmarked sheep. Once the sort is completed, the handler and dog leave the A course arena through the southwest gate and enter the alleyway. The handler un-pens both sets of goats and releases them into the HT arena. 3. Fetch/Drive I: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) Goats are taken through the HT arena to the southeast gate and into the lane to the free standing pen. 4. Obstacle 1 Free Standing Pen: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) Goats are placed in the free standing pen. Handler returns to the alleyway and unpens 2 sets of sheep from the pens and releases them into the HT arena. H1 releases pen 3 and 4, H2 releases pens with marked sheep, H3 releases one marked and one unmarked set. 5. Controlled Access/gates: 10 points - Sheep are collected and taken to the Southeast gate. a. H1 and H2 takes sheep through the pass gate into the PT arena, then proceeds to the PT holding pen. b. H3 takes sheep out the South east gate and moves sheep along the Lane on the outside of the PT fence, then enters the PT arena from the southeast gate and proceeds to the PT holding pen. 6. Sort 2: 10 Points - 5 head of sheep are sorted into the PT holding pen a. H1 any 5 sheep b. H2 5 any one color collar c. H3 5 unmarked sheep 7. Fetch/drive 2: 10 points - Remaining 5 sheep are moved along with west fence of the PT arena, through the panels in the northwest corner and around to the panel on the northeast corner and down the east fence to the hold exam pen. a. H1 can walk with sheep, but may not go behind panels. b. H2 can walk with sheep, but must remain behind H2 line (2/3 of arena) and parallel drive the sheep across the back of the arena. c. H3 remains behind the H3 line (1/3 of arena). 8. H3 only Special Task: 10 points (H3 only) After clearing the east panel, sheep are taken to the Hold/exam pen. Once sheep are in the pen, handler is free to approach. Handler needs to catch and hold a designated sheep. 9. Obstacle 3/Free standing Y: 10 points - Sheep are taken around a barrel in a counter clockwise direction and then through a Freestanding Y on the centerline of the arena. a. H1 may walk with the sheep, but may not enter the obstacle. b. H2 may walk with sheep to the barrel, but may not proceed further until the sheep have entered the Y. c. H3 stays at the hold pen until the sheep have cleared the Free standing Y. The 5 sheep in the PT holding pen are un-penned and all 10 sheep are taken back to the HT Arena through the pass-gate. Goats are un-penned from free-standing pen and taken to the HT Arena. 10. Gather 2/Fetch/Drive : 10 points (H1, H2, H3) - sheep and goats are gathered and taken through the alleyway back into the A course and the last set of 5 sheep in the A course holding pens are released. Time ends when the handler and dog exit the A course arena through the Southeast gate. Tie Breakers Best score on #7, then best score on #2

Rancho Terra Norte AHBA Herding Dog Ranch (HRD) Sheep Course Description Judge: Ted Ondrak, September 29, 2016 There are 15 sheep out in the Duck Arena. 5 of the sheep have black collars, 5 have blue collars and 5 are unmarked. The handler and dog enter the arena through the west walk gate to the post just inside the gate. 1. Gather: 10 points (H1, H2,H3) Sheep are gathered from the Duck arena and brought counter clockwise around the post and taken to the Northeast walk gate. a. H1 may position dog half way between stock and the post, handler then may approach within 15 ft of the closest stock. b. H2 dog is positioned at the post and handler may move half the distance to the closest stock. c. H3 dog and handler are positioned at the post, handler must remain at the post until the stock is gathered and fetched to handler. 2. Fetch /Drive: 10 points (H1,H2,H3) sheep are led through the gate and taken up to the corral and through the north gate. If the sheep escape to the barn, there will not be additional attempts allowed. 5. H3 only Special Task: 10 points sheep are taken to the shedding ring where they are allowed to settle, handler touches the head of designated sheep. 6. Fetch/Drive: 10 points (H1,H2,H3) sheep are taken back to the north gate of the corral.. If sheep escape to the barn, no additional attempts allowed. 7. Unpen: 10 points (H1,H2,H3) - Handler and dog un-pens the sheep from the barn and exhaust them out into the B course 8. Fetch/Drive: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) Sheep are moved from the barn area, along the fence (within 12 feet) to the duck area. 9. Re-pen: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) sheep are exhausted into the duck arena using the north walk gate. Care should be given to orderly movement of stock through the narrow gateway. Time ends when the duck arena gate closes. Tie Breakers Best score on #4, then best score on #1 3. Sort 1: 10 points (H1, H2, H3) 5 sheep are sorted into the large pen and the smaller stall. a. H1 will sort any 5 sheep into each enclosure, leaving 5 head in the corral. b. H2 will sort 5 sheep either with collars or unmarked into 1 pen and collared sheep in the other, leaving either collared or unmarked in the corral. c. H3 will sort 5 sheep with same color collars into 1 pen and either sheep with same color collar or unmarked into the other pen, leaving either same colored collared or unmarked in the corral. 4. Fetch/Drive & Obstacles 1 and 2: 20 points 5 sheep are taken from the corral through the east drive panels, across and through the west drive panels to the water tanks on the west fence (by the walk gate). a. H1 may walk with the sheep through the obstacles b. H2 may walk with the sheep, but must remain behind the H2 line and parallel drive the sheep through the panels, rejoining them after the completion of the west drive panel. c. H3 stays at the H3 line until the sheep have exited the west drive gates. The handler may approach the shedding ring.

RTN HTADsd Course 5 Take pen, gate sort on sheep/shed on ducks 1. Take 5 head of stock from the take pen in the corner of the arena. In all three classes, the lead is removed before the handler opens the take-pen gate. a. For exiting the stock, HTAD III handlers may not enter the pen. b. For HTAD II, handlers may enter the pen with the dog but should not move the stock themselves. c. For HTAD I, the handler may assist the dog in moving the stock. A heavy penalty shall be assessed for the handler going in the take pen alone (i.e., without using the dog) or for taking the dog in on lead. If the stock come out on their own volition without the handler or dog entering, there is no penalty 2. Proceed up the long end of the arena through the Y chute a. H1 may fetch or drive up to the Y b. H2 may fetch to the handler line 3. Turn right from the Y and fetch/drive stock across the arena to the breeze way panel, move sheep through breeze way. 4. Proceed to the free standing pen in the SE corner of the arena, pen the stock 5. Remove from the pen hold in an area in front of the pen, H1 & H2 show a hold 6. Ducks only: H3 shed ducks. 7. Proceed to #4 on the east fence, turn left and take stock through the cross drive panels from east to west. 8. Sheep only: H3 takes stock to empty holding pen and gate sorts the 2 sheep with collars 9. Repen stock. First tie breaker on #3, second tie breaker on #4

AGREEMENT In consideration for participation in an event sanctioned by the American Herding Breed Association (AHBA) and held at Rancho Terra Norte home of Val Manning and Doug Richardson, I (we) agree to assume all responsibility for any claim, loss or damage, of whatever kind or nature, whether to person or property, which may be caused at or near this event, either directly or indirectly, by me (us) or the dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event. I (we) further agree that I (we) will hold the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents and members and Val Manning and Doug Richardson, and their employees/help working this event, harmless and defend them from any and all liability for any injury, claim, damage or loss, of whatever kind or nature, whether to person or property, caused at or near this event. I (we) agree to indemnify the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents or members and Val Manning and Doug Richardson, and associated persons, for any loss, cost or expenses, including attorney fees and costs, to which the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents or members and Val Manning and Doug Richardson, and associated persons might be subject as a result of any claim, suit, loss or damage caused in any way by any act or negligence on my (our) part or on the part of any dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event. I (we) acknowledge that while the AHBA may provide sanctioning for this event with regard to the issuing of titles, it and Val Manning and Doug Richardson, and associated persons do not have and do not exercise control over the conduct of those present. I (we) certify and represent that the dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event is/are not a hazard to other dogs, other animals, or to people. I (we) will pay for any livestock injuries or replacement value in the event of death of any livestock by my (our) dog(s). In case of any injury to any stock caused by the dog(s) entered or said dog(s) actions thereof, I (we) will assume total responsibility for any damage. I (we) agree to pay the full market value, as set forth and noted in this event's premium, of the injured animal in case of serious injury, or the veterinarian bill or its equivalent if the injury is slight. AGREEMENT In consideration for participation in an event sanctioned by the American Herding Breed Association (AHBA) and held at Tim & Pat Taylor's, I (we) agree to assume all responsibility for any claim, loss or damage, of whatever kind or nature, whether to person or property, which may be caused at or near this event, either directly or indirectly, by me (us) or the dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event. I (we) further agree that I (we) will hold the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents and members and Tim & Pat Taylor and their employees/help working this event,, harmless and defend them from any and all liability for any injury, claim, damage or loss, of whatever kind or nature, whether to person or property, caused at or near this event. I (we) agree to indemnify the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents or members and Tim & Pat Taylor and associated persons, for any loss, cost or expenses, including attorney fees and costs, to which the AHBA, its officers, directors, agents or members and Tim & Pat Taylor and associated persons might be subject as a result of any claim, suit, loss or damage caused in any way by any act or negligence on my (our) part or on the part of any dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event. I (we) acknowledge that while the AHBA may provide sanctioning for this event with regard to the issuing of titles, it and Tim & Pat Taylor and associated persons do not have and do not exercise control over the conduct of those present. I (we) certify and represent that the dog(s) I (we) have entered in or brought to this event is/are not a hazard to other dogs, other animals, or to people. I (we) will pay for any livestock injuries or replacement value in the event of death of any livestock by my (our) dog(s). In case of any injury to any stock caused by the dog(s) entered or said dog(s) actions thereof, I (we) will assume total responsibility for any damage. I (we) agree to pay the full market value, as set forth and noted in this event's premium, of the injured animal in case of serious injury, or the veterinarian bill or its equivalent if the injury is slight.
